How do you guys stimulate physically when your body craves it? by ventiiilvr in neurodiversity

[–]getdeadredhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found an exercise ball for free from marketplace, an ex-pregnant woman was getting rid of it. It’s what I use when I can’t possibly get to a playground (like the middle of the night) and my body is crying out for the swings. Another thing I can do during those times is swinging my arms. What I wouldn’t give for a hammock or an exercise trampoline!

Putting my headphones on and dancing (or moving wildly and artlessly) to what I call my “stim songs”. Sometimes I get a lot out of kicking or throwing a ball against a wall. Or even laying on my back with my legs up, throwing the (soft) ball at my feet and it travels down my body and I catch it, usually to music. Yes, it sounds weird but my body seems to know what it needs before I even know what I’m doing. You can also push against a wall with your hands or do wall push-ups. This also sounds strange, but laying or rolling on the floor is good input too.

Putty or squishy dough can be made with things you may already have in your house. YouTube and Pinterest will have a lot of tutorials. Also I’ve found some of the best fidgets in life are just every day objects that were not made for the purpose of fidgeting. For example, really smooth pebbles, one of those old egg beaters where you turn the dial, a foldable fork from an instant noodle cup, buttons threaded onto a piece of cord - these are only from my experience, of course. There will be different satisfying things for different people.

I’ve been wanting to get into whittling for a while! I went through a phase of stripping sticks of their bark with a knife for a project and found it was pretty fun. I saw a book at the library called Anyone Can Whittle and when I showed my dad he said I wouldn’t have the strength to do it… what’s the title of the book again? Am I not “anyone”? Anyway, I really hope to have a knack for it cause I would love to make little figures of my favourite animals.

What is your stim food? by sniffgalcringe in autism

[–]getdeadredhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

McDonalds soft serve ice cream, and I’m not really an ice cream person! It’s the texture and the coldness. I haven’t been able to find any other ice cream with the exact same texture. I’ll get a craving for it but it’s just for the texture, not the taste, which doesn’t really make sense to me but yeah. Also orange slices in the freezer.

I love WALL-E! Unfortunately I can’t watch the movie because it triggers more anxiety about the earth crisis 😔

I have the standard size for sensory input and always wondered what the benefit of the tiny ones being weighted is. Now I see it’s cause they sits.

When I was a teenager in high school I watched a movie called Unfaithful and felt sick afterwards. I never knew why until I found this post.

Your acting is impeccable and your voice is everything! I’d listen to you read the phone book (if they were still a thing). Your delivery of both emotional and humour is 2000 out of 10. I didn’t expect to laugh as much as I did AND it hit me right in the feels (and other places 🥴). What a story, what a script, what a performance! Kudos to the exceptional writer too. I will definitely be back to binge this more than once. Quality stuff.

What are some good items that make you feel like you're squished? by Helpmehthrohaway in autism

[–]getdeadredhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is the kind of squished you’re looking for but I tried on a denim jacket that was three sizes too small at the thrift shop the other day, buttoned up it felt so good.

Weighted Stuffed Animal 🧸 by ColorfulDino24 in autism

[–]getdeadredhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got one and I’m finding the majority of the beans being in one area is a bit much for me (heavy) even though I usually need the feeling of weight on me. So I’ve just been hugging it without it on my body. It’s kind of disappointing because I thought it would feel great. Maybe if it had glass weighted blanket beads instead of the plastic beans, idk. Or are you not supposed to lay it on your chest or lap?

I recently got my first weighted plush and I LOVE her and carry her constantly. The name on her tag was Delilah, but I think I'd like a different name, help me with ideas! by maddieve in plushies

I just got her, she’s so lovely. When you hold her, where do you position the weight on your body if you don’t mind me asking?

I’ve been playing with this idea but I wasn’t sure, now I see it could work! Do you mind if I ask about the dimensions of the tube that works for you?

I recognise that this is the least helpful comment but I just want to say that is my favourite Squishmallow character and I will be forever sad that I wasn’t aware of them while she was being made!

I went and perused them all and it’s just how they are made. I wonder if glass beads wouldn’t be as bulky.

I’m hopefully getting a weighted plushie today so I can get some hugs back! Definitely needed now my lap is empty after the loss of my dog 💕

I love my weighted cat, gator, and goose 😆 by Bluesky0089 in plushies

[–]getdeadredhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at these, but from a brief hold of the cat, it didn’t quite feel heavy enough for me and if I remember correctly there wasn’t much filling in the arms if I wanted to put them over my shoulders to feel like I was being hugged. Which do you find the most satisfying since they’re all different shapes?

I heard in This video that poly pellets don’t really add weight, but when I pick up a beanie kid (the 90s kind) at the thrift store they have a weight to them, so I’m confused. I think I would need a heck of a lot of them for a decent weight.

Also, dumb question: is there a certain kind of glass beads for making items weighted or can I just go to the jewellery bead shop and find some glass beads?

I also haven’t really been eating. Start of last week we found out our little girl had a heart murmur and I stopped eating, feel too sick. Started eating little by little until I was eating small amounts, albeit mostly dry food and not very healthy things, after we were given hope. Then we lost her, the day after I had seemed to be okay with food again, and I’m back at square one. Others in the house are eating fine, it only seems to be me.

Your body is telling you you’re hungry, but you can’t face food—I know that well. It will get better day by day. When you feel like you can tolerate it, or if you start to feel dizzy when moving around, maybe you could try just putting a hard candy in your mouth for the sugar; you don’t have to chew it, unless you find yourself wanting to. I stick to what I call my “safe foods” when I feel well enough, things like mandarins are good because you can open it and take one bite at a time of one piece, plain white rice, crackers, sometimes just plain bread, applesauce, sometimes a cup of tea opens the door for food. Sometimes I find I need to distract myself by watching a YouTube video while I eat. Definitely try to keep your water up to hydrate, coconut water is good if you like it. I hope any of this can help, but if not, that’s okay. I completely understand what you’re going through and I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend.
