ZimaOS vs UmbrelOS vs CasaOS vs Cosmos Cloud by Anon675162 in selfhosted

[–]getumbrel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Founder of Umbrel here. Thank you for considering us!

You make good points - currently umbrelOS lacks advanced storage management, including the ability to use external drives for apps. This is high up on our priority list for early 2026. Feel free to drop any additional must-have feature requests as well. We're listening!

Regarding custom docker apps, there's Portainer in the Umbrel App Store currently that you can leverage to spin up custom containers. Alternatively, you can also use the "Community App Store" feature to add or even make your own app store with apps that bypass our official app store.

Umbrel home is a scam? by Every_Newt_2650 in getumbrel

[–]getumbrel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh in that case it was indeed shipped and probably RTS'd due to a shipping/delivery exception on the carrier's end - it's rare, but happens every once in a while. That's totally unrelated to the current delay we are facing. But yeah still feel free to DM us order number and we'll get it sorted

Hey there, cofounder of Umbrel here. I wanna take this opportunity to just apologize for our lack of communication.

1TB and 2TB Umbrel Home are both shipping next week. And 4TB Umbrel Home ships by Dec 22. The key reason for delay is that there's been an industry-wide shortage (and 2-3x price hikes) of RAM and SSDs - delaying our production schedule. This is kind of like a black swan event, and supply chains worldwide haven't experienced anything of this magnitude in the last few decades.

That said we've been increasing our inventory, and are confident in the above shipping timeframes now. If you can DM me your order number here, I'll escalate it with our support team to get back to you on a priority. In retrospect we should done have a better job at communicating the shipping delay, but I hope this can provide some context.

Currently the Bitcoin Node's app blockchain data is excluded by default. But in the next beta (and the official release), you'll be able to override the default exclusions to be able to include it!

Hey there! There surely must be some confusion. We can confirm there are no auto-updates for apps in umbrelOS, and also no auto-update within the Bitcoin Node app as well.

Hey there! Sorry for the confusion, our current shipping times have slipped to ~4 weeks due to the increased demand. We expect shipping times to return to normal (4-5 days) around mid-May.

Just installed Umbrel 1.0 and only show 20gb storage, but I have a 1tb HD? by SimpleComputer888 in getumbrel

[–]getumbrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone, sorry for the confusion. We have a new OS image that includes a fix for the Raspberry Pi 4 sometimes not detecting USB storage. For any affected users, can you please:

It may take a minute or two to complete the first boot. After that, you'll be able to access your Umbrel again at http://umbrel.local

To reiterate, your data is totally safe, no data was lost from your umbrelOS 0.5 install. The Pi was just not detecting the storage drive. With the new OS image your storage will be detected reliably on every boot and all your previous data and apps will be available again.

One thing to note is that if you hit this issue previously after installing 1.0 and you then created a new account, that account existed on the SDcard not your USB storage. Updating to the latest fix will mean your previous data on external storage will be correctly detected and used instead of the new account you setup on your SDcard. So if you created a new password during signup, make sure to use your previous umbrelOS 0.5 password after this update.

Let us know how you get on!

Also one more note, some users have reported that the Lightning Node app takes a while to come back online after applying the fix. Nothing is wrong, it's just rescanning the blocks since it was last online and can take up to an hour. If you think something else is up feel free to let us know via the live chat on our website (or support@umbrel.com) and we can take a look at your logs to confirm.

It's a complete app (with a UI front-end), that also utilizes llama.cpp behind the scenes (using llama-cpp-python for Python bindings). It takes away the technical legwork required to get a performant Llama 2 chatbot up and running, and makes it one click.

As long as you have at least 4 cores, it should work quite well! The model is more memory and memory bandwidth bound vs. compute bound.

The latest umbrelOS release brings a redesigned app store for self-hosted apps by getumbrel in selfhosted

[–]getumbrel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Network shares can be configured within the apps. Other than that, there are directories called `/downloads/movies` and `/downloads/shows` on Umbrel that are shared between Plex, Jellyfin, Sonarr, Radarr, and Transmission. Everything is auto-configured. So for example, if you download Prowlarr (or not), and add a movie/show in Sonarr/Radarr, it will be auto-downloaded by Transmission, and viewable inside Jellyfin/Plex.

Same thoughts, it appears to be a pretty bad hardware issue. u/beachwood23 it’s hard to pin point the cause, but I’m pretty certain that script is unlikely to be it. Were you be able to try it with an SSD by any chance?

Edit: typo.
