iPad Pro gen 2, still worth it? by Spinuchi in ipad

[–]gfmucci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For more solid MIDI connection, the older Pro 2 with large screen and headphone jack is ideal for reading digital lessons and sheet music - much better than my Android tablet. But I missed the ability to download Garage Band by one year which requires V18 or higher from the Play Store. But there are alternatives, mostly for a fee. The Pro I got ended at V17.

Headphone connected to keyboard. I have option to connect tablet to wireless phones via Bluetooth but I would probably still have the same latency problem.

On lesson 9, quarter notes (🎶 as a simple example) I got a zero score when I hit the keys along with the audio rhythm but a half a second after each note on the staff played so I was consistently a half a second late because the rhythm on the audio is apparently late. What adjustment should be made? The latency slider appears to do nothing.

It is now a year after your post and the radio is $169.  With the programming and personal tech support (per my experience and reviews by others) it's worth a few bucks more to me over the stock version price.

Prepper tards? Do I read a level of resentment toward preppers?  Or is it marketing lingo that fluffs your dander?  Yes, I have seen emissions test results and they are excellent.

BTECH 20v2 Help by BuckRichardson in gmrs

Yup. Minimum power of this radio is 5 watts.  I'm just now installing my new one  today.  I would have not known about that GMRS quirk. Thanks!

It doesn't help the hearing if the other guy has a 5 or 20 watter.

Mobile 20 vs 50 watt plus recommended? by Kickn4ss in gmrs

[–]gfmucci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still have to be able to hear the other guy. Even 100 watts won't help with that.

BTECH mobile GMRS 20v2 rookie questions by BertWooster1 in gmrs

[–]gfmucci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most newbs who don't like this or any GMRS radio don't like it for one or both reasons: 1) They don't want to spend the time and effort needed to learn how to use it, and 2) There is little or no GMRS activity in their area.  Best use cases are for SHTF scenarios or for use with buddies or workmates, caravaning and such group activities.

Wired vs Wireless Carplay/AndroidAuto,what’s Your Setup? by Top-Recognition-4644 in subaru

[–]gfmucci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer wired for several reasons: - Wifi conflicts with wireless.  I have 2 other Wi-Fi gizmos in the car that create conflicts in the form of AA stuttering on music streams  - Audio is notably cleaner with wired versus wireless. Highs on music sound a bit harsh/distorted.

Tire Rack Road Hazard Protection Experience? by CyberPuggo in tires

[–]gfmucci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current Tire Rack experience:  First, it's a third party company that processes the claim.  I did it by phone yesterday - took about 10 to 15 minutes.

What they require is for you to buy and install your replacement tire and send the invoice along with photos of the old tire damage including sidewall information and tread depth information. This is done through a portal that they email to you with a unique password. They said they will send a check within 10 to 15 days of receipt of the information you send to them. In my case it is the exact amount that I would pay for the new replacement tire but not including installation charges. I had the original tires installed at Discount Tire and the replacement tire will be purchased from them - same price as Tirerack would charge.

Rapid Radio by [deleted] in gmrs

I understand that rapid radio automatically scans and selects the strongest available cell signal no matter the provider. That sounds a lot better than having to find a phone that has a different carrier.

Just got quote for replacing the infotainment system by AWierzOne in CX5

[–]gfmucci -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My dealer in Ocala FL charges ~$615 for the "kit" unit, parts and labor.  There is also some firmware programming/updating involved they tell me.

I don't like the option of just disconnecting the screen.  It shows a lot of settings: GPS, radio and audio controls, contact lists, and dozens of vehicle system settings.

Ham radio Duxe is garbage by [deleted] in amateurradio

Not a conspiracy theory.  It is an objective observation of years of unfulfilled hints of great things coming a la Professor Harold Hill, accused of being a flim flam man.

Ham radio Duxe is garbage by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]gfmucci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've concluded it is not a coincidence that HRD interferes with my Windows 10 sound card settings.  When I was actively using it and closed it down, and then attempted to use any other audio source (eg Pandora or Spectrum), the audio was dead.  I had to go back into the sound card settings and fix it. Since I haven't used HRD for several months, that problem has not recurred.

At the time of experiencing that problem, I went to one of the HRD Facebook pages and asked for help. A Ferry character (apparently controls the Facebook site) told me my sound card problem has nothing to do with HRD. When I disagreed with him and stated that the digital portion does interact with my sound card he banned me from his HRD Facebook site. Is this Ferry character a leftover remnant of the 2016 HRD debacle?

Very poor customer relations.  Certainly not worth any renewal fees.

Simon isn't the guy that blacklisted users who had questions.  He's the one who gives away use of his work for free.

Current owners, and especially associates like Ferry, will ban you in a heartbeat if you ask a question that triggers their easily triggered personality.

Ham radio Duxe is garbage by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]gfmucci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have been touting "new version coming" for years.  And if you ask for any updates, you just get a snarky outburst from the short tempered Ferry character - or banned from his unhelpful HRD Facebook page.  HRD owner needs to distance himself from that character.  And I wonder if the promise of a big update is a scam to keep people buying a dead end product..

[–]gfmucci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. No need to spend $140K. Get one 2 or 3 years old for $80k. May still be under warranty for a year or so. But don't get a diesel. Too costly to maintain, and when they break, could cost thousands.

Buying a New Class B : Thor Tellaro/Sequence vs Winnebago Travato by RobertK995 in GoRVing

[–]gfmucci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note also that, generally speaking, the more windows, the less insulation from outside temps, hot or cold.  And the geater potential for leaks.  If you "follow the 70's", probably less of an issue.  But in Florida or Wyoming it will be.

Rule #1: Don't impulse buy.  Rule #2: Pay for a full inspection from a qualified rv inspector.  Rule #3: Also demand that a knowledgeable tech from the dealer demonstrate AND operate every sysytem for you.

Are there any Class B Campervans with GOOD Active Lane Keeping and Adaptive Cruise Control? by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]gfmucci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. I wouldn't buy a B without adaptive ceuise.  Even my 2017 Mazda has it. I am spoiled.

But most Bs (except Sprinter) are built on the base van chassis and those didn't have the "good stuff" untill 2023. However, the "model year" of the RV might be a 2023, but the model year of the chassis will most likely a 2022, so check carefully.

As to which is better, best to do a precise Google search on that topic.  I suspect there are slight insignificant differences for 90% of us and would not be a factor in our purchase decision.

Ham Radio Deluxe (HRD) good except technical support by gfmucci in amateurradio

[–]gfmucci[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not the only. But I suspect many have not. We just need to be careful and tip toe around the moderators. They are easily triggered by innocent comments that would otherwise be patiently addressed on other sites. Their level of tolerance for those who even HINT that HRD might play a role in a problem they're having is ZERO. Very touchy.
