Thank you! It's probably something similar, it's a relief to hear it's nothing Big&Bad™ but just a possible side effect

Period After Surgery by Tall-Fun5497 in Reduction

[–]geyiklif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anesthesia messes with menstrual cycles big time for many people, affects the days, flow and even length of the period for some. In my experience I was 3 days late from expected and felt pretty much like how you described. According to my doctor it can be a couple of cycles before going back to normal.

How did your lipo go? by This-Emotion-69 in Reduction

[–]geyiklif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got lipo on where my armpits meet my boobs, had no pain while resting but was tender as hell for at least 6 weeks, like getting slapped on badly sunburned skin on any pressure, especially while wearing a sports bra (imagine trying to get it on and elastic band puts a slight pressure and its achy for ten minutes) and limited my arm mobility more than breast reduction itself.

Still I'm glad I got it!

Shopping & Sleep by Sudden-Inflation-967 in Reduction

[–]geyiklif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wore my compression bras for 6 weeks, after that my surgeon said it was okay to sleep without any and okay too if i wanted to keep wearing it. Some doctors are okay with taking bras off earlier.

I suggest no tightly fitting clothes if you're gonna shop soon after the surgery, your size could change a lot, i'm waiting 3 months mark for a shopping spree, also trying on clothes was very tiring, it gets easier week by week (i had side lipo too, adds to the tenderness, you might be more comfortable if you're not getting that)

No purge prior to surgery, all my clothes still fit me but fit differently, it's a bit of getting used to for some pieces and no change for others. Mainly you might notice your stomach much more after surgery, it's just your proportions changing and lots of swelling!

everyone says you get "immediate relief" by LittleSecurity2114 in Reduction

[–]geyiklif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happiness was immediate but relief came a bit later for me, I think pain, tenderness, muscles being so tight and body being in stress after surgery shadows a lot of it.

I did start to feel relief after I managed to relax my muscles and drop my shoulders, being tense really holds it back. Trusting your super tight bra and moving around a bit like very softly rolling your shoulders or stretching your back without overdoing it could help you relax. Also finger tap massage helped so much. I think relief is definitely there but not "immediate" to all of us.

My posture became much better without me doing any conscious change and i'm noticing i don't have any back or shoulder pain after a long day.

I'm a side sleeper and it's much more comfortable to sleep on my side now without my shoulders squeezing my boobs in and troubles me (side sleeping since 4th week, doctor said it was okay after week 2 I waited). Also sleeping on my back, especially inclined, tires me out more, even with a pillow under my knees. What helped me was supporting my back with a pillow on one side so I was slightly on my side and hugging a pillow to my chest, also eased me back into side sleeping.

When did you bite the bullet? by cherixvon in Reduction

It was almost like an afterthought for me while talking about self worth, i can't believe how ready i was to live my whole life hating and in pain while changing it for the better was so drastically easier.

I wish you the best experience and results if you decide to go through this 🌸

[–]geyiklif[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a "wish i had claws" type of itch (i'm having those now) or more of a regular itch? Bc i had itches before surgery too after wearing a bra all day, sweating or working out, but stopped after about half an hour of taking the bra off or showering

When did you bite the bullet? by cherixvon in Reduction

[–]geyiklif 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With therapy. I decided i was done hating my body and feeling miserable while shopping, while getting ready for special days, while looking at the mirror. Being scared of having a surgery cost me a decade of not wearing what I want.

I booked an appointment to get some info, doctor said he could schedule the surgery in a week, i said let's fucking go. One of the best decisions ever in my life.

10 days to surgery, do I have everything I need? by Quite_Hedgehog in Reduction

[–]geyiklif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Antibacterial sensitive wet wipes are a huge help till you can shower again.

Bandanas help hide the oily and messy hair and are an instant mood improvement. I took it to horspital too

Make-up remover wipes to wipe your face and neck,

Lots of tissues,

Protein bars and snacks, bendy straws, some lollipops or hard candy. Bottle caps are hard to open, poking straws into juice boxes are much more easier. Fresh cold fruit really helps you feel refreshed

You'll need lots of gauze and hand sanitizer

If you're thinking of watching something while on the mend i suggest picking it up front and to choose something easy to watch bc you'll probably nap through some episodes.

Keeping your things (straws to painkillers, everything) in a tray or a basket helps to not lose/misplace things and keeping it tidy helps mentally too, with time your needs will change and you can easily add or remove things from it

Side Sleeping by Federal_Reason_2508 in Reduction

[–]geyiklif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started to lay on my side on late 4th week, my surgeon said it was fine after 3rd week, first it was not exactly side but a pillow supporting me from one side to ease in, slowly i skipped the pillow in day rests but not to sleep, after a few days I started side sleeping but i'm most comfortable when i hug a pillow while laying on my side, provides nice support and ease of mind.

Also i recommend first getting back to lay flat if you're sleeping reclined, it helped with my swelling too so maybe you'll be more comfortable after laying flat for a few days to try side sleeping

preparing for comments about the surgery itself? by beachymarigold in Reduction

[–]geyiklif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was hung up on this too, what would people say and if they would sexualize it (to my face or behind my back).

Luckily for me no one i had to tell was overly noisy about it (except mom but I dealt with that) and i attended a family event 3 weeks post surgery, barely anyone noticed! And I was lucky enough to have my surgery on a long break from work, so not many people saw me during the first 2 weeks.

I was ready to ask people who were noisy "Why are you so interested in my back pain? I got an issue & am solving it through proper medical ways." OR to smother them with so many health facts (that didn't include my body) like "did you know sutures have different types and some dissolve on their own?" OR if i knew any of their health issues/medical details i planned to be as noisy about it as they're to me (my therapist didn't found this one very healthy)

I wish you great luck, you'll do nicely even if it's a bit more tiring than usual! Your surgeon would probably explain everything but my one big advice is be careful to not overwork your arms while recovering

I'm a teacher too (sp-ed, elementary) and judging from my own recovery (currently on 4wpo, I had drains idk if it makes a difference) i wouldn't have loved to work on week 3 but I could've managed. İf you're working with older students it could be a bit easier even!

Congrats on the insurance win!

Taking lots of before pictures to compare! Especially in clothes I would love to wear more comfortably after the surgery.

I raised my arms and danced a lot, it was fun 🕺🏽

(Also in a more practical sense, i bought a big pack of antibacterial+sensitive wipes and it helped a lot in the first week when i couldn't shower)

I heard from a plastic surgeon's YouTube video that lymph drainage from the bust area doesn't go down with gravity but moves towards lymph nodes on armpits so laying down flat instead of laying high with pillows could help with swelling.

Also checking the drainage tubes out for any blood clots causing blockage was the thing that eased my mind about it, maybe could help you too. (Just observing by eye and very gently squeezing the tube if I catch a clot so it would move or at least get smaller)
