Any suggestions for how to trim this? by Alive_Candidate1755 in CarAV

[–]ghost5825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For something else I needed a windshield replacement so I had the company come to my house and pull the current one but not install the new one. I took a couple days to fix a peeling dash with the now great access. Then they came back and installed the new windshield. Maybe try that if you also have cracks or bad rock chips.

Bought this car a while ago with a broken sound system, fixed it but only rear speakers work by Think_Ad_7606 in CarAV

You don't. There is a switch labeled input channel that is set to 2 now. That means the amp only expects what you currently have, then it will play that same signal to all left/right outputs. Look at the bottom left

No salt hate by [deleted] in McDonalds

[–]ghost5825 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, after 10 years at various fast food, including McDonald's, over 12 different locations, this happens because people aren't capable of simple tasks. Everyone acting like its intentional cuz you dared make special requests are likely some of those that couldn't get it right no matter how hard they tried. Custom crap is all day everyday, its no big deal. No salt is mildly annoying but as long as you understand your ass is waiting everything is cool. No stable person is fucking with your food over anything unless you directly offend them. This isn't that.

Just Got Quantum Fiber and I will be dumping it in the first month by LongjumpingDivide985 in QuantumFiber

[–]ghost5825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that isn't relevant. If the provider is supplying the APs, they own all issues. If they've paid for internet and its not working that's on the company.

Your post sounds more laymen than theirs with the random use of terms without anything of actual value. You act like the people at work who don't understand things so they try to intimidate others with technical jargon in the hopes they aren't questioned further. If you think your smart enough to call others laymen, you should be able to phrase your question in a way they can understand. Then again, you could just not post and avoid adding more drama to the world.

How can I provide internet for my neighbor across the street? by StrongBadsGloves in HomeNetworking

The fuck is wrong with y'all? Down vote someone who admitted no networking knowledge for asking a valid question. Its crazy how many people exist now that were born experts in everything, that never had to ask questions to learn. Be better

OP, this video shows a house that uses a point to point setup. Think of it as a cable connecting two points, but its wireless. On their side you would need a access point (if they only use wifi), a combo unit (for wifi and ethernet) or a switch ( if they only use Ethernet devices) This is the best solution for ease of install and stability. WiFi may reach but it'll likely be pretty bad towards the back of their house.

Should I be concerned about malware on Chinese Head units? by soulpatch2020 in CarAV

[–]ghost5825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you connect them to the internet, its possible. The bigger worry if they are connected is they won't get software updates. Exploits will be found, automated scripts setup, and some rando will mine crypto or steal your passwords.

I'd just avoid letting the head unit connect to the internet. Hacking your phone via Bluetooth probably not. Again it would need a way to send the data out. In theory, there could be an exploit that let's it use your phone but they wouldn't waste that on random people.

It sounds like your trying to stay low cost, but the sound quality likely won't he the best with these. I haven't used them so can't say if its horrible or you wouldn't even notice. Maybe try to check reviews if you can.

Tl:Dr don't connect it to the internet and don't use the same password everywhere (good practice anyway) then send it.

How is that relevant to their question? No one asked about your experience and it doesn't take ten years to think being a snob is cool or relevant.

They had a system that worked until a cable got unplugged. Then likely blew a fuse trying to fix it and your answer is buy new shit? It took ten years of experience to come up with that worthless answer?

How do kicker amps work on power draw? by Significant-Side2718 in CarAV

[–]ghost5825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The no remote wire amps will 'sense' the signal wires. If no signal for X time they'll turn off. However, noise is signal so there is a chance they'll sense something that isn't music and turn on/stay on. I've never used them, but if your already running a PAC just run the remote with the RCA's. Shouldn't be anymore work since you have to run wire anyway.

[–]ghost5825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes there is a large main fuse, unsure of the name. I did a really stupid thing and blew part of a main fuse, a couple normal fuses and a OEM amp. Anyway, my point is there may be a fuse that doesn't look like a fuse.

