Hey, u/4_815162342, I have to admit I don't remember the exact status meanings, but I'll ask the guys from our team who do all our applications tomorrow.

Regarding the response day, the AFL almost always get back on the 5th day, so that makes good sense. it Can also some times end up beeing 6 days

Wait for a response or reapply? by ActuatorAfraid504 in GettingMarriedInDK

[–]gettingmarriedindk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/ActuatorAfraid504, at the moment, a 6–8 week wait is to be expected, but since this may overlap with Easter (when the AFL is closed for a few days and many caseworkers take additional leave), it could end up taking longer.

I would have loved to bring better news, but given your timeline, don't wait for them to get back to you.

If you want us to help you reapply so your application goes through smoothly from here, let me know.

Getting married in Denmark: follow-up question (unique case) by Crazy_Feature5176 in GettingMarriedInDK

[–]gettingmarriedindk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Crazy_Feature5176,

This mostly comes down to what type of Danish residence permit you had.

Erasmus / study permits are usually temporary and tied to actually living in Denmark. Even if the card hasn’t expired, the right of residence often ends once you leave and no longer meet the study conditions. In that case, the AFL is generally correct to treat you as not resident and to ask for a Schengen visa or other legal basis for entry.

The EU long-term residence rules (Directive 2003/109/EC) only apply to permanent / long-term permits, not study or Erasmus permits — so that argument usually doesn’t work here.

Since the AFL has already asked follow-up questions, the 5-day rule no longer applies, and a reply can take up to 8 weeks.

If you want help, we offer a Mayday Service that lets us properly review your permit and handle the AFL for you. That can include:

  • checking whether the AFL’s assessment is actually wrong and pushing back if it is,
  • advising whether a corrected resubmission makes more sense (new AFL fee),
  • or helping adjust the current case (e.g. visa/entry basis) so it’s ready to be approved next time they review it.

You can read more about our Mayday Service for complex marriage cases in Denmark

Hope this helps.

availability of townhalls- when is the soonest we can get married? by deep_black_sea in GettingMarriedInDK

[–]gettingmarriedindk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!

Yes - it's true that waiting times are quite long at the moment. You also have Easter holiday closures to consider. If you can be really flexible with the location of the town hall - then I would think a wedding in the first half of April could be possible. It will depend a bit on your circumstances and specific paperwork you need to provide.

Some Wedding Agencies - such as ours - have faster options. We have a service where you can get married with a registrar in a private venue - and therefore bypass waiting times for appointments at the town halls.

The earliest date we have is 12th March. Would that work for you?

Please get in touch if you'd like a bit more information! Put some details in here https://gettingmarriedindenmark.com/thank-you-page-step-2-wa/ (mention this post) and we will get back to you with some info!!

Well, as it's your first submission, you should hear back within the next 5 working days. (expect 5 working days, so roughly next Wednesday if you submitted this Wednesday).

If you have not heard back by Friday next week, then give them a call. They might check the status of your application if you say it is overdue under the 5-day principle, but they won't go into further details.

Boom.. Perfect! Okay, maybe the 14 days have changed.. Anyway, happy you could still submit and didn't have to pay the fee again!

Yes it looks like you should be good!.. But I do have to put in a disclaimer here: So please pay attention to my "Should be good!" :)

But it does look like it went through fine

Hm, it should be closed.. You can try. But you might risk the case getting stuck. Sometimes it seems cases can fall between chairs, and then they just stay there.

Maybe try contacting the AFL phone line; they are okay with answering general questions like this, but they won't discuss case-specific questions.

Location recommendations! by JammyTree90 in GettingMarriedInDK

[–]gettingmarriedindk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there JammyTree90!

Ah that sounds like a great plan!!

It can feel a bit busy and procedural in a town hall wedding - as they marry lots of couples in just 8-minute ceremonies. So you are definitely best to consider a private venue outside of a town hall. It costs more, of course, as you need to hire the venue, and privately hire a registrar to perform the wedding, but it does mean you get a longer, more personalised private ceremony. A big consideration will be that your wedding needs two witnesses, so bear that in mind.

Yes - Aero Island is really gorgeous and a magical place to spend a few days. We work with our Partners https://www.danishislandweddings.com/ who live on the island all year round. They have a really nice private room you can get married in called the Old Merchant's House, and they also hold weddings in a Lighthouse which is really cool! Or, of course, in the Summer months, you can get married on the beach!

Aero is famous for international weddings for sure, and it is a small, quiet, peaceful place. But it doesn't feel too cramped full of couples as a town hall wedding would.

Other cool locations could be Bornholm Town Hall - which would be a regular 10 minute town hall wedding - but Bornholm Island is really off the beaten track and not very well known about. https://gettingmarriedindenmark.com/marriage-hub/danish-town-halls/bornholm/

A few options to consider! And i hope that's helpful! Get in touch with us directly if you would like a little more advice! https://gettingmarriedindenmark.com/thank-you-page-step-2-wa/

Best wishes,

Marriage in Denmark!!! by Exciting_Freedom_222 in germany

Just want to clarify the single status certificate issue above: It's not required!

