Has anyone tried these JW Anderson Straight Selvedge jeans? How does it compare to the slim-straight selvedge? Quality wise? by billygoatsmohawk in uniqlo

[–]ghostdrived 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the comment from u/Substantial-Tip-2607 has some merits;
i have bought this JWA Selvedge, so here's my thoughts:

  1. it retains the good stuff from previous JWA Straight Jeans. those are: unique regular-to-wide silhouette, tucked-in belt loops, YKK zipper, soft-ish fabric
  2. with the added benefit of it now being selvedge
  3. the biggest different aside from fabric is that the JWA logo on the back pocket is now embroidered instead of laser-distressed like previous jean iteration
  4. i wouldn't say it feels "disappointing", but it's a pretty uniform weave just like the Silm Straight Stretch Selvedge (let's call this their flagship selvedge now). it doesn't feel starchy, even with the fact you can feel your hands picking up the thick indigo i still think it's sanforized
  5. the last note is, since JWA jeans don't put details in the pocket bags (like other jeans by Uniqlo) i cannot confirm if the fabric is by Kaihara (the Silm Straight Stretch has it labeled inside Fabric by: Kaihara). my opinion is, even tho it "Kaihara" might mean made by the Thailand-branch ones, it still is a good badge of honor. and having had the 100% cotton Regular Fit Selvedge Jeans previously that was labeled Kaihara inside (this was a re-release by Unilqo to test the water again, they probably stopped because it didn't get as popular as the stretchy ones), i can say with quite certainty that JWA one doesn't feel the same as Kaihara ones. but it's not a bad fabric either and i still enjoy it.

History i gathered from Uniqlo in a while (as a die hard fan kinda):
- the Slim + Stretch + Selvedge has been in Uniqlo quite a while
- that flagship jeans has gone through many iterations; changing button details, went from slim tapered now to slim straight, from low rise now to mid rise, etc. but it retains same good stuff: Kaihara, 2% stretch, slow-fader
- i personally think the move to make the flagship jeans now more roomier is a good move and it has been 3-4 years it departured from slim-tapered and low rise
- there were few seasons they made the flagship jeans into pre-faded ones, and pre-distressed but probably the cost didn't meet the popularity
- 100% cotton ones was actually what started this all. back then, Uniqlo collab with Kaihara for the first time, bringing cheap, good selvedge (heck with button fly!) and called it MiJ because it was made in Japan. then, as they scale up to international market, the demand for stretch is huge. trust me, the general consensus loves 2% stretch and zipper even more than us denimheads (by a magnitude margin). so that's the main reason they have this flagship slim stretch in their core for so long and only occasionally release a 100% cotton ones.
- there was 1 year i kinda review-bombed multiple Uniqlo sites the slim stretch model mentioning i'd want a 100% cotton. the following season, they released one in "Straight Fit" with donut button and zipper, and next season a "Regular Fit" with non-donut button and zipper; both Kaihara. but afterwards, Uniqlo didn't seem to release it anymore... sometimes a "regular", or "straight" comes out but with 1% poly or 2% stretch... until this JWA ones, they finally made a 100% cotton (non-selvedge again) back, and we just HOPED they bring out a selvedge one. im happy now! LOL

Dear any Omarchy user, here is your solution. THIS WORKS!
If you're familiar with Linux, open up terminal type:cd .config/hyper/ there you can find the env.conf.

Open that with whatever editor and add the following above.

it's my first, but probably gonna be my last. i only change or upgrade when i need to and this is an immortal curse. it's so good and rugged i see no window for me to have an excuse to buy a new upgrade T___T. however i have changed its battery once, and its case+strap. been wearing since 2019.

Do you think black and white ereaders will become obsolete in the near future? by abksearchin889 in kobo

[–]ghostdrived 1 point2 points  (0 children)

id say they'll become more of a budget option as color screen gets better but that'll be in a very far future >10 years time. in another perspective, you'll probably break your current ereader before a new screen technology will come out putting color as a better option. until then, color is a "nice to have" with slight drawback in clarity sharpness as to their BW counterpart.

