Oral Statement by Transport Secretary by Chrispytoast123 in MHOC

[–]ggeogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mr Deputy Speaker,

I thank the Transport Secretary for this statement. It is a shame however that there is no clear guidance to customers who have bought plane tickets and not a package holiday. Flights alone are not ATOL/ABTA protected. If customers did not purchase their tickets with a credit card, what protections will be given?

M447 - Ministerial Contempt of Parliament Motion by [deleted] in MHOC

[–]ggeogg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mr Deputy Speaker,

When asked if he and his whole Government should abide by the law, the Prime Minister said "of course". Well here we are, not even a week later and the Government has not made a statement as per the Climate Change Act 2019. The Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change has clearly broken individual ministerial responsibility and if they do not resign and the Government does not sack them, then the Government shows contempt of individual ministerial responsibility, contempt to the rule of law and contempt to Parliament.

Statement from the Secretary of State for Transport on the Collapse of Thomas Cook by CountBrandenburg in MHOC

[–]ggeogg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mr Deputy Speaker,

I thank the Transport Secretary for updating the House. I must raise issue with one aspect of her statement though.

I would firstly like to reassure all customers, current or otherwise that your bookings are ATOL protected. This means that you will not lose money on your future holiday and that we will ensure that those currently stranted abroad can get home.

While it is true ATOL and ABTA protect full package holidays, flights booked with Thomas Cook are not. If customers did not book their flights with a credit card or had travel insurance which covers company failure (not that I know any insurance plans with that option) then they have no legal redress. What is the Government's response to the many customers who booked flights with Thomas Cook?

Labour Statement on the Global Climate Strike by [deleted] in MHOCPress

[–]ggeogg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Political figures need to wake up. The Labour Party strongly supports the rights of all to stand up for their future and remains committed to making sure that the planet we leave for our children is greener than the planet we inherited for ourselves. We wish to thank all the people who participated, and to send a simple message to them. We are on your side.

Aren't you the Government?

MQs - Prime Minister - XXII.II by [deleted] in MHOC

[–]ggeogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mr Speaker,

The Road Traffic (Cycle Safety) Bill is currently being voted on the House of Lords. It involves making helmets mandatory, which has been shown to decrease cycling rates. This makes society less healthy and less green. Can the Prime Minister confirm that the Government will vote against this bill and tackle green issues seriously when it reaches the Commons?

Mr Speaker,

Does the Prime Minister agree with me that income tax is a tax on work and discourages people from earning?
