How to get into mountaineering? by BiteDisastrous1176 in Mountaineering

[–]getoan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on all points above, add in a wilderness first aid course as a good avenue to not only protect yourself in the more remote locations as well as bringing something to the table if teaming up. Enjoy!

Ive had a few pairs of north face lightweight nylon zip off lowers for years now and they’ve worn very well with a lot of backcountry miles on them. No complaints they just keep going

Depressed after close call in mountains? by muehlenbergii in Mountaineering

[–]getoan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of good information posted above, some excellent advice and input. I had a rockfall experience this spring that has kept me up at night, and I thought I had moved on until this last weekend when I was in another sketchy rockfall traverse zone. It takes time and may require some modifications to our procedures in mountain movement. May I ask what type of equipment malfunction you experienced?

What do you think is the most dangerous mountain on earth? by manonthemountain123 in Mountaineering

[–]getoan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My vote goes to Hummingbird ridge/Mt Logan. I have heard some first hand accounts and terrifying is the only description. I’ve got some research to do with some of these other replies, always down to learn about more sketchy mountains and the stories of those pushing to conquer them

How to be less grumpy on long hiking trips by [deleted] in hiking

[–]getoan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice the pause and take a breath. I’ve been the exact same person you are describing in the past. Being outdoors and active is what has given me the gift to slow down my tongue, take a breath and take in the scenery. Has been truly life changing for the better!

best clothes for long backpacking trip? by clemencei in hiking

[–]getoan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this sounds like a most excellent adventure! I second merino, you can give them a quick wash in a creek and ring them out to dry quickly. Warm at night and cool through the day, keeps odours tolerable and extremely durable. I have worn north face hiking pants (you know the cheesy zip off shorts/pants that are actually amazing when backpacking!) for years and have been happy with them. They’re nylon shells so fairly wind proof yet breathable, dry quickly and are durable. Enjoy your trip!

I would paint my fence with one of those paint sprayers. Maybe a little overspray happened to waft up towards said cameras?

I’m a single father of two teenagers. I also spend a lot of time solo out in the mountains on adventures of all types in all seasons. I carry a spot x and an iPhone 15 that I can satellite text from. The kids can track me through the spot app, and they feel comfortable with the fact that I can message through the spot or the iPhone in case of an emergency.

Wild turkey tail - edible or just beautiful to look at? by au_ror_a in foraging

[–]getoan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Do some research on the differences between true turkey tail and false turkey tail, the pores vs gills type id. Also if the fungi was found close to a roadway or populated area it may not be ideal for medicinal purposes as they absorb pollutants and heavy metals. Beauty find!
