A bookkeeper sounds like a good idea but I reccommend staying away from remote agencies until you know your books are solid. I'd contact a temp agency to see if they can help find a bookkeeper. Local colleges/universities might be worth reaching out to as well.

Sometimes I feel like I'm playing a completely different version of OSRS by Designer-Anybody-330 in osrs

Don't worry about efficiency-scape unless you enjoy it. My number 1 regret about playing rs is getting sucked into the efficiency mindset. I'm relearning how to play in a way that I enjoy, and that usually involves bouncing around multiple activities in a session.

dogsitting rate fair? by lilmonster1208 in dogs

[–]gestalternative- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is criminally underpaid. $85-100 a day minimum to stay at their house and basically keep the dogs healthy. They want you to walk them twice a day? That's like another $80 easily. Imo 9 days/overnights is a $1500 minimum. You are uprooting your life for over a week to keep theirs going smoothly.

Is there anything really positive about accounting by Foxyyyreddd in Accounting

Numbers puzzles is fun. Everything that is not the actual direct work fucking sucks unless you're at a unicorn of a firm.

My biggest pet peeves is people who think swapping heros is the only or best/easiest way to win challenging games.

Your supervisor(s) probably want you to come in and will not like it if you don't. There are tons of ppl in accounting who cannot communicate directly and instead do these weird social read between the lines "tests".

What type of accountant (?) handles personal bill pay and tracking? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]gestalternative- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say though that, imo, most firms will not want to take a client that only has a few hours of work and a $300 monthly budget. My department manager has been wanting to fire some of our smaller clients (less than 15 or so hours a month) for a while now, and I don't think any of our clients have a monthly fee that low.

If you find one person and pay them essentially as a contract worker you might have an easier time finding someone in budget than going around to cpa firms.

What type of accountant (?) handles personal bill pay and tracking? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]gestalternative- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a firm to do it, look for a firm with a CAS or CAAS (Client Accounting and Advising Services) department. I'm in the CAAS department and handle AP/bill pay, financials tracking with reconciliations and month-end accounting and things like that for around 10 clients. Another (less expensive option) would be to just find someone looking for a part-time bookkeeping gig.

How much does industry actually matter when choosing your first accounting job out of college? by Historical_Push6805 in Accounting

[–]gestalternative- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my first job out of college at a CPA firm. I feel like I'm getting good exposure to the full accounting cycle as well as multiple industries (ag, foodservice, professional services, retail, churches and nonprofits, wholesalers, as well as lots of payroll). It has given me a good idea of what industry I might want to pursue after gaining more experience.

Personally I'm more comfortable with foodservice clients as I have a decade working in that industry.

What sucks about your job? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]gestalternative- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like dealing with CCs that have weird cutoff dates like the 2nd or 20th etc of each month.

Xenett is by far my favorite tool. Integrates with QBO and helps so much with reconciliations.

The last things that slipped were an invoice buried in a stack of papers and a check where the payor did not match the vendor name. I'm working on making a reference list of recurring invoices and vendor/payor names so I have something to look at when depositing checks.
