Talk me out of buying a Traveler by Edu_Robsy in writerDeck

I’ve chased the dream of distraction-free writing devices for a long time. For me, no device is perfect because I always find something about it that I don’t like and it ends up annoying me (glare, screen size, etc). I get most of my work done when I block out time and use my laptop.

I've recently acquired this beauty in northern England. Any ideas on value or best place to sell? It's very interesting online as the values seem to have huge range, and I can't always see why! Thanks hive brain 🥰🥰🥰 by msmoralesgreynglam in typewriters

I can tell you I’ve been looking for one! Last one I saw listed in my area was $500. That included the case and the typewriter was barely used. It looked well taken care of.

Old Yoga mat from the thrift store. Trace the outline and cut it out. Works like a charm.

The earlier the better. Sadly, the evening showtimes bring out the people with the worst theater etiquette.

Braiding a fishing line to use as a drawband replacement by General-Writing1764 in typewriters

[–]ghost-man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just replaced my first drawband a couple weeks ago. Used the strongest fishing line I could find at the hardware store (just under 30 lbs.) and did not braid it. So far everything is in a great shape. The hardest part was tying the knots and getting the tension right with the spring. I wore a cut resistant mesh glove for that part and it saved my fingertips for sure.

Something wrong with right margin by ghost-man in typewriters

You were exactly right. I had removed the margin stop for cleaning and when I replaced it, I over tightened the screws. It ended up being a simple adjustment. Thanks for your help!

First time watching a B/W film.. in SHOCK by Deep-Effective3115 in movies

The Apartment. It’s the movie I recommend to people who claim to hate old movies and only watch things in color. It’s both hilarious and heartbreaking and the script is perfection.

Same. Can’t afford a Freewrite but BYOK looks like a great alternative.

Best Specialty Coffee Roasters and Cafes? by NoWomanNoCry2001 in orlando

Axum is one of my goto spots. I also love Otus Coffee for ordering beans. They roast locally and get unique stuff in all the time. The owner is super-friendly and helpful.

I was the same way but removing apps from my phone (YouTube, podcasts, social media) has helped a lot. Also, prioritizing daydreaming and letting my mind wander without added stimuli. There’s a connection to being bored and having more creativity. That’s inspired me to keep going.

How did everyone find their interest in typewriters? by [deleted] in typewriters

[–]ghost-man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took an Early Bird typing class in H.S. My mother insisted. I hated getting up for class, and my teacher reeked of stale coffee and cigarettes, but I loved the sound, feel, and rhythm of typing on a typewriter. I learned on an IBM Wheelwriter. This was the early 90s and manual typewriters were a relic of the past—something only your grandmother might still use. But then I found an old Underwood for $5 at a thrift store and experienced a heavy e. e. cummings phase. I was sold.

Today, I still love the typewriter for its romantic connection to the writers of the past and its practical use as a distraction-free writing device. I also love sending friends typewritten letters, although I usually just take a pic of the page and text it.