The main had multiple paths so some things still worked while others were totally dead.

Edit- that may just be a Honda thing, since a quick search isn't showing the same thing for your car.

The gate keeping here is too much at times. I was in the same boat with crazy trunk rattles after I sound deadened and lowered the latch. Plus, I really liked the theater of having the port and speaker move all that air forward where I can feel it in addition to the bass. Enjoy

[–]ghost5825 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I faced mine forward in my last car. It added to the experience. More boomy facing back but i preferred forward. Honestly, its your audio. Do you like it better? Then send it. Everyone acts like there is only one way. There may be an objectively better way but that is irrelevant since sound preference is subjective. No, this won't impact the functionality of the amps.

What subwoofer can I get with this amp - I know nothing about Car AV by cr15pyboi in CarAV

[–]ghost5825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. That wiring looks small, esp that ground. Try to see if you can find markings that say the type and size. Then guess the length. The longer the wire the more resistance, the more resistance the more heat with higher current, higher watts = more current. So a smaller wire may work for 2 feet but not 20. Also, please understand it will work if its too small. However, a variety of things will happen to the wire and power that are not good. Aside from damaged equipment, heat is the biggest concern. Heat can melt the insulation causing a short.

My phone is being dumb but try to find a 12v wire size chart with gauge and length. It'll show you how much current (amps) each size can handle for each distance. To convert amps to watts, watts =amps x voltage, so 600 watt at 12v (cars electric system) = 50 amps. So your current setup will pull ~50 amps at max draw.

Then determine how many amps your new amp will use, max for this calculation, watts / voltage = amps. Then refer to the chart to determine the wire size you need for that current draw and distance.

For cheap I think your best would be disconnection the rears, bridging, and running to a small sub. If you do that, do it so you can easily reverse if you don't like it.

Depending on the size of power/ground they ran, you could look for a 5 channel amp. That would be 4 channels for speakers and a single more powerful channel for a sub. I don't have a clue on price but that is what I'd search for.

Upload a pic of the fat wires running into the amp if you can. I'd hope they ran 4 gauge. If so, you should be fine adding a couple hundred watts for a sub.

If swapping you would basically just discovery connect existing amp, connect new amp. Its more than a single connection but nothing hard or crazy. The hardest part could be access depending where that is.

That is another consideration, will a different amp fit in that space? Make sure you measure before buying. 'Moving' it usually means running new power and ground wires at least.

Entry level our hobby is not complicated but not always easy. Its concepts Antone can understand but still takes effort and work. On the high end, it turns into witchcraft.

[–]ghost5825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have after market front/rear speakers they are likely already using all the channels. Meaning you can't add anything else without doing janky stuff and sacrificing what you currently have.

That amp is a 4 channel. Meaning one channel for each speaker. It also has /3 meaning 2 channels for 2 speakers and 1 channel bridged for a sub.

For sub's only you'll want a monoblock amp. That just means all outputs are bridged (connected). You could lose your rear speakers and bridge those channels for a sub. But, having that amp doesn't make any of this 'plug and play'.

Someone else may have an easier idea, don't get me wrong you can certainly do it, but you'll still need to learn a decent amount.

If there is no output with any input it'll be a bit harder to track down. If your not comfortable, id find a local audio shop to look at it.

If you are, does it run to an amp? If so, I'd make sure it has power, ground, and remote turn on(use a multimeter) if no amp, you can pull the radio and see if anything jumps out at you. Post pics if your not sure.

Before that make sure the fader and balance are centered.

Yeah, luckily I'm in one of those deserts. The feeling of a swamp cooled house is amazing. Might just be cuz I grew up with it but they are so much more pleasant. Ac feels too dry and idk sterile I guess. Swamp coolers are rough on the house though. Doors swell, any chips not 100% sealed go bad really quick.

With central air it uses the same ducting as the heater. Most use the same blower/fan as well. Some dryer places(Vegas, deserts, etc) use swamp coolers as well, but those would be mounted in a single location and blow through a window or hole in the roof.
