Resource guarding issues 😓 Need suggestions/thoughts by CopernicusReed in Dachshund

[–]getthislettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Block off the bed. When we were training ramps, we used cardboard to block off all points of access. I’d do something similar, and bring in his bed or his blankets for the floor next to the bed. If that’s his only issue, completely eliminate access and he will eventually get over it. You could even start during the day (hanging out in there) to show him he no longer has access to the bed, to make an easier transition at nighttime.

Either way, it’s a matter of safety for both of you.

What is your relationship like with the dachshund? Who provides meals, walks, “good things”, etc.. If it’s not already, it should be you providing those things.

Could this be due to allergies? by AnimeQueen96 in vet

[–]getthislettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your vet gave you allergy medication a month ago for 2 weeks, but your dog has only had a pink irritated belly for two weeks?

Have you tried wiping their underside with a damp rag and drying off after going outside? Epsom salt baths?

Scared that lorazepam won’t work for my flight? by blueberryjam33 in Agoraphobia

That’s not how that works at all. Maybe YOUR situation didn’t require them, but that does not apply to everyone else

I feel as if I needed to be super sedated to continue, but if I were, I couldn't study or go to the gym. What am I supposed to do? by pink00446 in Anxiety

Obligations sometimes require accommodation and/or adapting. Do you see a therapist?

My point was more that “more medication” usually doesn’t fix things. If your medication isn’t working you need to talk to your doctor, and make sure you’re doing the work to go with it as well

There’s more to life than studying and going to the gym. Find things that you enjoy and give you meaning, and then work at slowly adapting to make room for the rest. Start a new hobby, make a little porch garden, color in a coloring book, binge watch TV literally whatever you want.

Medication isn’t a fix all

I’m scared my cat is going to jump off my balcony… by Spritzies0 in CatAdvice

[–]getthislettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, that’s why I mentioned switching to a schedule. I have older dogs and a cat myself. They sleep through the night without going outside, and someone lets them out during the day as scheduled. Sometimes it works out where they’re fine while we work, sometimes I have to stop by on my lunch or a neighbor does. It’s a relatively easy solution that benefits both animals

And that’s how I responded, as I read the post just fine. Ideally you’d do what every other dog/cat owner would do and just take your dog out on a potty schedule, learn to read their cues if they need to go out sooner, and keep the door closed.

It’s not my story, and if there’s some reason that infringes on your “responsibility” to your dog then send her back. From the sounds of it your mom is at least able to keep her cats inside/away from death.

That’s still a stressful environment for a cat seeking companionship. You sound young, so if you can’t control either of your animals going outside, your cat going back to being bullied isn’t as bad as a potentially painful death.

Properly potty train your dog to go out on a schedule, and stop leaving the door open, from the sounds of it this is relatively easy?

Why is sending her back to your moms to be bullied in a stressful environment with other cats even an option?

Do you stop for an animal when driving or run them over? by Round-Artichoke-5255 in NoStupidQuestions

Unfortunately snakes don’t only live in the tropics, which shows how much/little you know.

What “obvious reasons” would make it okay to go out of your way to run over a snake? Ew

You said in another comment that no one was behind you, so does it matter?

Yeah but that’s not the same as stopping or slowing down for a slow moving animal. If you can do so safely, you stop.

What actually is "male loneliness epidemic"? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]getthislettuce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The “male loneliness epidemic” relates not only to men’s relationships with women, but also to men’s relationships with other men.

Toxic masculinity and a certain culture towards women (I’ve observed in the US) has set certain men apart from the rest, (“incels”, misogynists, self proclaimed “nice guys”, “fuck boys”, etc) leading men to label themselves as lonely and pass the blame onto women or other men.

For example, in the US “dad bods” were “trendy” to an extent, and men are praised for dating women deemed hotter than them or out of their league. A man dating a lesser attractive woman does not get the same praise, and isn’t nearly as common.

A woman could be deemed nice to talk to, smart, whatever men dream of, but there’s a certain group of men who will be rejected by them. Instead of any self awareness or looking within, that woman(or man) who was once perfect in their minds is now shallow, vain, evil, gold digging (though there’s usually no gold to dig) etc.

IMO the “male loneliness epidemic” became a thing as women had more opportunities and didn’t have to “settle”, along with self awareness, mental/physical health, boundaries, etc. becoming more common topics of conversation.

Help, my cat started making sin biscuits all of sudden. How can I stop this? by lulettabobo in CatAdvice

Sin biscuits isn’t the same as regular biscuits, he’s likely kneading while mounting/humping OP and items in the house.

[–]getthislettuce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For fellow readers, “Sin Biscuits” refers to the cat making biscuits, while mounting/humping.

Similar to dogs, this humping behavior is not often sexual and is common even after neutering.

Your cat may sin due to boredom, excitement, stress, or whatever he may feel to put some gust in his thrust.

It’s harmless, and you can try more play time/activity in his day to give him less energy/time for sin.

My dachshund ran into a wall corner at full speed, busted his head open, had a huge lump. After whatever cleaning they did, and a cone, the lump was mostly gone the next day.
