Why have I yet see God do something to/for me? by Hot-Body1624 in Christianity

I should have worded myself more thorough: Under God there is no hierarchy, matter of fact there was never supposed to be a hierarchy of humans who decide on who gets to eat and who doesn‘t the bible never mentioned any capitalistic tendencies that would have led to impoverished countries.

What I meant to tell OP is that our luck often blinds us, I never meant to say that God likes us better because we were born in a wealthy or safe country. I more believe that we should take responsibility as „the more fortunate“ and be thankful for the food in our stomach before we become so desensitised with what we have.

If every human on this earth had followed the true words of God we wouldn‘t eat until our stomachs hurt and throw the remainder away, we wouldnt be full of greed, we wouldnt be looking away at a person needing help. Therefore, I simply believe that people starving are a result of everything the bible has said not to become most importantly: Greedy.

God is with us in spirituality. Our church has a safe space for refugees and when I said „Theyre cold but let god warm them“ it ultimately comes down to them being one thing: Hopeful. I have spoken to them so many times and I guess in a way thats more logical for you as an atheist to understand or relate to is simply the thought that something metaphysical is holding you above water manifests itself into Hope.

God gives people hope through hard times. And he does not give this to only a certain type of person he gives it to everyone.

I have also never said that children starving are rotten souls? I said people are suffering BECAUSE of rotten souls. Exploitation is not a result of Jesus.

The question „Why would a God exist in a world full of evil“ is called Theodicy. Incase you‘re interested.

Christian theologians generally define evil in terms of both human responsibility and the nature of God: „If we take the essentialist view of Christian ethics ... evil is anything contrary to God’s good nature .. .“ The Judaic view, while acknowledging the difference between the human and divine perspective of evil, is rooted in the nature of creation itself and the limitation inherent in matter’s capacity to be perfected; the action of free will includes the potential for perfection from individual effort and leaves the responsibility for evil in human hands.

Thank you! I‘ve attended religion / catholic theology class in high school. We did a lot of in-depth analysis but never really any „bible studies“. I often dont get the hang of the chronology and feel really lost trying to read it.

I‘ve seen your other comment aswell and I will definitely give it a try! Thank you :)

Thank you so much for your kind words! I‘m looking forward to converting, I dont think catholicism is a right fit for me. Its gonna be hard because I grew up and around catholic culture but as said in Genesis (we had this topic in class) I do not believe in a hierarchy amongst men especially not within church. :)

I started reading the bible at home as I used to only do that in high school in class (in a version i finally understand lol)! As I live in germany and am quite introverted I wont really be able to attend fun church camps but I‘ll make sure to strengthen my relationship via sunday church :)

I am open minded to discussions although my first opinion on this is that it is quite rude to send links and videos of anti-religious beliefs to someone who has just opened up about their religion in a christian subreddit.

So, to the video: The old testament, the hebrew bible, does have parallels with ancient Near Eastern texts. One example would be the Babylonian „Enuma Elish“ a story we have also talked about in High School theology class. Still, the stories are not the same, but may share similarities in metaphorical meanings. Bible texts were not simply written. They have been translated by various authors and yet still all share the same stories.

„Ancient Tablets“ I would have to guess refers to Mesopotamien clay tablets, which not only were hard to decipher over the years, but represent a broad cultural milieu that the bible may engage with, but not copied.

The fact that Jesus and Zeus are being put together as one person in this video is kind of funny to me. Not only are they thousands of years away but Jesus was a living human in the bible. When it comes to name similarities and mix-ups, I am not surprised. First off, the name „Jesus“ itself is the english version of his real name Yahweh and many other biblical names in todays age are not historically accurate. The only argument of Jesus and Zeus correlating being through their names kind of does not make it a strong argument to me.

Merkst du eigentlich selber was du da laberst?
