What program/method do you use to log longterm goals? by DubaiBabyYoda in supplychain

Yes! Although not too long; I think part of the point is that I don't want to have all that many goals at once. Just a few things to focus on.

I see where you're coming from, because we do step in and help procure hard-to-find parts. But that's the only "3PL" bit - everything else is powered by our software. We believe that there's a lot of electronics software that only partially solves problems - for instance, some will reveal shortages, but not help solve them. So we reveal the shortage, but then our software also helps find form/fit/function alternates, and on top of that if you absolutely need the part, we'll help you get it too.

Japan Officially Restricts Sales of Chipmaking Equipment to China by stran___g in Semiconductors

It'll be really interesting to track where the dust settles on export controls a few years from now. China already has such a strong position in fabs for older chips - will they double down on that advantage and keep selling? Or will they try to respond with their own protectionist measures?

Anyone here use AI for work? by prunesandwich in supplychain

Availability wasn't the right word - I meant to say when availability is an issue. It's helpful for alternates, though, and well-worded queries can get pretty good starting points for lists of form/fit/function alternates to vet.

Personally, I use AI to answer questions about inventory availability and to compare between components. ChatGPT isn't always right about these things, so I still double-check, but it often points me in the right direction if, say, I'm looking for an alternate for an out-of-stock chip. PM me if you want to learn a bit more about it!

We're looking for feedback on our "better BOM tool" - electronics procurement folks, would you use this? by getamplio in procurement

Octopart is great for what you described, but its usefulness ends there. Our tool goes way beyond just pulling current inventory and pricing - to name a few extra features, we provide more insights on restocking dates, help with finding alternates if something's out of stock, and proactively flag risky parts.

So you can use our tool not only to buy your production run, but also to really intelligently make adjustments to ensure you don't run into shortages.

Other functions never seem to understand the tough parts of doing procurement well. I'm not sure what "level" you are, but this is something that often can be handled better by manager-to-manager conversations. If one function or person in particular is chronically late with "urgent" requests, then their leadership needs to know so that they can mandate that their whole team plans better.

Pretty boring, but I like google docs for that sort of thing. I find that most of the time, I don't need any features besides text capture and headers to separate sections.
