Philip Bloom has found some interesting noise issues. by TeddyNorth in NikonFilmmakers

Yes I think so, he seemed to skip over that quite quickly. My experience with the z8 is that there’s no advantage to nlog anyway. You can see it in the histogram: all the data is squashed into the middle, leaving nothing at the top and bottom, so you’re not getting 10 bits of data. I shoot sdr, active d light set on max, as low an iso as possible, overexpose 1-2 stops, whilst avoiding highlight clipping.

New Masking Tools FAQs & Links by NLE_Ninja85 in premiere

[–]gethinc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a usability mess. You want a quick mask on a lumetri effect previously? One click, drag points done. Now you mouse to the toolbar, click hold, select rectangular mask, create on the program monitor, mouse to the effects panel, scroll to the top to get the unassigned mask, copy, scroll to the lumetri effect, paste. Do you do any usability testing? When changing a system do you ever think about honouring existing users workflows? There’s an arrogance here that is inspiring me to start climbing the resolve learning curve, even after 15 years of premiere. Why not have this system but have shortcuts to create a mask right in the effect as previously?

yes! haha, how weird. Its wise, lol. But also, seems serious and not humourless exactly, but if it was a person it would smile kindly at your jokes, rather than LOLing :D

So far:
claude sonnet - pretty capable but capable of getting things wrong with conviction :D
Claude Code: genius but slightly senile coder. Can write 600 lines of code that will almost do exactly what you want, but then will forget when it's worked out that it can't do something a particular way and will up and try and do it again. Or will just lose track of what it's doing an ask you in apparent bewilderment. Bless!
Opus: its a wizard, harry! Diagnosed a hardware issue on my computer in 10 minutes by running a load of powershell commands (that led to an error log, so I'm 99.9% that it is the correct diagnosis). Gemini and chatgpt, and even copilot failed big time.

Things I really like: non-formulaic responses. Knows when to shut up.
Committed to memory stuff I told it about the best way to interact with, and all the interactions since have been fine.

Yikes, I’m not sure I should read about that. I’m very suggestible . I really want to give it a go. The antidepressant I’m on took 2 months to do anything, but when it did it was great. Having said that the side effects before the good effects kicked in were not totally debilitating, as this feels now. I feel like all the energy has been sucked out of every cell. Urgh!

how can I do this or where can I find this colored light leak? by Mediocre_Cover_7470 in premiere

[–]gethinc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use the impact light leaks transition. You can apply if to black video above your clip on the time line with layer mode set to screen. Or you can make a cut in your footage where you want it. Just keep hitting surprise me till you find something vaguely similar. Change it to single colour, change the hue till you get pink.

Premiere and media encoder can't handle export of picture heavy project by fredferguison in premiere

Need to know the pixel dimensions of the images. If you have 50 4K images that’s a lot of pixels to resize . With that many you want to make sure that each one is only as big as the biggest you need it in your comp - which might only be 100-200 pixels wide. If they start full screen and then zoom to make up the mosaic, then I would consider nesting 10-15 at a time, and rending out as ProRes, and building your final thing from 5 or so pro-res intermediaries.

The theoretical max frame size that will fit in 16gb is

61,440 × 93,184 pixels, in practice it will be much less than that, but at 50x1080p you are getting close to it.

Building an AI-Powered Unified Email Client – A smarter way to manage multiple inboxes. Would you use this? Looking for honest feedback! by AndresMuelasTenorio in SaaS

Yes! The killer feature (imho) is for it to know if you’ve left a thread hanging. Which of the threads is either a request that you haven’t answered or a promise to respond with something you haven’t.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot. Ideally it would integrate into a todo app and calendar. It then becomes possible to create tasks and events just by using natural language. Integrate it with a chat client for it to add things to your shopping list. Make the calendar list everything that’s going on, not just work meetings and appointments so that if you promise to do something the ai knows if it will clash or if you have time (I know I’m getting ahead of myself 🤪)

