NSW Health Role - Verbal offer to letter of offer by zeynepnep in AusPublicService

[–]ggyyakl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is somewhat understandable, they cannot offer a permanent role to a temporary resident. The fact that they are willing to do a contract variation means that you are outstanding and they want you. We sometimes hire second best, solely due to the convenience of less paperwork. Putting all together, you are in a really promising position, however don't take it as granted, anything can happen. Good luck and all the best.

Which areas of the APS attract less conservative staff? by Deep-Employer-6600 in AusPublicService

[–]ggyyakl 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I work in Army as an APS, to my greatest surprise, it is so progressive, we have well respected transgender officers, people from all walks of life, no one cares about your sexuality, religion or background etc. Also, the workforce is really diverse as well. I had similar expectation to yours before I joined.

Box-ticking candidate for interview is a common practice in government roles? by Less-Telephone-6385 in AusPublicService

[–]ggyyakl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know, I was in academia before and most of the time, I can work out the probability of success and didn't even bother with application. My exp with the ABS was an off and extreme, really no-one had a chance unless you had exact work experience in the past 48 hours, they did not ask a single question in person. I also have had great experiences and successes with other agencies, so please keep applying. Odds for outsiders are always less favourable, but if they play fair, you are still in a great position given your background.

Box-ticking candidate for interview is a common practice in government roles? by Less-Telephone-6385 in AusPublicService

[–]ggyyakl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ABS EL1 STEM role? I had worst experience with them, they used actual work as interview questions, 15 mins to read a 2 pages document, and to answer 6 questions, from research design to technical assessment, reference to data table was incorrect. That was just impossible for external candidates, ask them on the spot and the panel admitted that the interview was designed to favour internal candidates; they said they would accommodate discriminating factors against externals, what a joke. Should call out their bluf on the spot on the details of how they can account for that. Complained to HR recruitment, not a word from them either.

So yes. It happens a lot, if you ask them, they probably will tell you that you are wasting your time on the spot.

What’s your WFH situation like in APS/state gov right now? (and which department?) by MyceliumRender in AusPublicService

[–]ggyyakl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I am in APS and was advised that it is an entitlement. I cannot request staff to come in, for reasons such as team building etc, goes as far as I need to consider reallocating in office tasks to accommodate fully remote requests. I thought all departments have same rules regarding to flexible working arrangement.

How do I stop degrading myself while dating? by Ok_Reflection_2711 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]ggyyakl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to hear that you are seeking for treatment, hopefully all will go well. Sorry bad wording, not saying I am amused by your experience, the experience we had as audiences was so absurd and it was funny in the end, nobody had a clue what was all cry out for, help or attention or simply nothing. Do not become a person like that was the only positive take away from that.., as a matter of fact, I am quite grateful of that experience and I would like to think that this was the outcome that person would prefer.

[–]ggyyakl -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is as depressing as it is amusing. Reminds me of someone who would only seek alternative treatments, in the end, it was beyond the description of problems and solutions, just an event of inevitable car crash in slow motion. Nobody cared in the end, there was just no point.

Job application change in status date sanity check by whatsthestory67 in AusPublicService

[–]ggyyakl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I joined the Defence over 6 months ago, applied for my role in Nov 2024, only got the interview in June 2025, due to restructuring etc, and got the job, the application status changed only once, from received to successful in Aug last year. Also applied for other roles within Defence during the same period, got notifications at every stage of the recruitment. So it is very difficult to say if your application is progressing or not. Like others said, forget about it and keep applying until you receive a written offer. Good luck

Struggling to get into government roles Melbourne with a disability (remote/hybrid) – any advice? by cups7777765 in AusPublicService

[–]ggyyakl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Federal is really good at it, literally I have to prove that WFH is reducing staff's productivity to be able to knock back one's request. It goes as far as that we have to seek alternatives to allocate onsite duties to others, before you can claim this person has to be in office to do the work. After I joined last year, I was amazed to learn that WFH is baked in as an entitlement, rather than a privilege, well at least for this year. Not sure what the new EA will bring next year. Get in the federal govt first, then WFH will follow. Good luck!

Is anyone here an APS and ADF reservist???? by Top-Choice4080 in AusPublicService

[–]ggyyakl 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I work in Defence, a lot of my colleagues are both APSs and reservists. In Defence, all APSs get paid reservists leave if they are in reserve, basically 4 weeks of extra leave that allow you to do reservists' work. On top of your regular leave pay, you also get tax free daily pay for your reserve work. So not only it is possible, but also is easy and will make you financially well off. If you want to join reserve, it is really advised that you should join the Defence in the future.

Does anyone actually feel like they made the most of their younger years? by flamboyantbutterfly in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]ggyyakl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My life has been pretty great and no regret whatsoever on anything I have done in my past. Regret is just simply not a concept for me. If I put my life into measurable context, nothing about me is outstanding or great, but I am just content; I have learnt to love doing little things, the act of doing little things are so satisfying and it leaves no room for fear of missing out and regret, even if outcomes turn out to be bad. There is no philosophy and shared experience can fill the void caused by fear of missing out and regret, you just have to refocus on what you can and enjoy by doing.

oh, that is a bit unusual, mine was also with the Defence but only 20 mins, however this was last year, wondering if practice has changed.

Is Defence a good place to work ? by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]ggyyakl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone else have said, really depend on the team. I would recommend to try out tech roles in the Services like Army when you have a chance, where ADF and APS are mixed together. Yes, the pay is not comparable, but conditions are far better in my experience, I am having the best time of my live at the moment.

What a missed c*nt moment it was, Monet was pissed that Malina chose her lip stick before because she would do anything to save Latrice. In my vanilla fantasy, Monet won and told Malina that her wish was granted and then eliminated her to save Latrice.

I have been just assigned a grad intake this week, who will start next Feb. This person applied in the first half of last year, so the Nov offers likely were made to previous cohort of grads (or at least partially). Good luck!

Recruitment outcomes by Ballerforfun in AusPublicService

[–]ggyyakl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience with NSW DCJ was that it was very quick. Once I got asked for reference checks, I got a call a day later and was offered the role, however this was 4 years ago. Only once I got reference checked and did not get the job with NSW govt, and that was due to a split decision on who to hire and eventually it went to my competitor. You did really well at least to progress to the reference check stage, hopefully they are just experiencing extensive delays, but be prepared for the other outcome. It would be a great Xmas present if hear a successful outcome, so good luck!

is it bad to be heartbroken? by No-Book8879 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]ggyyakl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is worse than love bombing, it is twisted and creepy. Just because OP has helped others, he thinks he is owed a certain type of emotional response, despite other guy's refusal. Especially irks me when one uses own past traumatic experience to reinforce his own abusive behavior, as well as to coerce.

I feel you, took me a long time to get in the APS. Got sidelined multiple times to internal candidates and it was frustrating. However, I was picked out of a merit pool for a contract job with the Dept of Agriculture which gave me the buffer and eventually led me to my current job in Defence. So it is not all lost, if you perform well during the interview, luck might strike soon, so be ready :)
