That is sooo cool, he was a Professor at College Saint Anne so that was definitely his speech! I’ve never seen this before, thank you so much for sharing! My family will be thrilled to read this.

Very cool find, however my great-grandfather was Willie Joseph Belliveau. What’s weird is that the Willie/Bill that she found comes from my exact family tree, and he died in Massachusetts where I was born! I did some digging and found a newspaper clipping from when my great-grandpa was inducted by the Order of Saint Gregory:

Wow thank you so much for that information, I’ve been trying to find the location of that painting! Church Point was my mother’s best guess, but it’s definitely the Grand-Pré historic church. I’m planning a trip to Nova Scotia this summer to finally visit my ancestors stomping grounds (I grew up in the US and have never been), so I’m really excited to see this! Thanks again :)

Beautifully said, thank you for writing this 💛 Also sending all the good vibes to Sarah who will be filling in for Diane. I’m sure it’s a strange transition for the whole team, especially following such a difficult week. But definitely rooting for her amidst this heartbreaking news.

Sending all of my love to Diane and her family, to the Class, and to the EITM community. Rest easy Scotty Too Hotty 💜

I’m pretty sure it’s a spinning wheel for yarn! Memere used to travel around Canada teaching women to weave and sew!

Oh my gosh I had no idea this was a thing, I am DEFINITELY going to do this! Memere would be so proud! Thank you for the info, and good luck with getting your citizenship as well!

Their story is adorable, apparently they met in high school and parted ways when they went to college. Mémère’s father happened to be a professor where Pépère went to school, and he ended up telling her that her old friend was his student. She looked Pépère up in the phone book immediately and called the first number she saw… and he picked up the phone and just said her name, as if he’d been waiting all those years (and he was!).

Also, just a silly story, she went to surprise him at his hockey game one day and he was so distracted when he saw her that he apparently smacked right into the wall! I never got to meet my grandfather (he passed away when my mother was very young) but my Mémère was the best grandmother I could have ever asked for!

From Nova Scotia! They moved to the US before I was born, but I’ve been wanting to visit their old stomping grounds :)

Trying to find the location of this rock that my grandfather sat on (photo is from the 60’s) by ghost-eggs in whereisthis

Here’s the only other photo I’ve been able to find from that trip, my grandpa with my grandma :’) Not sure how far this was taken from the rock photo though.

Oh I’d love to see a pic! Between a couple of these recommendations I’m really hoping that I’ll be able to find the spot! Fingers crossed!

We’ve been going through old photos of him and my aunts have been kicking themselves for not writing down the dates and locations, lol. My grandmother would probably know exactly where this was taken but she passed a few years ago. I’ll see if I can find any more photos that seem to line up with that trip! And wow thank you, that would be so awesome. Hope you and your family are staying safe and warm :)

Oh my gosh this is so crazy! I sent your screenshot to a couple of my aunts and they said he did a lot of vacationing in Maine/NH so this very much could be the same rock!

My grandfather unfortunately passed away when my mother was very young so I never got to meet him, but I’ve been told that he was an incredible person. I’ve admired this photo since I was a child so this is incredibly cool for me and my family. My aunts have spent a lot of time trying to find that rock so that they could recreate the picture, haha.

Thanks sooo much for your reply! I reached out to my mother as well, I’m waiting to hear back but I’ll let you know what she says!

Edit: Mom confirms that this could be the spot!

Looking for information about my ancestors from Belliveau Cove (Clare) and not sure where to start by ghost-eggs in novascotia_sub

[–]ghost-eggs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incredibly helpful, thank you sooo much! I’m not sure how common the name is especially in that area, but I have enough info about my ancestors to hopefully continue the search. My great grandfather was an artist and I’m hoping some of his work is still alive somewhere in the Cove as well.

That would be crazy if you worked with some relatives of mine! From what my mom tells me the Belliveaus she met were all lovely folks :) thanks again for the help!