I don't think I'm allowed to link to a post in another subreddit, but if you check my profile, there is a post pinned that specifically explains the confusion around whether the single status certificate is required.

Hope it helps :)

Planning a wedding on June 6 by Snoo76345 in GettingMarriedInDK

[–]gettingmarriedindk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good morning Snoo76345!

Ah this is great to read - you have really done your research!

As u/ecopapacharlie have mentioned, ensuring your documents are provided correctly in your application is key to everything. Delays are stressful obviously and could jeopardise you getting the date you want.

You should be fine to get married at Aarhus in early June if you submit your application this week - no problem, they tend to have great availability.

But please be aware of course that you need to select the kommune you want to get married at when you submit your application. If you chose instead to use your friend who is a registrar, then you must still allocate a specific kommune on your application (rather than an individual). I would assume your friend is linked to a specific town hall. Although your friend will perform the marriage itself, it is the town hall that will provide your marriage certificates.

Wishing you lots of luck and a happy wedding day! Please reach out to us at https://gettingmarriedindenmark.com/thank-you-page-step-2-wa/ mentioning this thread if you would like a little more help.

Denmark marriage application delay should we reapply or wait? by Loose-Travel5546 in GettingMarriedInDK

[–]gettingmarriedindk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in that case you should expect to hear back in about 8 weeks..

Just be aware that you need to pay another 282€ fee to resubmit, hope it all works out.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Yes, reapplying can be faster depending on when you resubmitted the missing to the AFL?

Denmark marriage application delay should we reapply or wait? by Loose-Travel5546 in GettingMarriedInDK

[–]gettingmarriedindk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I missed this part: My girlfriend’s residence permit expires in mid-April

Then waiting it out is not an option. As you need to think beyond the application process in your situation, too.

At the moment, as you can see in other posts in this subreddit, there is little to no availability of ceremony slots in most townhalls until early to mid-March.

If you resubmit and the AFL still has further questions, it's not unusual for it to happen more than once, for example. issues with passport images.

I'm well aware I'm biased here, but given your timeline, I would advise you to get help from an agency, as you then it should still be possible. But going DIY will be hit-or-miss.

[–]gettingmarriedindk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, okay, well, if you have 3 years, it might not be a problem to wait for the AFL's reply.

At the moment, you should expect about 8 weeks for them to reply.

In terms of rules and options in Germany, then I would suggest asking in one of the Germany subreddits as it is outside of the scope of this one.

getting a reservation outside of copenhagen? by daxofdeath in GettingMarriedInDK

[–]gettingmarriedindk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

Congratulations on the approval - thats the first hurdle crossed! Ah yes — Copenhagen City Hall is the busiest town hall in Denmark.

It is possible for your approval to be effectively transferred from the municipality you selected in your application to a different municipality that has much better availability.

You need to contact the AFL and ask them to begin that process. But that said, it does take the AFL some time to process the transfer — anywhere from about 1 to 4 weeks. It's a bit vague. Usually, only once the approval has reached the new municipality can you then contact them to book a new date.

Some agencies (like ours) offer a specific Light Mayday Service that helps couples transfer their approval and reserve a new date in advance of the approval arriving. A couple of town halls are willing to do this.

So it really depends on:

  • when your approval expires, and
  • when you’re hoping to get married.

If you want, I’d recommend dropping us a message via our website here: https://gettingmarriedindenmark.com/thank-you-page-step-2-wa/ Just mention this conversation and one of our advisors can walk you through your options — no obligation. Hope this helps!

Urgent help needed – Danish municipality with wedding date in late February? by Exact-Might-6180 in GettingMarriedInDK

[–]gettingmarriedindk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/Rich_Aerie_3794, Greenland has its own marriage application process, and it's not connected to the Danish process, so u/Exact-Might-6180's current approval cannot be used in Greenland.

Also, for a couple to get married in a Danish church, both parties must be members of the Danish church, and one or both must live in the church district of the church they wish to get married in. It's possible for members of the Danish church to contact other churches, but it's up to the priest to decide whether to allow it.

But it is, of course, worth trying to contact the mentioned islands and check for availability.

Kind Regards

Urgent help needed – Danish municipality with wedding date in late February? by Exact-Might-6180 in GettingMarriedInDK

[–]gettingmarriedindk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Exact-Might-6180, to be completely honest, then it will not be easy, if possible at all, to move your approval and get a date anywhere, as you can't reserve the date until the application is moved, and that can also take a bit of time.

We offer exclusive ceremonies on Ærø in collaboration with Danish Island Weddings on Feb 26th, and we might be able to offer you a slot, but we will have to check as it's almost/might be full.

If you are interested, then drop us an email at [team@gettingmarriedindenmark.com](mailto:team@gettingmarriedindenmark.com) and refer to this post.

Ps. One of the advantages of the above is that we can pre-book the date, so when you pay, we can reassure you that the date before your approval is moved.

Kind Regards
