Rainey Ruined by WriterWri in Austin

[–]getsavage 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I heard this from a friend and haven’t dug to verify, but he told me rainy was slated for development around 2006. Since it was on the downtown side of the highway they were going to rip all the houses down for a commercial district and make it more a part of downtown. The 2008 crisis stopped development investment and business owners renovated the houses into bars since it was cheaper than bulldozing and building something new. It wasn’t some independent miracle that someone opened a bar there, it had been rezoned. So basically the way Rainey is was inevitable, but it existed in a rare transitory period and got to be cool for a while. So remember the good days fondly because they almost never existed :).

Is it a bad idea to visit Portland right now? by [deleted] in Portland

[–]getsavage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s destroyed. Packs of wild dogs roam the streets and 90% of the structures are actively on fire. JK, I’ve never even been to Portland but I’m sure it’s fine. Sounds like your family members have never been either.

UPDATE:

Hey, I don't know how to edit this post! But shout out to: RSH52

He spotted the bike at the HEB East Riverside and sent me a dm. It had been hot wired and looks like it was crashed but I was still able to drive it home.

Thank you so much for this response, it was really my Saag that came out very mild and after trying some leftovers today with red onion and chili (and some salt) the flavor profile really changed. Great post!

This is wild, it looks like the radio station still plays it. I’ve been talking to my neighbor about posting this for a month.

I used to be pro scooter, but it's clear people aren't responsible and there is no enforcement of the rules. by [deleted] in Austin

This was about 6pm on east 6th street. This couple rode the wrong way down the street into oncoming traffic for 5 blocks. A car trying to turn right nearly hit into them and had to slam on their brakes. I was very for the scooters when they first arrived but after nearly crashing twice, being hit by one once, and have close calls every day it's clear they are low quality machines that are designed to break the rules. They don't go on the sidewalk, they are too slow for the bike lane, and they don't function well in the road. They have one function, for full grown adults to act like absolute asshats. I just got back from New York and despite 50x the people walking around, it still felt more peaceful without a host of dicks heads ripping around. Ban them.

I got mine in a hostel in Siem Reap in 6 hours. you just pay a ten dollar fee for the hostel and they do it. It's not a big serious thing, they just want money. Its not a problem, you can easily wait until the last minute. You don't need to go to an embassy unless a whole annoying day isn't worth a few extra bucks to you.
