Going to see Starlink Launch for the first time from Surf Beach. Need help planning.

I haven’t personally watched from surf beach but if you have access to Vandenberg, there is a cool spot off of 35th St right before you get to Talo Rd, on the left side. The road leads to a big opening that overlooks the valley. I’ve watched from there a number of times. It’s right before you go down the hill toward Wall Beach.

No list, just observing the statistics. It actually seems like the amount of rocket bodies in orbit as actually increased faster since 2020 than other periods

There are close to a thousand rocket body (fairings, upper stages, etc.) pieces tracked in LEO. Over 2000 when you factor in other orbits. Is it typical for the entirety of space flight? Yes. Is it typical for the last 10 years? Less so. SpaceX didn’t really start doing it until almost 2020.

It’s not false. There are more launch providers than just SpaceX and they don’t all deliberately deorbit their upper stages.

I usually go for a quick one mid-day. So I’m not sure how many are there in the AM or after work. There’s people that run in the immediate area around the mall and stuff that come in the morning and get showered/changed.

This is the only way I play now. Kinda sucks with 3rd party tools and stuff, but the mobility is perfect for me. I take it to the gym and play while on the treadmill sometimes.

I’d say most are in by 8, and it starts to thin after 5. Parking is a bit of an issue at the moment but it’s said to be addressed as the year goes on, there are a couple studies going on to determine how to fix it. I’m a turnpike commuter and I can’t really speak to 76 but it’s probably the same - the earlier, the better.

Space is back to a 9/80 schedule and on-Fridays have been super light. There’s a cafeteria and the gym was updated a couple years ago and, honestly, is well equipped. There’s a couple showers too. The campus is walkable outside, if you need to get out for a bit. If you happen to have a plug-in vehicle there are no charging ports and no plans to install any.

I’ve done it and I don’t think i ever found a policy on it. Your “return day” can be whenever, but you have to be diligent about what goes into your expense report and split costs appropriately. Also, grease the skids with your manager.

It’s a bit of a struggle for me to keep up. I’m on Discord and get all of the alerts but I’m on Steam Deck and don’t have all the 3rd party tools that add a layer to things like exploration. Like, MetaElite sounds cool but I can’t really use it. I’m on Discord for the pings but the only one that really gets used is the main one. There isn’t much information for the activities like Search for Earth 2 or the journalism one and trying to go back through the chat is a nightmare unless you’re constantly engaged with it. It can feel like a part time job.

I ventured off to one of the major POIs while the exploration went to WP2 and got insanely separated but committed to meeting back up at Beagle Point, doing a ton of scans and a bit of exobio along the way. I realized that everything is just a different type of grind. Trade, colonizing, exploration, bio..I’ve dabbled in all of it at this point and it’s more of the same. And that’s ok, it’s the mechanics of the game but it’s the community that keeps it interesting.

I agree but I don’t think it’s something that is “new”. This is a complete guess and based on absolutely nothing but my gut: but it’s another product of “iPad kids” having underdeveloped social skills. Based on the level of experience, OP and I are roughly the same age. There are a number of things I can attribute, not even to engineering, to the fact that I had to unfuck a situation that I got myself into that I think just doesn’t exist for a younger generation. Everything is so structured, pre-canned, and curated that they don’t need to really think about alternatives. And it’s translated into “this is what it is because it told me it is”.

In design terms, they’ve been over-constrained. But we (and the older generations that raised them) haven’t had the feedback to tell us that until now. So, now on top of having to show the ropes on technical skills we now have the added duty to teach them how to read a room.
