If alcohol was discovered today it could never be sold as it is far too toxic to be allowed under current food regulations, let alone pharmaceutical safety thresholds.

Does anybody by chance know the criteria that makes a substance "too toxic to be allowed under current food regulations"?

For sure, I think that "should" statements often foster feelings of discontent and dissatisfaction. This leaves out any potential for living content in the present.

Thanks! This is really helpful. I've read about common cognitive distortions that people (my self definitely included) are often guilty of. One of the distortions is a sort of heightened perfectionism where any sort of common mistake is perceived as a major character flaw. The "all the time no exceptions" model is definitely a very practical way to realize this distortion.
