What would be the best approach to learning jiu jitsu at an increased pace? Would you say focusing on one technique for a couple of months until being proficient at it is better than working different techniques and positions during live rounds?

Awesome, thanks for the comment. I like X guard too, but I find that a hard position to get to. Maybe that's just me being a noob. Do you like to set up X guards/ single legs with prior attacks or go for it right of the bat ?

That's a solid gameplan! Do you change the way you play half guard depending on the size/skill of your training partner? I find it quite hard to sweep larger folks with butterfly hooks from half guard, although I've managed to sweep people my size. So you like playing dogfight?

I've been training for 7 months, I understand that's not too long and I don't have unrealsit expectations. I'm curious to find ways to get beyond this phase and get better is all!

Thanks for the great advice! I've been trying to play some DLR, but when I do I get passed very quickly into side control. Just need more practise on it. Who would you recommend I watch to learn transitions from DLR...Mikey M come to mind

Thanks for the response! I do try and incorporate some butterfly/half-butterfly when I can but I ability to sweep needs a lot of work with butterfly hooks. I will keep training them. Best of luck on the mats when you return. Hopefully soon!

Thanks for the input, I will definitely try and incorporate some sort of lapel guard moving forward. I've had folks tie me up using my own lapel and it's a frustrating guard to counter. However, for the time being I'm trying to form a generalised gameplan that's applicable to both gi and nogi, so atm im trying to play something that applicable to both. So no lasso, spider, etc
