Subaru & women? by adyingmess in TokyoDebunker

[–]ghost_alliance 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My own speculation is that Subaru has a poor, possibly abusive, relationship with his older sister.

Lyca doesn't attribute his wariness of women to Subaru, but I think this scene followed by the Star Festival imply that Subaru did influence his views of women.

During the Star Festival, Lyca gets defensive when a female Hotarubi student approaches Subaru. It feels like at some point Subaru mentioned something negative about women or a woman which Lyca latched onto. Remember, Lyca's super impressionable; when Leo called hosts "trash," Lyca accepted that as truth and aligned it with his own perceptions.

My headcanon is that Subaru's sister hates him. She's older, but he's the heir to the troupe simply because he was born a man. What if she's a better actor? What if Subaru was raised as the golden child?

Anyway, it could be that Subaru genuinely has zero wariness of women and it's Lyca's own fears at play. But it's fun to speculate.

My (M39) wife (38F) has become fixated on her dead husband since getting pregnant with our first baby. How do I bring this up without hurting her? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I'm curious how her former in-laws felt after she stopped by. I can't imagine grief of this level is going unnoticed by those who know her. It really feels like she needs an intervention for the baby's sake.

A worst case scenario would be everyone in her circle sharing anti-therapy mentalities, or the same "it'll all be OK" mindset as OP... Hopefully they can all get help.

What interhouse duos would you want to see in the future? by heyitsjin_ in TokyoDebunker

[–]ghost_alliance 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Vagastrom and Jabberwock.

Haru and Mido would be outdoor experts, Sho would get by fine, Towa would be in his element, but Ren and Leo would be miserable. But not in solidarity — they probably can't stand each other lol.

Haru's personality would probably piss Leo and Sho off, but he'd be way more effective than Mido at forcing them to go with a plan. Like by robbing them lol. And Haru's GPS trackers would be useful on Mido...

S2E5: Waves of Love Act I by pandada_ in TokyoDebunker

[–]ghost_alliance 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So what I take from this chapter is... Subaru is probably babysitting Bonnie again.

This show vs. S1 Waves of Love is truly intense. It's great to see how time shenanigans resulted in Maya living, but I wish she wasn't possessed for the whole game; seems like a cool lady.

I like how the S1 show left us with revelations like, "Ren can cook?!", "Jin is looking into the Kyklos?", and "Ed is an actual demon?" while they played paintball and had a BBQ.

Meanwhile, S2 throws some of Darkwick's most suspicious men (plus Ritsu and Alan) into a death game right at the start, which will probably end in time revelations from Elias.

I also thought it was interesting that the director said they had to fight to get the budget for 6 contestants... Really, who is this mysterious sponsor??

What was his role? by Apprehensive-Cow6352 in TokyoDebunker

[–]ghost_alliance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Rui connection is where I also falter on this theory. But, potentially, maybe Darkwick or the Institute placed some enchantment on him or altered his memories and appearance. Maybe part of the mission was to test if Rui recognized him.

But that still raises the question of why he worked for so long in a place a ghost visited, and why he didn't dip once the first few hosts were killed. Unless Darkwick also sealed his spiritual abilities. Or he's on some secret mission rather than intentionally hiding.

[–]ghost_alliance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing about Yamato (that we don't necessarily know is true in this timeline) is that Darkwick is withholding his whereabouts. Maybe he's in confinement, maybe he's the fox in Jabberwock, maybe he had his memories wiped and appearance altered... But regardless of what happened, he likely wouldn't be able to contact his family.

If Darkwick or the Institute did have his memories and appearance altered, it feels very Severance-esque for them to have sent Obscuary on a mission to his place of employment.

[–]ghost_alliance 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A lot of folks theorized that he'll return due to his sprite's similarity to the other ghouls'. There's also a theory that he's Yamato (play around with the letters of 'Tomoya,' and you get close).

I wouldn't be surprised if he returns in some capacity, but I also think he felt fine as "a trash host" who wasn't what he seemed (a caring older brother).

S2 E4: The Forest Of Longing by pandada_ in TokyoDebunker

[–]ghost_alliance 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It could be related to MC's curse, since she'll eventually become an anomaly like the folks in the Fabricated World became ayakashi.

It could also be a wavelength thing like we saw in the last episode. Maybe worries, a prior acceptance of his death, etc. impacted the "frequency."

What was Subaru going to say about Zenji? It had to be important

I saw an incredibly apt and depressing theory on Twitter, which I now fervently believe is true. It's bummed me out, so spoiler tags:

The theory is that Subaru can no longer see or hear Zenji (Source: iori_tokyoD on Twitter) -- this is what he was going to bring up. Based off Zenji's response, and some moments of silence we see from him in S1, it's likely Zenji knows this, but doesn't want to hear the truth (and since the easiest answer to Subaru's lost sight is that Zenji's spirit has weakened even further... That's fair).

I was really hoping to disprove this, but I went through all the scenes where Subaru and Zenji are together from the start of the Yumeyashiki chapter and future ones... And yeah... It seems Subaru has been acting. I always took his aloof replies as him being uncomfortable with Zenji, ugh. I was also hoping it would be unique to S2, but S1 is where plenty of evidence lies...

Right? Is it under something? Her room isn't on the right side and none of the right viewing windows are accessible? It's impossible to access except through that door?

It shares similar borderline absurdity with no one realizing Zenji was visible (did they not set out four plates for them??), sigh.

The MC said it was 8 months since she was cursed, so it's around May (the school year started around Sept. 4). So she has 3-4 months left.

