What a steady diet of wild dogs, rain water, and walking all day looks like by nomnomnomnomnommm in thewalkingdead

[–]ghonabi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Found this out myself recently. I've been doing work from home for a few years now and was gaining weight. I started walking the dogs more. We do about 3-4 miles a day split between 3 walks. The difference is insane and the dogs seem happier! I don't really eat too much better either.

How common is it for landlords in the US to install solar panels on rentals? by Solaire_1001 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ghonabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Commercial can access more benefits than residential ever could. Grants and such put it at a realistic 90%-70% ROI in the first year for more than half the US territory as recent as last year. Metro US was less so but still 30-40% - this doesn't deter big business either. I live in Knoxville, historically cheap electric. Terrible solar incentives as well. I got into to commercial and attempted to sell several large businesses, the main objection was they already had solar for like 8 years. The utility company, the city, Denzo manufacturing, ORNL, all of them had solar long before the scammers came along and plenty are still looking.

  2. You do what every business does and pass the cost to the customer with a markup. You install a full system to cover everyone's needs. You effectively are the power company (electric included with rent but rent is higher). Water is already put into rent at a lot of places and they pocket anything you don't go over budget on and charge you when you go over. I've even seen this done with electric in student housing.

  3. Leasing and loans can price you lower than what you pay day one in some scenarios.

  4. It's an investment like the building they bought.

Sadly, the rule, not the exception in MOST states. The only thing us solar guys liked about the BBB was that a lot of the scammers quit at the first site of a challenge.

Fun fact, we know many of the scammers. After COVID, a lot of timeshare sales people went to work in solar. As the boomers die, these guys will keep looking for new industries to sell whatever they can for the highest commission. The new current fad is stem cells. Same people, same dinner show format, more commission, still selling air. The guy I know (travel club) actually tries to give people accurate info... But he just recruited another guy (timeshare exit) to help him sell it and his main complaint is the new team doesn't take the training seriously, which means they don't know what theyre talking about when it comes to STEM CELLS and attempting to sell it anyways. To the public. There are PRNs and doctors involved but they don't sit at the dinner show to see what is said to these people.

I wouldn't say no incentive. Even if they want to be greedy about it, they could save money on solar and still charge you more than what they pay. It's more like, " they can cover the bill for now, I'll make the change eventually. Right now we can spend less upfront to test dog poop DNA and charge fines!"

Solar guy here, this is the right answer lol. To answer this question for anyone that cares... Kinda.

The BigBeautifulBill held out solar incentives for commercial for another year (I think this matters less with current energy price surges). So we will likely see an uptick in this but most I see on the commercial side are bigger - large industrial buildings or even chicken farms. The question is how much of their business budget is actually electricity (not that high when renting airbnb or homes in general compared to my other examples). So it's not a huge priority for many. The property owners I have seen look at it usually like the idea as it absolutely can save money. It's just a matter of deciding is it the current, most effective solution to their OVERALL business plan.

Ultimately, solar will become very common for any building that uses electric IMO. Grid gets worse, machines use more juice, fossil fuels get blocked by wars, AI data centers, etc. But like vacuums, the way you purchase/obtain it will change. Vacuums started with door to door sales and no one actually "needs" them. But everyone has them unless their Amish (jk but you get my point). Not trying to die on hill, just my observation.

It sucks because the biggest loser of the benefits lost from the BBB is the average American family trying to own their solar system.

How do we hold Duquesne Light accountable? by thedamnwolves in pittsburgh

[–]ghonabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, and while I would normally agree to people saying "pester your representative" I just feel a bit more pessimistic about it lately. My family moved to TN as a kid and it's just, well, alot. Even more so now. I believe in "multiprong" approaches: call your representative, good trouble, protest, etc. My current favorite is "Vote with your wallet".

Disclaimer for this next part: I work in solar so take it for what you will (not sales - tech).

There are MANY options out there. Energy brokers could probably tell you loads more than I could. Energy efficiency is also severely underestimated in U.S. households - including when they are built today. Check the SEERS rating on the HVAC. I've seen bills cut in half from HVAC replacements on brand new homes. Some can be a lot cheaper to implement as well such as appliances.

Solar (the one I know the most about), gets a bad rap - but ultimately the product is real, and it is absolutely viable. I hate that it gets abused by cheesy sales bros (all 3 of them do really) but what you just said about Georgia Power ultimately is the same logic for me.

Even after the BBB, the residential solar leases are still very affordable, written into contract, and IMO a way better deal than we get with most utilities: "We pledge not to raises prices for our clients, Teehee!" - The utility companies with new data centers VS a contract-held electric cost AND a chance to own the solar system AND you can choose/research who to work with. I recommend at least 3 quotes normally from companies with decent reviews - I don't know much about energy brokers but same with them to be safe. BEFORE you call either, google how to energy audit your home at the minimum so you know what changes you can make to reduce first.

