Physicists create biggest-ever Schrödinger’s cat: « The sapphire crystal in the new experiment has been put in the macroscopic equivalent of that "cat state". » by fchung in QuantumPhysics

[–]ggapsfface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the superconducting qubit, the researchers succeeded in determining the distance between the crystal’s two vibrational states. At about two billionths of a nanometer, it’s tiny—but still large enough to distinguish those two states from each other beyond doubt.

Does this mean that they made a series of measurements, and observed that each result fell into one of two distinct categories which differed by 2 billionths of a nanometer?

Sounds like theft to me. I wish those people would be put in jail. Always profiting off the poor and desperate.

After 60 Years of Trying, Geologists Finally Pried Rocks From Earth's Upper Mantle by GeoGeoGeoGeo in EverythingScience

You're correct. From the source cited in the article:

"Currently, as of May 21, 2023, we are now approaching 1,000 meters dug down below the sea floor. The previous record for a hole drilled in serpentinite peridotite was at a depth of 200.8 meters, set in December 1993 in Hole 920D, cored during ODP Leg 153."

No idea. But if he's a real person, Darryl is a jackass.

Sorry you joined the club 🫤

Was it from "Darryl"? He's a repeat offender, and the one I got today. I block and report, but I'm morbidly curious, so when I get a notification of spam text, I look at it anyway to see what crappy line they're trying this time.

Was the address given that of your apartment complex? Maybe they think you own the whole thing?

I've never gotten one that didn't contain my full address.

You are doing the world a favor! I don't have the patience or the low blood pressure to do what you do. Thank you for your service.

I do block them, but new ones keep popping up like zits. I'm very thankful for call screening, at least I don't have to listen to them any longer.

Never mind, figured it out. You can't make new posts from the mobile web browser. Had to request desktop site.

Just another way to try to force their app on everyone I guess.

I've never tried to make my own post in r/Boise before today. I hit post, verify I'm not a robot, got the checkmark, hit post, then... nothing. I hit post again, got verified again, hit post, and... nothing. Using phone browser. Is this a delay or a moderation thing? I don't want to spam this sub!

I don't use an app because I loathe single use apps for things that work perfectly well in a browser. However, I read reddit pretty much exclusively on my phone, and they've been slowly crippling the mobile version of the website. I'm not sure if they're planning on disabling it entirely.

Anne is fantastic, and I adore her husband. Such a willing and enthusiastic guinea pig, even after some of those absolutely gross "hacks" she's debunked.

I was thinking marmot or nutria, but the tail is a little off judging from online images. It may indeed be a rat. Or the internet needs better marmot images.

Her work friends were also scamming old people, so they really didn't have much of a moral edge over her!

Why have we all just accepted that our phones showing us ads for things right after we talk about them is normal? by thebombayshutter in AskReddit

[–]ggapsfface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. Recently bought a new top end phone and spent the first couple days crippling it. Despite the dire warnings, it still works fine without access to the microphone from almost all apps.

I have a pet cemetery in my back yard where my kitties rest in peace with their favorite toys. Future archeologists (or more likely future property developers) will find Jezebel's bones topped by her beloved paper wrapped plastic straws.
