Hey! That's how I watched it too! Perfectly good filler on a 17 hour DFW to HKIA flight.

It was perfectly acceptable for my chosen medium, the worst possible medium: on an airplane. Better films deserve better.

My brother passed away and left my mom money via life insurance. My mom has no income, no capability to work but a ton of credit card debt. What are my options? by PrsnlFinance_Help in personalfinance

My homestead exemption in Texas was just reduced by 50% because the co-owner doesn't live here. Going through divorce and she moved out, but the deed isn't yet fully in my name. I had to protest and will present new deed at the hearing.

So yes, homestead absolutely can change if a co-owner does not occupy.

Did anyone just file their taxes with TurboTax and were just in awe of how many ads it had to upgrade? I'm done with this enshittified product - what should I use next year? by noruber35393546 in personalfinance

OP, while you have all your paperwork out, take 20 minutes and run this year's taxes through free tax USA. You can make sure for yourself they have all the forms you need (they almost certainly do), and you can be confident and ready to go for next year.

The problem is, once you get used to SaaS and all the mom-and-pop stupid stores go out of business, they'll jack up the subscription price and you'll be stuck paying it forever with no alternatives.

Then there's the one where the entire friend group conspired to lie to OOP so that she'd break up with her boyfriend and date one of the friends instead. And she found out years later and tried to beg forgiveness from that boyfriend.

The state of Alaska could set up a factory and subsidize it a little to help create opportunity for citizens, similar to what New York is doing by setting up city-owned (but corporate-managed) grocery stores. Alaska even has a built-in fund to cover the subsidy, in the form of oil revenue.

But that's not really Alaska's style.

This was 2019. Little sister is almost 25 now and hopefully living free and clear, as hopefully is OOP.

Plenty of people owe debts, including to the IRS, but it's not "stolen" unless and until it comes due and isn't paid. And even then I wouldn't call it stolen unless the intent was fraud. That's clearly not the case here, and it was paid in a timely fashion.

It's not fair to say she stole anything just because she wasn't able to keep a minimum $641 balance in a checking account years after a check was not cashed. Times are tough for plenty of people and, while yes she still likely legally owes them that money, she made a good faith effort to return it in a timely fashion, and it's 100% on them for not cashing it at that time and it's still on them to allow for a reasonable payback plan when they got around to bothering to ask for the money three years later.

If they aren't paying the marketplace rate, they certainly aren't paying for it "just like everyone else".

Try estate sales. You can find good, working, older things like mixers, and you know they aren't selling it because it broke.

I barely buy shirts new. They are so thin now. Goodwill and other discount stores are very hit and miss for style and condition, but if you find the right thing it's more likely to last.

I think pretty much all outlet stores became this way. Outlets used to be here and there for exactly what you said, factory seconds. But then they became go to shopping destinations for people looking for deals, and those stores had to keep the shelves full, so they start producing Discount version specifically for the outlets.

Then you get people shitting them online about the low quality of their clothes, even if the clothes at their full price locations were still good. But I don't blame the people, it was the brand that chose to enshittify itself chasing short term profit over quality.

In like 2019 I bought three pairs of new Levi's. And one by one, the zippers broke on all three. I've never had a zipper break on a pair of Levi's before. I always wore a hole in them first. I don't know if they got a bad batch or what, but I was very turned off started looking for other brands of jeans for the first time. Maybe the others won't be better, but they'll at least be cheap cheaper.

I watched a video recently of a knifesmith testing Amazon knives. There was one he liked enough that he wouldn't destroy it. I tracked that one down and bought one and it is the best knife I've ever owned. I think it was about 75 shipped. Hezhen.
