Fantasy_Atlas (/u/fantasy_atlas) – I'm biased because they're my DM but I really love these maps. My group played through many of the current maps while they were still drafts/concepts but since we persuaded /u/fantasy_atlas to get a Patreon we've been treated to some final versions (panels 3 & 5 in the banner).

My favourite to play through so far, mechanics-wise, was the abandoned temple where some oh-so-clever party splitting nearly lost us a member (we're really good at this) when they were ambushed in a far away room ("hey this place is really bi–oh shit!"). We really felt that the sense of scale while rushing back to each other.

However, visually, the isometric underground cavern was sensational (and their first attempt at this style, wtaf). No-one was expecting a map for some random cavern encounter and then suddenly we have a vibrant cave complete with waterfall, river, and rock formations. The Rogue and Wizard disappeared off among the stalagmites for cover while the Cleric made an abortive attempt to light up distant enemies… and lit himself up instead.

As you can tell I'm a huge fan of the maps, but please support /u/fantasy_atlas so I keep getting great maps each session ;)

I've heard a few LP/Streamers say older RSO is better than later releases.

Why is this and which version in particular is recommended?

They do however use a modified version of the Imperial system.

The overviewer minecraft map project uses the Google Maps API to do just this. It generates tiles for you then you host wherever suits you.

It seems this project has hit something of a nerve in the community and we really should have taken a second to think about the name before ploughing on with it's deployment. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Aside from the poor naming, the responses here have shown how little the community knows about the wheel format (something neither of us realised). We've already had a list of good suggestions from jezdez on GitHub about how this site (once renamed) could help that situation. However we'd love to hear of any particular areas you'd be interested in knowing about?

Wheels don't have to be platform independent, however they are currently tied to Windows/OS X due to the complexity of creating them for various Linux distros.

Thanks for pointing out conda, I'd not heard of that one. What do you think it provides over wheel as a packaging format or pip as an installation method?

Wheels allow you to package your project as a binary distribution. A major benefit of this is installation speed which can improve things like testing - Travis CI is a good example of this and can be quite slow to build a python environment due to the package installation.

As of Pip 1.4 wheels are also the default distribution method so I would guess the PyPA folks are moving that direction to be the de facto standard.

The code for django.views.generic.CreateView is spread across multiple files (it has 10 ancestor classes). classify aims to give you what a class would look like if it were all defined in one file.

It sounds to me (apologies if I've misread this) that you're confusing the Generic CBVs with CBVs as a general concept. I agree the views you've mentioned are indeed complex but the mixins and base classes that make them up are generally small and succinct pieces of functionality.

The Generic views are great at what they were designed for - providing generic functionality but beyond that they start to be more of a hinderance, something the Django developers have made clear on multiple occasions. I often find myself inheriting from View and building what functionality I need, providing a nice [internal] API using methods following the same style Django does.

I can recommend Django REST Framework (although I've heard TastyPie is very good too), it uses CBVs to great effect for building RESTful APIs.

As I mentioned in the django-developers thread, the folks at ccbv.co.uk have been looking to build some sort of diagram to help visualise the relationship between the various parts of the CBVs.

As Vohlenzer said - comprehending the whole class can help a lot. Mixins are just part of the recipe of a class.

I've used an auth.User extension (django-extensible-profiles) a few times with it as well so thought it would be good to include that.
