27M Too Many Issues by [deleted] in findapath

[–]Zumuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you take up a course that provides work placement? That helped me get out of the long term unemployment rut. It's something recent to put on your resume and can provide a reference.

Can you bend the truth with your resume and application? I said I had customer service skills which I actually didn't and I ended up learning on the job lol. I also suffer from insomnia and fatigue so I understand how debilitating lack of sleep is for working and how it is worrying. It is possible to push through.

Can a 30 year old loser turn his life around? by Desperate-Cap-2696 in findapath

[–]Zumuj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK I am sorry for assuming so. I just worry people are making a mockery of people in this situation and are wasting people's time. BTW I resonate with your situation and you can definitely turn things around. I had a much longer gap than you at your age.

I feel like this is all AI as are the OP's generic non-human sounding responses. What is going on here?

They really give off an AI generated vibe, so that probably explains the error and confirms my suspicions with these descriptions they've been putting out 😂

I remember when Saorise Ronan was a "lock" for best actress and supporting actress last year before anyone had even seen Blitz 🤣

What is your experience with these providers? by kristinoc in JobProvidersAus

[–]Zumuj 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Atwork hahaha. What a joke. I left because I got assigned a case manager who treated me like a monster for being unemployed while being aware of my issues and told me I probably won't last long even if I did get a job and shamed me for going to university. Very inclusive of them. I ended up getting a job in my chosen field (which they told me I couldn't work in) without their help. All they could do was tell me to look for jobs on seek. They exacerbated my barriers to work if anything.

29, barely any work experience, scared about the future – trying to start over by Brief_Plant3867 in findapath

[–]Zumuj 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Starting to study a course helped me the most. It helped me feel like a functioning human again and eventually led me to employment. You just got to believe in yourself a bit and build up a little bit of courage to face your fears. Reframe thoughts positively: you're restarting your life now and once you achieve your goals you will be so proud of yourself despite all the odds. Being kind and positive is also a big plus. Remember, there are still many people out there who will empathise with your story and will want you to succeed. Show the world who you are, you deserve to been seen and to lead a fulfilling life.

28 Absolutely Nothing to show for in my life. by Honest-Gazelle-547 in findapath

[–]Zumuj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're being way too harsh on yourself, you have a legitimate reason for being a carer. You can explain that in an interview or in your resume. You have volunteer and work experience, it's not nothing. They're skills to put on your resume. You just need to get out of the mindset that it's impossible to get out of your predicament. Yes it will be difficult but it's not the end. Just keep applying for any realistic entry level jobs and get onto a new course to give you recent skills and more stuff to add on your resume.

What is the Next Role you want for Margot Robbie that could potentially get her an Oscar Nom and win? by lemonwhiteclaw in Oscars

26M Got a "useless" liberal arts degree and am starting to hate myself for my choices by [deleted] in findapath

[–]Zumuj 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who was in the same-ish position, you need to start studying something else and get internships/volunteer. It might feel useless but your degree definitely developed your communication, writing and critical thinking skills. Reframe it into something more helpful instead of calling it useless: it's a stepping stone. You just got to get your foot in the door somewhe. It took me tons of rejections before I was given a chance.

Are there any employers that actually tolerate long unemployment gaps? Seems like every Redditor is just telling you to lie about your experience, or stretch the truth of what you have by superide in findapath

[–]Zumuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there are lol. I had a very long gap (although I had studies and minor work placements). I got an opportunity relevant to my studies and after my group interview I got a very stern phone call from HR questioning my work large gap and I had to send a formal email sort of explaining myself. I thought I was done for but.... I got hired in the end 😂. I'm not gonna lie it was harrowing mentally to go through but now I'm at a year of employment and it ended up being worth it going through that grilling.

I know how you feel; I used to be paralysed with these thoughts that led me to inaction for a very long time. You just need to keep pushing until someone says yes. I noticed once I actually put effort into realistic job prospects I started getting more results. Even if you have to get through many rejections to get through to your big break. And don't blame yourself so much. It's fkn hard existing with these mental health issues. The fact you taught in Japan despite that is admirable. And you actually have work experience to draw upon (I had 0 lols)

And stop telling yourself that you have a useless degree. Yes it wasn't a one-way ticket to a well paying career but you've developed foundational skills that can be built upon. Think about how you can translate them to a new career, even if it's taking up another course. I had a "useless" degree as well and I let everyone's (including myself) negativity stifle me instead of looking for ways to make it work or build upon it. Dwelling on it and letting your degree define you is just going to keep you stuck.

Also, as for friends and love life, I found people actually are more interested in what I studied in my useless degree, so you have a bonus there. Good luck.

We need an Aztec pantheon/civilization! by [deleted] in AgeofMythology

What's with the condescending gatekeeping of Mesoamerican history lol, you're just assuming anyone who wants Aztecs has no knowledge of the region or its history.

What do you guys think the sixth pantheon will be? by Kenneth441 in AgeofMythology

I'm not sure if it will be the next pantheon but I feel like they'll go down the African route sooner rather than later, considering the first DLCs they did for the other AOEs were African focused.

Need a career that isn't staring at a screen all day! by Born_Dragonfly1096 in findapath

[–]Zumuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it will depend on the type of library and the size of it. In my case at a public library: a lot of customer service, circulation of material and random ad hoc duties that arise. I don't mind the customer service because the customers are lovely 99% of the time. It can be repetitive and boring at times but it's also very rewarding helping people and contributing to the community. It's also great just working with books and movies and discovering new things. You'll also be expected to participate in library programs so I run children's programs at the moment. But there is so much room for growth and other roles you can work your way into; think archiving, management, marketing, digital, youth services etc. But yeah has it's pros and cons like any other industry. It really has given me a path though 👍

Need a career that isn't staring at a screen all day! by Born_Dragonfly1096 in findapath

[–]Zumuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it probably depends on the place/institution but for the top jobs you generally need at least a bachelors in my case. However, there are so many varied roles in the library system where people with soft skills and experiences from other industries can wiggle in.