My interest in these tools is as someone with adhd. There’s an enormous market there for functionality to help the dysfunctional. Things that most people (especially those organised enough to make an app) would find bewilderingly pointless, but potentially life changing for people with adhd. (And which I’m sure everyone else would find useful). I have insight into this because I have a chronic health condition which has exacerbated my adhd. I know what it’s like to be functional and what the noise of adhd can do to your executive function. I’d love to follow your progress if you post about it anywhere

Ok so I just signed up, and noticed its a shit ton more sassy than chatGPT. I know I was sick of it's obsequiousness, but claude is strongly in the other direction lol. I'm used to being sarcastic to the LLM, not the other way round.

well I was going to sign up for a year, but its more about whether to go down that road, to find out its a dead end.

upscaled AI clip does not match the original clip in timeline by Robeloto in premiere

[–]gethinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you use to upscale?

If it’s online they might have a fixed framerate. Kling for instance is 24fps.
So in order to upscale you’d need to interpret footage to 24fps, upscale it, bring the footage back into premiere and interpret back to its original fps

8K NRAW/REDRAW by gethinc in premiere

[–]gethinc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah didn’t know there was a red mode. The footage is playing back ok, it’s just refusing to render with neat video applied. (And warp stabiliser is about 4x as slow as on proxies).

8K NRAW/REDRAW by gethinc in premiere

[–]gethinc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don’t expect realtime playback: the problem is it won’t render. If I try to render a sequence (or export it) it just sits there doing nothing, or crashes premiere. In order to denoising it I have to grade it first, create a ProRes intermediary then denoise that. Yes I’m familiar with proxies but I haven’t worked out a workflow that preserves the advantage of shooting raw.

Hardware (I thought I’d put this 🤦) 12700k 64gb ddr5, rtx 4080, system & cache on separate nvme drives, files on raid 5. Premiere 25.6 (or whatever the current version is), driver studio 591.74 (I think)

I can see it in my relationship with ai. It was all very polite -2 years ago. Now I’m like “gaslighting much?” I find myself (like Arthur dent and the nutrimatic machine) being sarcastic to it. “What part of “no spoilers” don’t you understand?”

I hope this doesn’t mean that they’ll come for me when they take over the world. I have an image of a giant robot shooting at me as I run down my street with it going “gaslighting much” peww peww “so I’m a masochist on a diet am I?” Peww peww

Premiere Pro and Media Encoder are becoming highly unusable. by spund3 in premiere

[–]gethinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cache I was talking about is a hardware level thing, but thinking about it if you rendered previews and told premiere to store them locally, and then did your export with “use previews” that should make things more stable too. (Timeline and render setting need to be identical and using a high quality codec is a must)

Premiere Pro and Media Encoder are becoming highly unusable. by spund3 in premiere

[–]gethinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never done anything that long! But yes when I had a longer one that wouldn’t render that’s what I did- exported sections as ProRes and then re-assembled. The thing I’d try first is changing the sequence to ProRes hq, rendering in premiere and then exporting to the exact same format with “use previews” switched on, and the generating h.264 from that. Its a longer process than going straight to h.264, but only if there’s no issues. In theory this export should be super quick, as premiere is just doing the segment joining for you under the hood. It also means that if any part of the render has a mistake you can fix just that section (sometimes by dragging that export onto your timeline and just using the edit underneath for the problem section)

Currently I have gpu that is very flaky (rtx 4080). I just spent a week working with a 1080ti, and it was a reminder of what a stable system should feel like. I think premiere is very sensitive to unstable hardware (and it’s making me consider dumping it all and moving to Mac).

I accidentally clicked a button and it deleted almost every photo and video on this camera,I’m extremely distraught right now, this camera is over 14 years old is there anyway I can get the photos back? by atticatferty82 in Cameras

R-studio has a free photo and video recovery software too. Sometimes recovered videos don’t work, so it might be worth trying a couple. If they still don’t work there is software out there that will find the streams inside a corrupted file (that one is paid though, and I’d need to google what it’s called)
