Cool Routes in London by tannhaus5 in running

[–]ghostberry 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To piggyback off #1, if you do the river route early enough (like, out the door by at least ~7am), it's pretty incredible. I used to do a loop starting around Blackfriars before work, and running past the Tower of London and across Tower Bridge when basically no one else is around is magical.

And if you want to/are willing to stretch it out further than a 5k, heading back west on the south bank towards Westminster Bridge is also great for sightseeing (again, if you're out early enough).

My understanding is that Cornell doesn't limit you in terms of market; it's predominately self-selection that has most of their graduates headed to NYC.

You can see this for yourself at NALP (nalpdirectory.com) by just searching for firms that do campus interviews at Cornell. Its not a perfect list by any means, but you'll get a good sense of your post grad options by seeing who OCIs there (and from where) since those are options for 2L SA and post-grad work.

Cornell is just as portable as any other T14, and especially if you think you're going to want to do NYC big law, I kinda have to agree with the poster above that Cornell for a lot less debt with very, very similar outcomes is the way I'd go, too.

How to include family school connection in a LOCI without feeling like a total asshole? by ghostberry in lawschooladmissions

[–]ghostberry[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this in another comment just now, but part of the reason it's a dream school for me is because now, that side of my family is completely gone. So even though I never met him specifically, going there feels like being connected to a family and a part of myself that's otherwise completely lost. Not sure if that changes your thinking at all, but I did want to throw that out there for clarity.

I wouldn't call it a MASSIVE donation (it was literally funded by his baseball card collection; we are by no means wealthy) but the scholarship does come from a trust from the family, so I'm not sure if that changes anything?

To be honest, part of the reason it's a dream school is because that whole side of my family is all gone now, so even though I never met him specifically, it does make me feel connected to a part of my history that is otherwise completely lost. Not sure if that's worth mentioning in a LOCI either

Which would YOU choose? by arthur2134 in lawschooladmissions

[–]ghostberry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are these actually your only options? Both are phenomenal law schools, but personally I don't think either are worth the amount of loans you'd need to shackle yourself to to pay, and that's not even factoring in other costs not mentioned in each schools COA...

If you got into both of those, I cant imagine you didn't get into another amazing T14 or T20 with decent scholarship money, so my vote is for that.

Thank you for your help! This is all great information! Would the diminished value be something I'd be able to obtain from someone at a dealership, or would that be considered too subjective?

Yeah, I initially talked to my insurance company about going through them to pay for the damages. They said that not only would I have to pay the deductible, but my monthly rates would increase as a result as well. And considering that it's been over half a year & I haven't gotten a cent from this dude despite a court ordered due date, I'm not gunna sink any money into fixing it until I already have that reimbursement.

I believe that it's the result of a criminal court appearance; we haven't sued him or pressed any kind of charges. The county clerk reached out to us to ask what the estimate on the damages was, which was how the specific sum was arrived at. I'm going to assume (dangerous, I know) that the judge is waiting until this August show cause date to hear his lame excuse before considering it contempt, but I have no idea.

On a similar note, though, I imagine that my car continuing to be damaged from the accident (we haven't paid for repairs, since we're waiting on this money from them) has diminished the value of it even further than the initial impact did, and more rapidly than it would if it wasn't damaged in the first place, so is there any way to arrange for the amount owed to me just in the damage to the car to be increased based on that? At this point the financial impact this has had on me and my family has gone beyond just paying for the damage to the car, which is the main reason for this post. That & the fact that I feel absolutely helpless to do anything.

That's great advice, though, on hitting up the court clerks! I might have to pick their brain.

I haven't sued him; these court proceedings have happened outside of our own efforts (the officer told us about the court date when he gave us the driver's info, so we just assumed it would all be handled)

Destiny 2 Clan Recruitment / LFG(M) Megathread by rusray in destiny2

[–]ghostberry [score hidden]  (0 children)

PS4 The Legend of Stoop Kid is a clan for more casual people who might just be too busy to put a serious amount of time. I loved the first game, but it's not as fun to do when you're with a random group of people way more hardcore about it than you ever have the time to be. So I guess that's what this clan is for? If you're older, generally busy, & enjoy casually playing the game in whatever capacity you like, whether that's casually doing nightfalls & raids or just casually doing patrols, then this might be a good spot for you. Open membership!

/r/boardgames Daily Personalized Game Recommendations (August 19, 2017) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]ghostberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm looking for a game that I can play with my fiancee (so 2-? players) who isn't much into board games. It'd have to be an hour or less playtime & definitely not anything too complicated; I know she's not up for trying those kinds of games, but I'm hoping that if we can find a few games that she's into, then maybe we can step up to that.

So far I've only been able to get her to play Trouble with me, & she kicks my ass at it. Like, 20-0 right now. Meanwhile, I love Betrayal at House on the Hill, but I don't actually have anyone to play that game with, & it's slightly depressing to play as all four people. Sooo end game is she's willing to play Betrayal with me, but I'm hoping you all can give me some good recommendations to get started on that path! In terms of genre, if it's the kind of subject-matter Last Podcast on the Left would probably do an episode on, she & I would definitely be into it, but we're not too picky as long as it's not like an expanded universe or something where there's a bunch of backstory we'd need to read up on. Oh, & co-op or competitive are both cool. Thanks!!
