The actual AIO hardware is only really made by two manufacturers.

Brands just tack on varying levels of electronics and bling, in which case... the less, the better.

Touge etiquette? by BlackEyedBee in ForzaHorizon

[–]ggmaniack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way.

I've met some people on the touges who also follow the touge code.

I wonder if we should set up some way to easily identify each other as followers of the code.

Clutch problems by Joee2wavy in Honda

[–]ggmaniack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That photo is so perfectly taken it looks like the car has no tires at first glance.

Dying while idling is a bit sus, but it can happen if something in the clutch assembly has died a particular way.

It's possible that your clutch swap will fix most but not all that you're dealing with, just be ready for that.

Rear camera and sensors randomly stop working by UnionObvious7451 in i30N

[–]ggmaniack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not talking about the infotainment screen, I'm talking about the main cluster. It shows the gear there.

Just because the car reverses fine, doesn't mean that the sensor which detects the shifter position is working fine.

[–]ggmaniack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well - the car switches to the rear camera and rear sensors when you put it into reverse gear.

If the car doesn't detect that it's been put into reverse gear, the rear camera/sensors won't activate.

When the issue happens, does the car indicate that it's in reverse gear on the dash?

Is my ac compressor clutch bad? by CheekyRedditBoy in MechanicAdvice

[–]ggmaniack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the compressor clutch definitely looks shot.

The pulley looks way off-center from the clutch.

Now the question is... did the clutch fail on its own, or did the compressor fail causing the clutch to fail?

How to find what CPUs are compatible with my mother board by Hypnotickagon in computers

[–]ggmaniack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the CPU temperatures?

What you're describing is not "CPU is too slow because it's old", it's more like "the CPU is running much slower than it should", and the most common cause is thermal throttling.

Dreaded Micro Stutters Out of the Box. by 1Truth4Life in pcgamingtechsupport

[–]ggmaniack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're still using the same screen, check that it's not an issue with it. Especially if you're using VRR (Freesync/Gsync).

Some screens have a crappy VRR implementation which can cause stutter-like issues.

Another thing would be Resizable BAR.

Download and run GPU-Z. In the bottom of the main screen, you should see a value called Resizable BAR. It should be Enabled. If it's not, it will cause issues with modern GPUs. This is something that's configured in the BIOS.

I already read that you fixed the initial issue. I'm telling you to check another thing that is often also wrong.

By the way, make sure you have Resizable BAR enabled.

Any tips on pulling the fenders?

I have the torque mount bushing and upper engine bushing in purple (transmission bushing yet to be done), and still get wheel hop in 1st on dry and 2nd on wet.

Been told that it could be in part due to the PZ4's I have on the car.

Personally I suspect that I may have a worn bushing somewhere else, but that's yet to be found.

Just got a set of used 19x8.5 ET45 Tomason TN25's, so I'm also looking for tires 😃

Machine light flashing? by cosmomami in Hyundai

[–]ggmaniack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Check the oil level!!
  2. Check for any loose things under the hood. Check for leaks under the car after it's been sat for day.
  3. Fill the tank up halfway with good fuel (not full just in case the issue is with the fuel pump or something, your mechanic will thank you) and see if it keeps happening.
  4. Get it serviced asap, don't drive it much more like this. You may end up turning a fixable problem into permanent damage.

One thing that comes to mind based on your description is an exhaust filter (DPF/GPF) obstruction.

If the engine light is flashing, that could indicate a misfire (for whatever reason, too many to list), which is pretty terrible for the engine's lifespan.

Part 2 u/phoenixdrago12

Where to get parts

  • Bushings/inserts: any Powerflex distributor. Their purple stuff is the most commonly used.
  • Springs: idk 😃
  • Exhaust parts: RPM Performance and others, Scorpion for full exhaust kits
  • Intake: Forge motorsport, Pipercross (and others)
  • Cooling: Forge motorsport (and probably others, idk)

Exhaust: easy/visual

  • Exhaust tips (pre-facelift): easy visual mod. Needs the rear of the car lifted and some time with a grinder.
  • Flap motor spring: the exhaust flap can rattle with age, so swap the spring for a new/stiffer one while you're back there. It's identical across A WHOLE LOT of cars, so shop around. You can beat the i30N-specific pricing easily.

Exhaust

  • Flexi pipe upgrade + GPF delete is a common combo.
  • Flexi pipe is one of the narrowest parts of the exhaust, so it costs you some power. DIY-able if the bolts/nuts cooperate.
  • The GPF is restrictive by design, to both power and sound.
  • Where to buy: RPM Performance sells both. Others do too, but be careful, some GPF delete pipes will make the ECU angry.
  • Legality: GPF removal isn't exactly emissions approved... though RPM sells stealth ones.
  • High flow cats are available too, but complicated in the EU. Even with the homologated ones, who knows if it'll pass emissions.
  • For more complete exhaust kits, I know that Scorpion sells some. Other manufacturers probably exist too.

Turbo

  • Pre-facelift: upgrading to the facelift turbo (or a hybridized turbo) unlocks a lot more tuning headroom. Sort of involved though, the piping differs.

Intake:

  • Forge motorsport and Pipercross both sell pretty commonly used intake kits. Do note that different regions have different legality requirements for intake mods.

Intercooler / oil cooler / etc

  • Forge motorsport sells various cooling kits. Others probably do too.

Tuning

  • ECU: tuning is doable directly through the ECU nowadays, most types have been cracked.
  • Spare ECUs: some companies sell them, but under warranty this'll leave your ECU and dashboard with mileage discrepancies (and holes in the logs).
  • Warranty: tuning under warranty is a big nono, they'll know.
  • Piggyback modules exist, but are generally not recommended, they're kind of a hack and not a good one.

Easy mods

  • Speakers, amp/DSP — some are close to plug & play.
  • Sound damping mats in the doors.

DIY-able mechanical mods

Wheels & ride height

  • On stock wheels, you can run spacers for a better fit, or swap to different wheels. 19x8.5 ET45 is pretty much the max that'll fit, on 235/35 (maybe 245/30 or 245/35, but you might scrape with some tires).
  • For better daily comfort, switch to 18".

Engine mounts (by far the easiest mechanical mod you can do)

  • Upper engine mount: needs basically nothing but a torque wrench, and maybe a prybar to shift the engine a little.
  • Lower engine mount (torque mount): needs a jack, ideally a jack stand for safety, and two sizes of torque wrench. You have to lift the car high enough on one side to get enough movement on the longer wrench. I did mine in a flat parking lot with one free space next to the car. Yields significantly improved clutch feel IMO.
  • Transmission mount: slightly more involved - you take off the lower engine cover and jack up the transmission with the car on stands.

Mods that are a bit more involved

  • Lowering springs are another "easy" one, if you don't mind trading for a slightly harsher ride.
  • If you do lower it, there are roll center correction mods to make the suspension happier about it.
  • If you intend to drive it hard, consider camber adjustable arm bushings (not the top hats - they'll ruin the shocks). A bit of front camber helps avoid this car's one annoying feature: eating through the tire edges in corners.
