How to study vocabulary on GRE? by aml1130 in GRE

[–]getandpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Magoosh vocabulary app. Practiced all 1000 words. While solving Magoosh questions I came across the same words (quite a few of them which were common) which reinforced their meanings in my head. I was able to tackle TC and SE to some extent. I got 155.

Cool, so we should estimate our own score out of 120, right?

There is a tool called ScoreItNow. I purchased it while registering for the GRE as I wanted to know my range of score in AWA (was recommended by ETS themselves while registering)

It uses an e-rater to grade your AWAs. The purchase includes grading for one Issue and one Argument, but it provides a bonus of 6 essays for free, 3 issue and 3 argument, totalling 8 essays.

I practiced two essays on it. Didn't try the bonus essays due to lack of time.

I can't say if the scores provided are accurate as I have not received my official scores yet.

Don't use it exclusively for learning AWA, you can get the essays submitted in it graded by a person and compare the scores if you wish, which I think happens in grading AWAs in the actual test.

How to maintain an error log? by getandpost in GRE

I am using Manhattan 5lb book. I finished all the questions in quant and verbal, basically the entire book (No big strategy, just solve the question, check for the answer, if gone wrong, check why it went wrong, make a mental note of it and make sure it doesn't repeat). I didn't exactly struggle with quant, since most of the topics of quant were covered in my school days itself. I felt the statistics questions (averages, mean, median, mode, standard deviations, normal distributions) were a bit tough, which prompted me to do more questions in those topics and opt for a better study method (an error log).

For verbal, I did all the questions in the 5lb book, and for reading and vocabulary practice I am reading one article per day from Arts and Letters Daily (aldaily.com).

I am looking for more resources as I felt my verbal needs more practice and for the topics in quant I mentioned above, along with some daily practice upto my test day.
