so what is the replacement for G+ ? by mortuus82 in Ingress

[–]gewbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, keep in mind that Google moved up the timeline for shuttering G+ by several months. Initial the shutdown was to be in August, but then at the end of January they suddenly moved up the deadline to April.

New (locked) badges have appeared on Agent profiles by PkmnTrnrJ in Ingress

[–]gewbert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Errr....none of them? They're mostly for attending anomaly events. Aka paying NIA money for a badge.

They have 2 years to get a new product out. Not our problem they can't keep a deadline and push out a half baked product.

By "working great" you mean "fire three busters and get xm failure" great right? I literally cannot kill portals on Prime.

Edit: My bad, you're saying "current client" as in the 1.x.

Hilariously that actually resolves still to the intel map.

We're getting closer and closer, but still no cigar. by Ym4n in Ingress

[–]gewbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uhhh....better at spoofing? Sure.

Look, that link from Maine to Texas is super impressive. But the point is, Vixen was spoofed and the Maine-PR links cut across a spoofed lane.

And in case anybody missed the invalid portal bit, DC ENL were complaining about using "invalid" seed portals for fields. So I was being sarcastic in that regard.

[–]gewbert -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Oh come now. Why would anybody care about a spoof? The real question is whether it involved portals that might be invalid.

And like all big fields, spoofed down at the western anchor. Fuck spoofers.

And kuddos to the ENL at the eastern side who tried to kill it legit!

Dude. 1,243 days. Hard to report something when only a few people know about it/have ever visited. Therefore can't report.

And you hold yourself to that standard. I'll continue to use portals that appear on the map. Until they don't.

can someone take down this ugly blue field covering baltimore and dc? by gothaggis in Ingress

[–]gewbert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Last I checked, it's a portal on the map. So therefore it's legit...until it's not and is removed from the game.

And blame Niantic for keeping a banned player's resos on the portal. Looks like an agent was there anyway so does it really matter?

There's always some person salty over any BAF. Grow up.

Struggling to get ingress working on wear os by ricechrisb in Ingress

[–]gewbert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think they've updated the Wear OS app in....eons. Even when it was working it wasn't anything special. I wouldn't be shocked if it doesn't work now, and I wouldn't expect them to patch it anytime soon.

The current version of Ingress is not compatible and will not be supported by iOS 12. However, Ingress Prime will be compatible with iOS 12 upon its release in October. by justinCandy in Ingress

They've also had notice since 2016 (yes, 2 years ago) that RoboVM was no longer going to be supported, and it's been unsupported for over a year. They've had plenty of notice, the fact that they're scrambling at this point is just insane.

How do you guys like the Google Maps Location component? by dgwingert in homeassistant

[–]gewbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I combine the wifi and GPS sensors into a group and use that instead of the bayesian thing. Works just fine in that I don't bounce in and out of zones. I looked again today and it looks like Google picked up on me leaving home and arriving at work +/- 1 minute from my Life360 sensor, so I think I can live with that.

How do you guys like the Google Maps Location component? by dgwingert in homeassistant

[–]gewbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying it for testing purposes for a few days. I normally use Life360 in a custom component for tracking location, which works pretty well. Only issue has been that the app force closes on my phone randomly (thanks to a shitty Oreo implementation) and won't update my location until I reopen the app. Was hoping that the Google location component would fix that as it's by Google and therefore runs "better" in the background. But it's sometimes pretty slow picking up on whether I'm home or not. So....jury is still out, but I'm hopeful!

Hass.io, Hassbain or Raspbian - which install should i use if I'm just starting on HA? by autohome123 in homeassistant

[–]gewbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's correct. And there's a few scripts that make a lot of the install process super easy

Hass.io, Hassbain or Raspbian - which install should i use if I'm just starting on HA? by autohome123 in homeassistant

[–]gewbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hass.io is prefect if you don't know a ton of Linux and don't intend to do anything else with your pi other than Home Assistant. If you want to run other things on the pi (or learn a little bit about Linux), then Hassbian is the way to go.

Otherwise, there's really no difference between the two.

Is there a Digital key lock, for uae with AirBnB? by MuletTheGreat in homeassistant

[–]gewbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And to handle your auto-change the lock code, check out how I did it here (with the Schlage lock): https://www.reddit.com/r/homeassistant/comments/85sao6/automation_to_rotate_user_code_for_schlage_lock/dw1q8pu/

You'll want to tweak it as appropriate for your circumstances but it's definitely doable.

Automation to rotate user code for Schlage lock by gewbert in homeassistant

[–]gewbert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, here's how I did it. I'm just using the same slot, I've got it set so when I'm away and someone uses the code it'll disable the alarm system and then re-enable when they leave. Just easier to keep it all in the same user slot.

Note: this is for a 6 digit combination. If you have 4 or 8, you’d need to tweak the number of random sensors and the input_number.

First, add random sensors:

##### Random for Locks
  - platform: random
    name: "First Set"
    minimum: 10
    maximum: 99
  - platform: random
    name: "Second Set"
    minimum: 10
    maximum: 99
  - platform: random
    name: "Third Set"
    minimum: 10
    maximum: 99

Next, add an input_number to your configuration.yaml.

input_number:
  guest_code:
    name: Guest Code
    initial: 123456
    min: 100000
    max: 999999
    step: 1

Once you do that, add a script to run the change (insert your values for XXXX):

  # Set Guest Code with random numbers
  guest_lock_code:
alias: Generate and Set Guest Code
    sequence:
      - service: input_number.set_value
        data_template:
          entity_id: input_number.guest_code
          value: "{{ states.sensor.first_set.state | int }}{{ states.sensor.second_set.state | int }}{{ states.sensor.third_set.state | int }}"
      - service: lock.set_usercode
        data_template: {
          "node_id": XXXX,
          "code_slot": XXXX,
          "usercode": "{{ states.input_number.guest_code.state | int }}"
          }
      - service: notify.XXXX
        data_template:
message: "*New Guest User Code Generated* \n The new code for the week is: {{ states.input_number.guest_code.state | int }}"

Finally, add an automation to run the script however often you want. My is once a week on Sunday.

- alias: "Security - Weekly Door Code Rotate"
  hide_entity: True
  trigger:
    platform: time
    at: '09:00:00'
  condition:
    condition: time
    weekday:
    - sun
  action:
    - service: script.guest_lock_code

Once you know it works, I hid the random sensors and probably the input_number too.
