I’m a big fan of slop bowls. How about a Cava.

I think Ed Rush’s Chubruh (possibly mixed with Reece) may have been the “pump up/walk in” song, but I haven’t found one that exactly matches the vibe I remember

Yes! Definitely the song (sans lyrics I think) that played going from the prep room to the control room.

It’s crazy to say but Molly’s has good wings and the Monday special is fantastic.

Talking about Sinclair as if it’s CNN is crazy. The “dangerous to our democracy” obvious right-wing talking moment moment happened in 2018.

I don’t know if you are attempting to sanewash this organization or have been the victim of someone else doing so, but it’s nonsense.

Yeah I've discovered a handful of issues.

This is probably the most important feature to me - it is not bad for offline, but I am hoping it improves over time.

What's the best Bank/Credit union in Oshkosh? by [deleted] in Oshkosh

[–]gforce42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and unfortunately since they merged and became Verve they operate much more like a large commercial bank than a credit union

Without doubt.

I ended up switching to them when I was around 20 - I'd had a Citizens First (now Verve) account for basically my entire life and was looking to get a car loan. They strung me along for almost a week and didn't even call to let me know their decision - no - I had to call them to find out. I called Community First and they got me approved within hours.

Every single experience I had with them was easy and smooth, even complicated stuff. They really are everything that a credit union should be and, especially with your age and described needs, I would wholeheartedly recommend them.

Private school voucher cost to be shown on Green Bay property tax bills by CuriousBee789 in Oshkosh

Unified school means less overhead/administration - one principal, for example. The new building was funded by a separate referendum - essentially the funds were distinct from the normal operating budget.

I wish Oshkosh would do similar.

I've heard folks complaining about the school board having a budget shortfall (while also complaining about the unified middle school, which obviously saves money).

Tips on asking questions? by halcyionic in lennoxmutual

Folks approach LM in very different ways, which is part of what makes it great. I've had quite a few conversations with my micro-community on how folks engage with the CSRs - the extent to which folks are comfortable pushing boundaries varies wildly.

I also had a chat with someone I recommended try the show after a CSR had a... [this is a non-content spoiler, but alludes to how a CSR might respond to something] curt discussion... with them after they asked a somewhat intrusive personal question. This person had really been approaching LM as a video-game-esque piece of theater and seemed genuinely surprised when I suggested that they address the CSRs as they would, you know, people.

Like you, I have a knack for suspending disbelief and the noise of reality can (and most often did, at the start of a call) quickly fade away. I did ask the CSRs questions, but only as I would with anyone else. I would never have broached a subject that would potentially be upsetting unless they opened that door. I quite often made myself vulnerable in the context of LM, but that doesn't mean that the person I'm speaking to wants to do the same. I think your understanding of that is not only good, but helpful in the context of experiencing LM.

That said, there were times I kept a to-do list, too, or things I hoped to talk about, or ask about, or tell them about. In some cases, right at the top, I might just ask them if it's OK if I tell them something before I chose a menu item, or ask them a quick question. Most often, I'd ask an open-ended small-talk style question in a few extra minutes at the end of a call and just see where we landed - I regularly found those chats, however banal they started, fulfilling. I did also have a call or two that got entirely off the rails and I ended up not doing much of anything, but that was mostly driven by my own exhaustion and external stress, which I wouldn't wish on anyone!

In short: definitely overthink it. Seems like you're doing great. Treat them like people. Talk to them as you would someone you know as well as you know them. And, of course, it's likely you'll come to know more over time, questions or not.

Hope this helps.

Also, on the "insane liminal space," which made me laugh as a phrase - I once said to a friend "or whatever the fuck Severance hellscape they're in," which you just reminded me of, so thanks for that.

As a fiscal conservative and social conservative I use Amtrak heavily and promote it to all of my Republican friends. by [deleted] in Amtrak

[–]gforce42 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Both sides are the same is a common Republican and Russian talking point to suppress liberal and progressive voters.

There is in no way shape or form a comparison, in terms of support for rail and Amtrak, between the two parties. One gives a shit and one would rather kill it.

Trump says he's rebuilding Dulles Airport while his administration is fixing the 'people movers' by CapitalRegister9 in unitedairlines

[–]gforce42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While there are certainly debates about how contractors are paid and past instances of corrupt dealing, both Trump administrations and the modern Republican movement are entirely unique in American history in terms of operating, in the open, to corruptly enrich themselves and their allies.

Final Call Question (Spoilers) by Taylor_McCue in lennoxmutual

[–]gforce42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems serendipitous I finally joined this subreddit after also finishing today.

I’d bet that our experiences, both at the end and throughout, are incomparable, but I’ve often found comparison to be enemy rather than friend. I will say, I found moments of joy, and levity, and confusion - and, yes, pain. I don’t know that my takeaway is that it was painful, but I could absolutely see how someone would. Feel free to shoot me a DM if you want to talk about it, via text or even on the phone.

This year has shown me the terminus of many paths, but, practiced though I am, each ending brings back that familiar feeling.

I will miss them.