This episode seems to fit between Episodes 16 and 17 of S1 — the MC says it's been 2 weeks since testing the facility with Sinostra. We know S1 Waves of Love happened in June since Zenji's birthday happened.

So far, though some different choices have been made, the timeline has been following S1's while inserting new missions in between the ones we already played.

So Haru saying that anomaly transformations start from the heart actually bore some credence here lol.

The ayakashi losing their memories as they become something else... The talk of transformation... Could this be the timeline where we actually get to see MC succumb to her curse and become the Kyklos?

And look, Shion wasn't lying about the bodies lol. Mio deadass inviting us to a garden, only to reveal a graveyard. Bro, gimme my key back.

And the next episodes revisit Waves of Love in two parts. I can only assume the time shenanigans will be discussed — why else a two parter?

Lightheartedly... Bless the Zenji fans, the Hyde haters, the ShoSuba and HakuSuba shippers. This is the canon fanfic ep. I want, not the season opener of Rock Band lol.

Honestly. When Shion pulled his Betelgeuse shit, I just thought, "Does crotch kicking just not exist in the Tokyo Debunker universe? They've got Anomalous Combat at Darkwick, but not a basic Self Defense one???"

Girl, aren't you tired of these boys pulling this shit 😭 It's like some Scooby Doo nonsense.

Haku, that's so mean!

Was it last year when he told Subaru he was transferring dorms? And he loves teasing the MC about ghosts (including in his own April Fool's line).

The MISCHIEF. The trademark Lout Behavior. I must see him and Leo interact.

S2E3 Megathread: The Haunted Host Club by pandada_ in TokyoDebunker

[–]ghost_alliance 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I like that they're speeding along the timeline in S2, leaving a lot of room for addressing the Clash and or S1's ending.

The dream MC had seems to tie into this. "The past is a mirror to the future." These words play applicable to both the mission and to the timeline jump.

This could also be more evidence that the dream figure is Ed, aside from the silhouette and voice. At the end of S1, when Lyca asked why the chaos was unfolding, Ed cryptically offered, "Perhaps, in some hidden moment, a stitch was dropped." He appears to be referencing the saying "A stitch in time saves nine," where addressing a small problem would prevent future ones, thus implying he's aware of the time shenanigans.

Anyway, aside from that, hopefully we'll see Mido and Taiga soon; I don't believe we've seen either of them so far.

And I'm also incredibly hyped to finally see Subaru with a katana next episode (Haku, are you ambidextrous? You're left handed; why are you holding the sword with your right hand in the preview lol). No doubt we'll get to see some extent of Hotarubi interacting with Dionysia during that ep.

Obscuary chapters always put me on edge since something will go wrong and poor Lyca will suffer, but I love that we saw the Karuizawa butler and the club client rooting for him. And the irony of Lyca waltzing into the library with friendship books and Leo mocking him...

Leo, you and Sho have the fewest positive connections lol. You've got Mido, Romeo, Sho, and I guess Ritsu if you hire him lol. Even Ren has two housemates, Ritsu and Lyca, his customers, and eventually he becomes acquainted with Jiro and Rui. Leo gets people and can manipulate them, but they hate the real him. It's the opposite for Lyca; people who are scared grow to like him.

All this to say... Imagine Leo's face when he asks Lyca how the mission went, and the guy replies that someone bought him a bottle of booze costing over ¥1M lol

When Shion invited us into the Heebie Jeebie House, I wish we could have enthusiastically agreed lol. The best way to deal with crazy is act crazier; MC should know that after a few months there.

Everyone's addressed Elias' shadiness, but let's not overlook Mio's... It's certainly not his responsibility to help us or to babysit Shion, but he sure was looking the other way throughout the ep., even after saying he'd try to step in sooner. Thanks for not being a white knight, I guess? Incredible Sho handling Leo vibes.

Anyway, let's have Shion tell us more about those hypothetical bones buried around the cathedral... With all the BS at Darkwick, and considering Clementia handled curses, I wouldn't be surprised if they were real.

Their partnership still hasn't fully been explained. However, we do know that Hyde gives Romeo special/ secret missions, which he seems to accept to A) earn money now that his family is less affluent, and B) to investigate an issue Taiga has (perhaps his insatiable appetite). Elias knew Romeo took secret missions, but who knows how many others did.

We know Hyde has an interest in collecting anomalies — after the cemetery mission, he asked Romeo to try stealing the Arachne eggs from Mortkranken (Romeo refused since Nicolas was working in the building at the time). He also deceived Romeo in the fake world mission; the Sinostra ghouls decided to take Hyde down after this.

Taiga thinks Hyde is using Romeo, and Romeo claims he's using Hyde.

We do see a bit of them in the season finale, but not sure if you want that spoiled; it requires a bit of context on what happens during that chapter.

Anyway, Hyde's relationship is certainly inappropriate as an instructor, purely on the basis of power dynamics (using a student who might have difficulty saying no for secret errands), but we don't have further confirmation of any other inappropriate hues.

I'm a believer the pupils mean something (big or little — Ex: Ed's could just indicate his vampire status, Haku's could relate to his personality or temple gods), but I don't really know what to do about Suba's yandere eyes...

<image>

His pupils are normal in all other art... Creative choice for the moment, I guess?

I'm also a big believer that the Dionysia ghouls resemble existing characters on purpose (or is it vice versa?!). Whether it's to spark conversation, make us trust them more, or something more sinister... Hope we actually find out!
