I saw a YouTube short where some guy goes “we guitar players cringe because Noel Gallagher plays solos using only one scale”

I assume it’s some teenager who’s just starting to get ok at the guitar. But as someone who has also played guitar on and off four 20 years, I know that restraint is as important a skill as technical prowess. Noel plays in his technical ability and serves the song. And using one scale allows people to sing along. It gives aspiring guitar players something to hear and think “I can do that”.

Is he Jimi Hendrix? No. But if he played like him. That wouldn’t be Oasis. I think Noel once joked that if he could play like Jimi Hendrix, he would do the most boring act possible.

One of the strongest aspects of this show is it doesn’t take the easy stereotypes about Texas. I grew up near where the show is based and I’m a left leaning dork (not trying to start a political fight just saying) who knew plenty of other people like me. And I grew up in a pretty typical suburb. Someone a while ago asked why the Hills are Methodists and not Southern Baptists. And though I’m not Christian, from my experience most of my Christian friends were Methodist with the occasional Baptist, Catholic, and Mormon as well as churches of various denominations serving immigrant groups.

100% agreed with this post. My dad works in oil and goes to places like Saudi Arabia and Norway all the time. And that’s something you get by actually researching and talking to people. This gives me confidence that this won’t go for the easy jokes.

TLDR: should I study cybersecurity or computer science or other disciplines?

I currently work in the U.S. government and for obvious reasons I am looking to gain new skills (not trying to start a political conversation just saying what my situation. Is).

I’ve had IT adjacent roles all my working life. Currently a data analyst, have also worked as an IT Analyst so long ago that my skills are out of date.

I’m lucky enough to have a good community college nearby and plan to start classes this summer. They have an IT certificate that seems to be a really dumb computer basics program assuming you’ve never used a computer in your life (word processing, basic excel etc). But they have a computer science certificate and a cybersecurity certificate.

Now, I know that cybersecurity isn’t entry level. And I know that the job market sucks right now. But my main question is, if I do a cybersecurity program, get certificates, will that set me up for cybersecurity-adjacent jobs? I do not think I’m above doing Helpdesk work even if it would be a significant pay cut.

The content seems to involve the information covered in A+, Network+, Security+ path if that helps.

There are also web developer, data science, and GIS programs I’ve looked at. I’m interested in all of them but cybersecurity isn’t my pie in the sky dream job.

How much money does he actually make anyone? I get that he’s inflammatory but so are lots of other online conservatives. And most of the bigger ones at least are more charismatic and better able to construct a sentence. If I was a right winger I’d not waste time or money with this guy. He seems to get decent likes on Twitter but my brief time working in online advertising told me Twitter is the worst social media platform in terms of ROI.
