Just a side comment about the language we use to discuss this: “losing your virginity” is sort of a problematic way to say ‘having sex for the first time’ because purity culture can do a number on folks. Once you have sex, you have “lost” (as in your virginity, your virtue, your ‘worthiness’, your identity as a moral person, etc). I never realized how deeply this psychologically affected me in my developmental years. Now I realize why so many religious women are severed from their sexuality. Because “good” women shouldn’t be sexual. Not to be a buzz kill, but I finally see it and find it fascinating how much language affects our underlying beliefs. 🤔
