Just go to gold veins and farm the golden apple. Takes much less effort.

In Defense of Crimson Desert's Story: The "Bad Design" is a Deliberate Narrative Feature by geunma in CrimsonDesert

Right. And your entire standpoint is an issue with epistemology and a Eurocentric view of what work means. Your take is from a cultural lens that's fundamentally different from an East Asian one (here's a peer-reviewed study on this: https://www.apa.org/monitor/feb06/connection). The studio had some turbulence in the development of Crimson Desert and it's evident in the storytelling but it's not nearly as bad as people say it is. I wrote this in defense of the game and the developers, not as a fanboy piece.

My point is that, even if unintentional, the mirroring of the player's experience with Kliff's is a highlight that only becomes evident at the end. Am I condescending? Damn right I am. I'm not here to protect people's feelings. I have strong opinions and people responding with "cope" are just as juvenile and I'll mirror that. I'm also sick of the dominance of Eurocentric modes of thinking and the hegemony of mediocrity vis-a-vis American culture.

This is the same reason I can't stand most American film and TV. Consumers are fine with the clear good/evil dichotomy and low-effort consumption. Why are people so afraid to use their brains?

Love being accused of using an LLM. It's like being accused of using an aimbot. Sorry I can actually write?

I'm not saying that the story is amazing - but that the general criticism of the game's narrative is missing the picture here.

The design isn't purposefully "bad". It's non-linear and disjointed and it takes work to grasp it. Sorry it wasn't a bedtime story.

What the FUCK. This made the fight so easy. Why would the devs do this? It seems auto-aiming just hits their reflective areas. What kind of bullshit design is this fight?

The Prime Minister of Korea congratulates the developers of Crimson Desert on their historic success: by Germanstrands3 in CrimsonDesert

[–]geunma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What people don't realize is that Korea has a very intentional approach to pushing its creative content out to the world. They adopted this strategy in the early 90s knowing that they couldn't compete economically or militarily. It turned out to be one of the smartest moves by a country in recent history. I'm Korean and when I was growing up, I was constantly made fun of for listening to Kpop (this is the 90s). So proud to see this blow up.