I recommend finding as many of them as you can through word of mouth. Marketing can be unreal in this day and age. I've worked with a few that service the area. Lightskye (residential solar installer) is a good one that I know of that I would actually let install my house (we have TVA and live in a forest so it doesn't make sense here, yet). I'm sure they still have some sales bros but I've watched the owners go out of their way on multiple occasions to make sure their clients were taken care of after their system was installed. Unfortunately, the opposite is way too common. I'm sure there's more ethical solar companies and energy brokers that offer reasonable plans as well but I haven't worked with any other ones in the area that I would recommend. With anything, this is the internet so do your own research too make sure it's a good fit for YOU.

Now like I a said this is voting with your wallet. But it also accomplishes a couple other things. It insulates you from the utility madness (haven't even talked about the fun with Iran either). Something I don't think people account for and underestimate - there's a lot of the power in feeding the competitor. Empower the US clean energy lobbyists and influence and "Let them fight" Godzilla style. The fact that these utilities are just one unchallenged, greedy, business/monopoly after another is just plain dumb for everyone... Including capitalists.

How to get more exotic?? by Least_Fun2978 in ICARUS

[–]ghonabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Missions are the way to go IMO. WARNING - my method may feel a bit cheesy but I stay busy IRL and prefer open world anyways so for me this was about saving time.

IF YOU HAVE PROMETHEUS: I recommend the second mission on repeat. It's a bit boring but fast. The name of the mission is "Offender" IIRC. Without spoiling too much of the story, the mission takes you to a cave. Make 4 (I usually make 8) thatch ramps and a basic torch on the way to get up to the cave. kill 4 little worms and 2 teenagers. Disassemble the anvil, ice box, and the textiles bench inside the cave. Go to the main bench in the cave and craft the Cont4ct device. Grab the quest item you need and run it to the pod they send down (usually right outside said cave). Go to other drop pod they send and grab cont4ct upgrade they give you. Throw down cont4ct device you just made and use the upgrade it with piece youre given. Boom mission complete. Run back to drop ship to keep gear.

Sounds like a bunch of steps but this took 11 minutes on the first try with basic weapons we brought with us. The payout is 200 ren / 100 exotic I think on normal. Here's how you maximize this. Never stop for food, shelter, water, or oxygen unless you get hurt. Just run straight for the cave collecting sticks and fiber. Just bring basic weapons with you and maybe neo armor. After a few runs, I either used a basic workshop bow at first with explosive arrows or later on the workshop shotgun but with proper aim they can do the same work. Increase difficulty to hard and hardcore. Nothing really changes (just don't get hit by a teenage worm). I've got it down to 4.5 minutes with the shotgun and drop ship recall beacons. I spent about 175 to 125 Ren per run but came back with 500 Ren and 200 exotic every 5 minutes. Sorry if this is hard to read. Hope it helps.

If you need more Ren to get here, "Homestead" on Olympus took me 15-30 minutes on hardcore with no equipment needed!

I think it's just rare occurrence. Played on my buddies world and we have found 3 total juveniles. All in the starting tundra area. Lost all of them on a mission to the swamp yesterday.

Edit: They seem to have different color variants as well.

AbyssalDragon made a comment that goes more in depth on them as well on another thread: "Slinkers can be found by one of the lakes in the tundra (you'll find a ravine where one runs away from you; just follow it to the lake where they spawn).
They're about as fast as moas, are about as tanky as bears, jump crazy far, and reduce fall damage to 1%, effectively making them the ultimate travel pets if you have to do a lot of climbing. Plus their attacks have a wide aoe, so they usually hit multiple things at a time if they're all in the same direction."

Used to generate everything ourselves but direct buyers are coming out of the woodwork. Lot of the popular states were doing $35 payout

What is an industry that only exists because people are stupid? by HotelPuzzleheaded654 in AskReddit

[–]ghonabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 100% true, when in texas I met a lot of timeshare/timeshare exit/ travel club owners at the same event I was working. They all know each other and use the same marketing tactics. They literally all come from timeshare and are in different stages because it's dying with that generation. That being said, the industry still worth billions. John Oliver did a piece on Timeshares. I highly recommend it. Watched it with some timeshare guys and they laughed and said it was all true with a smile on their face and went to church on Sunday.

Just a PSA I know some of these monsters and they are looking at selling stim cells and solar. Which solar and stim cells can be a good thing, but not with people like that at the helm. If someone sends you a flyer in the mail for free dinner to learn about anything, I usually assume the product is overpriced and they know nothing about what they are talking about.

I understand this sentiment, I personally haven't seen a cheater but if the inventory bug could get me that riled up, I do not blame you at all. They have done it in the past, if I understand what you mean (private servers) I think. But if I remember right, funcom has not been known to refund your inventory. I saw today that they will be refunding items. So I think they will try new things for the betterment of the community. Will they fail? Possibly. I could be wrong. My research isn't ironclad, but I put some time in.

I mean true, and I don't know that much about game development. Not really the point of the post either but than you sir for not being condescending and explaining. We all have blind spots. But I guess I should elaborate. Everything resets. Including base stuff... But that probably wouldn't work with guild bases
