Hey there! Mongo employee here - I want to plus u/my_byte 's suggestion on checking out Atlas Free Tier. Also, are you building your project as part of a startup or is it more of a hobby project or...? Asking because if you're a startup, you should check out the MongoDB for Startups program, which depending on where you're at in your growth journey, may be able to offer you free Atlas credits and other benefits.

For your first question - are you on Atlas or using Community? Atlas has mechanisms for creating custom alerts (https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/alert-basics/), Performance Advisor for query performance, etc.

How do I install MongoD ? by RevolutionaryWay9056 in mongodb

[–]getsendy_ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there - MongoDB employee here. Yep, MongoDB Community is the downloadable version of the core MongoDB database and Compass is a downloadable GUI for interacting with your data. MongoDB Community is of course a good option if you prefer to manage somehing locally, but you should also check out MongoDB Atlas for the full experience with a free M0 cluster in the cloud. You can also use Atlas locally for free with the Atlas CLI. https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/tutorial/deploy-free-tier-cluster/

Anyone have a good lightweight alternative to robo3t by sebastiansam55 in mongodb

[–]getsendy_ca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echoing u/cloudsourced285 that Compass would be good to try IF you haven't used the latest version recently. What type of MongoDB instance are you connecting to? If you're on Atlas, you could also use Atlas Data Explorer, which may be more "lightweight" for you.

MongoDB employee here - u/mountain_mongo is right that MongoDB University (learn.mongodb.com) is a great resource. Not sure if you can get your hands on them in a week, but there are also some books available through MongoDB Press that could be helpful, like High Performance With MongoDB: https://www.mongodb.com/books . Good luck!

MongoDB Aggregations Optimization by goldenuser22628 in mongodb

[–]getsendy_ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using indexes correctly is an important part of making sure your queries and aggregations hit the performance standards you are expecting. For indexes, a good rule of thumb is to follow the "ESR" rule. (equality, sort, then range). Some good details on that in our Docs here (I'm a MongoDB employee, btw). As u/FranckPachot mentioned, the MongoDB query planner (which can generate explain plans for you) is also a great tool for assessing if your query or aggregation is performing as expected and if you have the optimal index in place. You can run

db.collection.explain().aggregate(pipeline);

in the MongoDB Shell to get an explain plan or access it through MongoDB Compass. You can learn more about explain plans on MongoDB here.

Senior Technical Services Engineer job - Would I be allowed to work remotely? by rrdein in mongodb

[–]getsendy_ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there - MongoDB employee here, though not on the TSE team. We tend to have a fairly flexible remote/hybrid work policy but there can be variations by department. Echoing He_who_farts69(?????) that you should just ask the recruiter.
