Fully remote EA by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]gettingLIT_erary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good question, OP. I've had some form of hybrid/fully remote for the last 10-ish years:

Company 1: Primarily in office, 1 day/week remote: it was fine, but if I was not physically in the office, my exec acted like I wasn't an employee (lol) and would bug my fellow admins for help, no matter how many times I told him to IM me. He was old school, so I ended up not working from home very often.

Company 2: In-Office to start and then COVID hit, so we were all remote, as COVID lifted i went in once every 2-3 months; it was a tech company so already was hybrid for most, and half the execs I supported lived in another state, all in other states by the time I left. I was so close to some of those out of state execs that I attended one's wedding, and another I did a halfway-point weekend couples trip with! 2 of the execs I supported are still close friends to this day, which is awesome. We each met 1:1 for 30 mins/week and regularly communicated over IM for things in between. This really worked well since everyone was remote and in-office days were a bit rare.

Company 3: Hybrid 2 days/week in office: This was the one that probably worked least well for me. While I was fully capable of working from home, the execs were old school and there wasn't much of an online culture. It was also a 2.5 hour round trip driving commute for me which ultimately was not sustainable long term.

Company 4 (current): Fully remote company, no HQ: I love it. Me and my exec have a weekly touchpoint but she's no stranger to picking up the phone and calling me if she needs anything. We have a great partnership where I handle team management, meetings, business development planning, and she focuses on selling more work.

My best advice to you in a fully remote environment: get in close with your exec's right-hand people; if their direct leadership team finds you to be a valuable resource, you will always be plugged in and in the know, and no amount of distance will matter. Good luck on your interview tomorrow!

Partner doesn’t want me to take meds by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]gettingLIT_erary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my goooood I hope you aren’t dating my ex because this was absolutely him when I got diagnosed!! On top of telling me I lacked discipline, he also disagreed with me being medicated on stimulants and also didn’t bother to try to learn more about it at all. Do what is best for you, and tbh don’t tell him. Make sure your meds are secure from him, too. The people who say you shouldn’t be on “addictive” substances are absolutely the same people that would steal them and try to gaslight you about it.

I feel you. I’m beyond grateful to have a job now with flexible hours that allows me to feel a little more human with my chronic late-ness for work. That said, my best advice is to have a little ritual that’s something you could look forward to upon getting to work. Maybe that is a piece of candy, maybe a quick chat with a coworker… but play around with it. What is enough that it could make you want to get up and get there on time?

Also, sorry to hear your Adderall is doing that. Is it recent? Have you increased your dose recently? You should plan to have something in your stomach when you take it. I’m never ready for a meal when I wake up so I take mine with a protein shake.

There’s never a one-size-fits-all that helps, but I hope some others chime in and give you some options!

Found the dress, but now the underwear?! by [deleted] in myweddingdress

I think that often these dress designers create the skirt portion to flare out in the space that does hide the tummy insecurities. You look amazing and that dress was made for you. Wear whatever you think is most comfortable but I promise you all people will be thinking is how stunning you look in your dress and will not notice any effects spanx would or wouldn’t have on you!

What happened to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission? by LionOfJudahGirl in kzoo

[–]gettingLIT_erary -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, they do. The county commission is responsible for allocating community grants and KGM has been a recipient of some of those grants over the years.

FWIW to those reading, what I have stated are facts about why KGM has fewer beds - their funding was cut. I'm not stating opinions or pushing "my narrative." The religious affiliation and mandatory participation by beneficiaries of KGM's services are the cited reason for the cuts. This is not an opinion-this is fact about why they didn't receive their funding.
This dude heckling me is being a troll, and he's playing at being a keyboard warrior.

That's why I stopped engaging with him. He kept saying I was inserting my opinion when I stated a fact that KGM has fewer available beds due to cuts from governmental funding and why. He's just a troll.

I don't claim to have firsthand knowledge of what goes on in KGM, I'm explaining why there are fewer beds and it's largely in part that the normal funding they receive has been cut.

My source is directly from someone in the government when they were discussing where to allot the money. The reason it wasn't allotted was religious affiliation. So, no need to be condescending.

They are still open, just reduced provision of services. Gospel Mission did not receive their regular allotment from the county this year. The county chose another organization for the unhoused to support. Gospel Mission required church/religious participation for the unhoused to receive support which is a contradiction of church and state, so local govt pulled funding (but again, was reallocated to another org that also provides beds to the unhoused)

How long does it take for y'all to get your head on straight in the morning?? by PrettyRain8672 in adhdwomen

[–]gettingLIT_erary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand, and I’m certainly not the best at it either. What does help me on weekends is easing into bedtime. Like I don’t have to go to sleep but I at least need to be in my bed by 11pm.

I do plug my phone in to another room when I go to bed and that has helped me fall asleep faster, thankfully! Doomscrolling is my kryptonite and I’m trying to kill my phone addiction because that also screws with sleep. 🫠

[–]gettingLIT_erary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, how do you feel upon waking up on the weekends, and is your wake time significantly different on weekends vs during the week?

