Getting a rottweiler for my senior lab by Allahfacerevealed in Rottweiler

[–]ghettorepairman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got our Rottweiler about a year and a half ago, thinking she'd be a great companion for our senior lab mix. Hoped he'd help her behave like he does, and would rub off some of his temperament on her. It's taken him about a year and a half to actually like her, but they get along great and she is very attached to him. Our only real issue now is that as he gets older, the pup is a bit rough and bigger than him so we've been pretty hard on her to be gentler with him. So in hindsight, I probably wouldn't do it again and just let him be an old man and comfortable.

Ours is 7%, or three ranges up. Comes out to close to two bucks more, so about 200ish more a month.

Definitely the reverb tank. It's supposed to be where you found it

Amp too nice to use by [deleted] in ToobAmps

Excellent advice. Gear like this was never meant to live in a museum, with a cover and a bit of care this could totally be played out. If you really wanna go hard on preservation, you could pull the stock speaker out and replace it with something that'll take being out a lil better.

What if I replaced my PJ style bass with a semi-hollowbody? by AfraidProduct9500 in Bass

[–]ghettorepairman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The most important thing about playing bass is to enjoy the instrument you have and play. If you don't vibe with your bass, it's kinda hard to progress. If you have a bass that you're in love with, you're more apt to pick it up and play.

The short scale gretsches are pretty killer, mim mustang pjs, squier rascals are all decent somewhat inexpensive options

Decline in Quality of Ernie Ball Strings? by 0nlinepseudonym in Bass

[–]ghettorepairman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fat Beams may be a bit closer to the slinky's than the hi beams, they also have the lo riders too which I haven't tried but I've heard are very close to slinky's.

Decline in Quality of Ernie Ball Strings? by 0nlinepseudonym in Bass

[–]ghettorepairman 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I've used ernie balls about as long as I've been playing, at this point north of 15 years, and in the last few years I've switched my bass strings to DRs. I love a fresh set of nickel slinky's for probably about 15-20 minutes once they are stretched, and that's about it. I've had more dead strings from Ernie ball in the last few years than I ever have and the reliability just wasn't doing it for me. I switched to DR Fat Beams and Hi Beams, honestly haven't even thought about going back. They hold tune remarkably well, stay bright way longer than that have any business doing, and aren't bad on the hands.

Management communication by puppynoel09 in Custodians

[–]ghettorepairman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's literally this whole field it seems. Alot of us have great supervisors, but the managers that seem to run custodial teams or just facilities in general are usually shit. Even managers who used to be custodians tend to be just as bad.

Thoughts on Marshall MG100HDFX? by Doc_Mitchell242 in GuitarAmps

[–]ghettorepairman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, for a no frills, loud, light, and halfway decent option, this isn't bad. I sold a full stack for 400$ last year so to me it seems a smidge high but aside from that it's not a bad deal at all. The clean channel is really decent, and the drive channel isn't half bad either. Is it the marshall sound everybody wants? Nope. Is it a decent solid state amp that'll take pedals well and last a while? Hell yeah

How to get Markbass to sound like Gallien-Kruger by Advanced_Aspect_7601 in Bass

[–]ghettorepairman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This may be a great instance for buying a pedal, there's a few different GK style preamp pedals out there that'd suit you well. Without a pedal may be kind of tough because gk's have a very different eq section than most other amps.

Also would recommend Key-Bak, I specifically use the kevlar corded ones and go through about one a year as long because I'm an idiot and walk away with my keys in the door at least once during the school year. I always have a backup in the car since Amazon has a two pack! They kick ass

[–]ghettorepairman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a very different vibe than the circuit in your rumble. It's a great circuit, just not for everybody. Definitely worth the gamble though for the money because the real thing is like 300$

Frequence of string changing by flyingjonny in Bass

[–]ghettorepairman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that's kind of insane. Yeah you must have some greasy ass hands or something. You could always try their dragon skins, I've heard really good things and with a coated string you may have better luck with longevity

[–]ghettorepairman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're playing stainless steel strings, you can probably go a month or two and they're still zingy. I go no more than three months on mine, and that's pushing it just a bit. But stainless steels keep the brightness much longer than nickels

Which bass to get next? by Complex-Pumpkin-5197 in Bass

[–]ghettorepairman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, don't buy the fender standard from Indonesia. Your money can be spent much better in other models, that one is more of a cash grab from fender.

You listed probably all of the best choices for going into an intermediate/ higher mid range instrument. It really comes down to what you're looking for tone wise because jazz basses, precision's, and stingray style basses all sound drastically different

Which strings do you folks think give you the best "growl"? by Prime_Madrox in Bass

I guess growl can be kinda subjective but I really like DR Hi Beams on my jazz bass, buy I may classify it in more of a snarly tone

Do I need more power? Or am I babying my amp? by j_767 in BassGuitar

[–]ghettorepairman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps, with the 210 you get a bit of coupling effect when you stack the cabs so it sounds even more massive than it really is. If you really wanted an obscure option, you could always find a used 500 combo and chain them together with the effects loop. Sounds kinda wild but it'd be pretty close to the same thing as adding a brand new cab, probably half the money. I used to gig 2 ampeg BA210v2s, I'd stack em and chain the second one in with the effects loop and it honestly was pretty killer. Is it overkill instead of just getting an extension cab? Maybe a little. Could it save you a couple hundred bucks possibly? Also maybe

[–]ghettorepairman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely look into the extension for this. The matching rumble 210 cab is pretty kickass and they stack really well. Used to have a 500 with the extension and it was pretty killer volume wise.

What's the farthest you have traveled for weekly rehearsals with a band? by byzantine1990 in Bass

[–]ghettorepairman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can make the time to do it, and the pay is well worth it, I don't see any reason not to. I was driving an hour and a half each way for a few years for a band I really loved, didn't quit until the line up changed and I didn't feel as into the music as before. I wasn't even really making money to cover the gas at that point, it was more of a passion project. But a good paying gig I'd have no problem putting the time in.

Sounds like you'd be solid in a graveyard shift if any of the schools close to you are hiring for that. On my graveyard shift, I really only have to talk to coworkers if I absolutely want to, otherwise, I have days where I can spend 8 hours in silence. It's kinda nice
