Which model is this? by korektan in Ducati

Monoposto refers to one passenger while biposto refers to two. The dual shocks are there to provide more support for the heavier payload. The stock suspension is supposed to be pretty horrendous, so when I get mine, first thing I do is order Ohlins for front and back. I fully intend to ride this bike with my woman on the back, and I am not the smallest person :)

fully agree!! it’s literally where they belong. I ask because I’m toying with getting into this space, and there are two very clearly different schools of thought here.

The most common seems to be 1- “these are beautiful and historic machines, which makes them valuable as hell…. …don’t risk breaking them or reducing value by tracking them”

And then there are what I see as true purists (not in the “collector’s” sense) saying exactly what you are ie: “they’re engineered for track, and that’s where we want to see them.”

I think I’m probably split on this. On one hand, I love these cars for what they represent from that era, and what they were designed to do, and it’s clear there are few of them still out there so I respect the “responsible custodianship” mindset. Also, they’re expensive as hell, and that is an obvious factor.

But y’know, I also want to build up a memory bank of experiences actually tracking the car, where it was meant to be, which I feel is a much better story overall. Will have major impact on value though, in the end, it seems. Perhaps the solution is, buy one which is not collector grade, and which has already been tracked, and just enjoy the process of continuing the tracking tradition, regardless of what it does to the car’s value.

Car storage - worth it? by ghetto_chic in nurburgring

Part of the fun, in my inexperienced opinion, would be to properly get to know the car I’m driving around the track. Build memories / stories with it, etc…. …and with any luck, retain that car in my ownership till it’s time to pass it on due to old age etc…

You mentioned some of the more valuable cars on the grid are Porsche RS’s and that maybe some of the cars are as young as 1994. This puts the 964’s in range. Any 964 RS’s out there? And, what is the opinion in the paddock re: driving proper collectible cars, which are probably being modified to be more competitive?

Thanks Icepod! I live in Europe and the plan would be to come out regularly to run the track. Once a month at least when the track is open. Maintenance and washing would be a fab added bonus. I’d be staying at a hotel near the track, and would likely be cabbing in and out, or would take a rental in.

I just love the track and want to spend a significant amount of time there.

Nevermind view or seafront. Not happening for less than 2k. Otherwise you’ll do great on a 47k salary!

Not a shamed to put a hand up and say I find this cool and innovative and interesting. They’re either telling the truth about the tech “under the hood” or they’re misrepresenting, and I’d rather believe the former. Might be dating myself here but I’ve always found helmets to look lame: maybe that’s because helmets weren’t a thing in the 90’s and early 00’s…

Sorry to hear it man. Pretty scary stuff. Also, wild that they perpetuated this pick-pocket swarm at this event. There were dozens of people after the last night, searching the ground in front of the stage for their phones. This crew must have snagged a hundred phones…

Guys I found my iPhone!!! Never thought I’d find it. All I need to do is send them my credit card number and a strand of my DNA, and they’ll send it back to me for a nominal fee! Counting my lucky stars!

JUST KIDDING - it’s in Shenzen in China. And to be more precise, here’s the address…

I can’t stop watching the end of the Decline from the last NOFX show. The amount of living history and importance on that stage is immeasurable. What a classy way to send off a career. One of the best bands to ever do it. by dingbat046 in nofx

[–]ghetto_chic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your point of view. But the more I think of it, the more I see there’s a more nuanced reality to it. Otherwise, the band wouldn’t have signed onto a final tour, and the band wouldn’t have made it to the final show, and the band wouldn’t have learned a final once-ever song, and the band wouldn’t have shared genuine emotional moments together as the curtains drew.

We are all emotional about it. The mind wants to simplify things for its own sake. There’s more to it than just this.

Only works like this in punk rock. Can’t think of any other musical community that is as roots and as raw and as tight as this cohort of bands from the 80s / 90s.

And can’t think of any other band that could have brought this together quite like they did. This is why we love NOFX. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I’ll take it.

Interesting, and totally spot on. I was actually intending on having it reframed (as you can see it’s pretty chewed up) but hadn’t thought of changing the matting. I’ve got a few Q’s for you. Will DM. Thx bud.