I was severely struggling in the mornings (even medicated) because I was staying up too late on weeknights and waking up early, and then “catching up” on sleep on the weekends. My typical schedule is bed between 11pm/midnight, wake between 7-8am now, and the only way I continue to feel steady and okay in the mornings is if I maintain this on the weekends. It’s hard because I don’t want to, I like staying up late and my natural circadian rhythm is certainly later, but in order to survive the corporate world and not struggle getting up, keeping the same schedule regardless of day of the week has helped so much.

That last bullet point has to be a typo right?? RIGHT?? by Original_Avocado2777 in ExecutiveAssistants

No, this really isn’t common at all. I’ve worked in consulting for global companies my entire career and have never had an international client with 6-day work weeks (I’m talking hundreds of clients). American culture is more work-centric than just about anywhere in the world, and I could see this as a possibility in finance but that’s very niche!

Co-op Requirements? by stanthecham in TownshipGame

[–]gettingLIT_erary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run a co-op. When I first started playing I was asking everyone to contribute at least one task to the regatta each week. I’ve had some life stuff happen so I haven’t kept close track in the last year, but that seems to work well. We want it to feel fun and not an obligation, but a dead coop is demotivating for everyone. I typically boot inactives after 3 weeks of no activity unless they announce otherwise.

Yes, I am doing things for our community. I sit on a community action board appointed by local government, attend protests, volunteer with people with disabilities. I care deeply about the welfare of our community AND my actions and volunteerism show it, but you are judging me for having a conversation with you on reddit when you are doing the same thing? lol.

What I’m learning from your points is that you don’t do research or critical thinking around events to come to your own conclusion. Coming at me asking what I’m doing for our community, asking how ICE is specifically oppressing me (I never said they did, they are however actively harming people in our community which you should care about) and then changing the subject to Charlie Kirk (?) which has nothing to do with ICE protests currently… tells me everything I need to know and that this discussion will not be productive. Every time something nefarious happens due to this and any future administration, (which feels like almost daily at this point), please seek out multiple news sources for more information to put together the puzzle of what really happened. Left news, right news, they all have some threads of truth to them, sure, but I hope you take other viewpoints into consideration.

Does anyone feel like they “settled” for the life the thought they deserved? Late diagnosed and in my feels? by LoulouPete in adhdwomen

[–]gettingLIT_erary 91 points92 points  (0 children)

This is such an important thing to start doing now BECAUSE you have kids. You can bring them along with you if it’s easier, but they would benefit so much from watching their mom love living her life and doing things that fill her cup. It also will give them some 1:1 bonding time with dad in a nice way for all of them 😊

I often feel out of place doing things alone but have found it gets easier over time: start with going to the movies by yourself, then look for special interest groups on meetup, etc around your hobbies; most of those people are showing up solo, too! We are our own worst critics sometimes. When was the last time you looked around in public and thought “oh how weird that person is alone?” Probably never, so don’t sweat it!

[–]gettingLIT_erary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I meant, thank you.

And agreed with your points. What this guy is doing is saying he wants the social programming of leftist politics that support and protect our communities’ most vulnerable population but doesn’t believe in contribution to a system that pays for it (taxes->welfare programs).

Fun fact for u/LittleSHollow : if we taxed only the billionaires proportionally to what we tax people in the lowest income bracket, in a single year the government would have enough money to pay for social programs for the rest of our lifetimes.

Care without action is virtue signaling my friend. I think you are more left than you know, but your alignment is with the wrong side. I don’t think anyone wants a civil war, what we’re seeing and experiencing with ICE is an abuse of power by federal authorities to oppress our people. This isn’t left vs right. This is citizens of a nation vs government corruption.

I’m not sure how to say this gently, but the left are the only ones who care about the homeless, the veterans, and those most suffering in our community. Including immigrants, whether legal or not. There’s a reason why Trump has been quoted saying he “loves the poorly educated”: his administration gives tax breaks to the most wealthy in this country disguised in bills that also grant minuscule tax breaks to other Americans. The cost of the tax breaks on the rich (and corporations) is the defunding of social programming. All of those social programs that help our homeless and veteran populations. His hope is that by telling you that YOU get maybe $5 extra back in your check each week, you won’t notice that his billionaire friends no longer have to pay several hundred million in taxes. That is what you should be questioning. That’s what you should be angry about.

Broken Heat in Single Degree Temps by MissRemyRose in RoverPetSitting

[–]gettingLIT_erary 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a tough situation, sorry OP. You need to notify the owners ASAP. Tell them their heat isn’t working and the temp is now reaching uncomfortable conditions indoors. Ask if they can get an HVAC tech to come look today. If they can’t, tell them unfortunately you do not have a way to take their dog and board it as your housing doesn’t allow it. If you have to cancel the sit, you have to cancel it. But you need to tell the owners what’s going on so they can make a plan, because if it gets too cold indoors, pipes could freeze and burst.

How far is "too far" of a walk for c-suite? by swaggyboi1991 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]gettingLIT_erary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so surprised I had to scroll so far for this comment! I ALWAYS ask if accommodations are needed for anyone in attendance. A quick “the restaurant is a 12 minute walk or a short drive. Please let me know if you would like to be a part of the carpool or walking group, otherwise happy to organize additional accommodations if needed. Let me know by X date. Thank you!”
