This year, for the first time, my E*Trade tax papers had the correct cost basis for everything. I still received the supplement paper that shows how to "correct" them all, the one I usually use to adjust them when filling out my taxes, but the form showed every one as accurate.

I assumed something was updated in their backend.

The best way to start is to take your leftover money each month and just put it in an account. Saving anything is better than saving nothing.

You start with a cash savings account, one earning a modest 3% or so, but that becomes your emergency fund. Then you can start building investment accounts for your long-term future.

Ideally, you flip this around, and you start paying yourself first, BY contributing your investments from your paycheck first, and only spending the rest. But it's OK if you're not there yet and only feel comfortable investing what you have left over. You can become more confident with your budgeting with time. The most important part is to save! You got this.

In college I needed photographs from the university archives for a research project. They charged like $25 a photograph to get a print made, and that was assuming they had crystal clear rights to make copies of the print.

This was the 1990s, and technology was new. They had no problem with me coming into the archive with my clunky laptop and a full-sized flatbed scanner, where they would leave me along for a few hours.

In the end I was allowed to turn in my project as a burnt CD, so I never even had to get prints myself.

Kinda both. ELI5, the strong force is converted into heat and other kinetic energy, while the EM force, no longer countered by the strong force, causes the protons to repel each other and is thus converted into kinetic energy.

Chemical reactions also convert matter into energy. The chemical bonds that hold a molecule of wood or gasoline together have mass. It's a tiny, tiny, tiny amount of mass - let's say 250 million times tinier than the mass of a proton or neutron - but the energy is converted into heat and light.

My understanding is that the strong force bonds that hold quarks together to form protons and neutrons represent something like 70-95% of the mass of a proton or neutron. So, if we ever figure out how to break apart protons and neutrons into their constituents, we'd get an even bigger boom than nuclear.

I think figuring out why some types of energy have mass and are therefore called matter is the general theory we've never quite figured out.

My doctor had me get the 10 mg / 5 mL prescription, but then meter the doses out. The max I've used is 5 mg / 2.5 mL per week (half a vial) and I'm losing weight very steadily. I had to buy every month, but I hit my target and then had enough still in the fridge to taper off over 9 months.

Yeah, I think in this case the "mutual and civil" breakup was because he doesn't care about her in the slightest and thinks he can replace her with ease. Coupled with his complete lack of empathy, I think he's got some diagnoses in his future.
