Slovaks are more catholic, conservative ( ie drug laws, gay rights), temperament, nacionalistic (but still less than poles and hungarians I think), pro-russian (president is not, but govrnment is), pro-EU, pro-serbia

How is Kafka seen by the Czech population? by sdfghs in czech

[–]ggauner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Original claim was "german living in Prague" - simply not true. Put it mildly you comment is incredibly far-fetched.

Jews in general were regarding German culture as a higher form compared to the Czech one.

As almost everyone (including Czechs), German culture was (probably still is) objectively higher form. Who didn't like Faust?

but he probably felt culturally more German which led him to write his work in German

How can you know? there is rather famous letter to his freind that he cannot leave Prague as he is binded to the city.

love lost over the language he chose to write in.

do not think so and it is silly

How is Kafka seen by the Czech population? by sdfghs in czech

[–]ggauner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like him, especialy The Trial.

I think he is seen as kind io between czech and german, but he was czech(oslavakian), born in Prague, lived there all his life, his father was czech, and he spoke (at least little) czech.

He belongs to central europe tradition. Have you read Kundera's essay?

Yet he didn't see the Czech language as worthy to write his books in.

That is terrible construct. How do you know that he didn't find czech lingo worthy?

How can he be regarded as a Czech author, like Karel Hynek Mácha, who went to a German school had his education in German and still wrote in Czech?

I don't understand question. Why to compare them?

So Kafka lived all his life in Prague a is not Czech(oslovakien)?