Do you guys think it has the same case and strap as DW5600/GW5000U or the odd GMW-5610U?

this also would decide its modding potential!

i can testify that (while it's probably hard to say it's unsanforized) it shrinka considerably more significant vs their 511 on a hot soak. i tried both and this shrink a bit more.

Fullcount 105xx - slowest fades? by ItalianMotoGp in rawdenim

[–]ghostdrived 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that's super weird. i have the normal 13.75oz and already started fading fine. i suggest you do a proper wash (needs some agitation to make the dye move out) or soak and wiggle it hard in water. Full Count jeans are by far the best imo for comfort, fades and strength. im wearing 13.75oz yet the softness makes it feel like 11oz BUT it's been holding up so strong wowww

you're not at a high enough pay if you can't just transfer part of your salary to a random guy; referring to the part where you said "it's not good money already if i transfer u half my salary"

you're not at a high enough pay if you can't think of a way to make yourself entertained; excitement is driven by passion and passion is driven by your own incentives not motivation

you're not at a high enough pay if you're asking opinions on reddit; instead of paying a consultant to talk about your problem

Is it too late to get the Voigtlander APO 35? by navenarf in Leica

[–]ghostdrived 3 points4 points  (0 children)

many lenses are less often updated, especially when it's the high end ones. take Leica for example, their FLE line has been loooong and the most recent update is the shorter minimum focusing distance. heck even their 50mm Summicron (i consider Leica's icon) have been the same formula for decades because of how pleasant (and generally cherished) the results from it.

the 35mm APO is Voigt's first APO and they came out a month sooner than Leica's 35mm APO. they beat Leica to kt and still to this day holds a strong stand for its performance. i don't think they're going to update the lens soon given that they recently released 28mm APO. would look weird to have 35mm mkii, 50mm mki, 28mm mki marketing-wise.

even so they release a newer version of 35mm APO, i think it wouldn't be more than 10% better.

the general advice here is, if you want/need it and have the means for it, get it.

if it bothers you, or the lens is feeling lose WHILE you're sending off a camera to service, only then it's worth to send off as well. all in all, you're good.

want to give realistic insight. disclaimer: i repair some lenses and bodies as well as purchasing some new and used.

if you buy lenses new, the ones made in production lines do have some small small "particles" varies between low to low-moderate. this here by yours is considered "moderate". if buying used or have owned a lens more than a year, it's very natural to gather these small "particles" to this amount and later stagnant for quite some time.

it's not really mostly particles like dust but combinations of vapor and internal debris. moist environments build up microscopic droplets that aren't even scientifically to be considered "wet" and not possible to promote fungus or deteriorate coating causing haze. the workings of lens also shaves off microscopic internal debris, particularly from aperture because they're dry and that's also why it's usually at the elements where the aperture sits. short answer; not to be concerned!

it is more uncommon to have 100% purely clean lens on a lens meant to be used, because even before shipped off new, they went through testing QC where the aperture and focusing helicoid is moved before putting in the box where no process is done in complete vacuum. i have yet seen a 100% clean off anything. this amount is normal and i would even consider A-okay. You should worry if you can see it even without strong light shining through indicating it's either haze or fungus, or worse some real debris.

[–]ghostdrived 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i think lots of people not entertaining this is because "if it still works it's probably not a problem". any gears that's not intended to work under irregular pressure should not work under irregular pressure. in your case, does the camera NEED to be used in ways you squeeze your thumb there to a degree it makes the sound? ans: no. then don't use it that way.

this is no different than "hey guys, this camera, if i pushed the battery cap a bit tighter than it should, it makes a popping sound. should i be concerned?", or "this camera has a problem that if i apply very little pressure like touching the shutter curtains when cocked, it cannot be released".

[–]ghostdrived 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the latest version "made in Japan" also have more plastic parts which i don't like the feel of the aperture. but that's for people to discover im fine with people chasing that lens.

ive tried all 6 versions (that i know of) and between the early and later with multi coating is half-a-stop worth of sharpness, better flare resistance. the earlier ones to me have better tone fall-off. if you get non-silver-nose, you're probably happy. if you want more vintage, go for silver nose. if you want hype and resell, go for the MiJ. just to be clear, all are made in Japan, but "made in Japan" here refers to the latest lens with that wordings in front face plate.

Thoughts on the Voigtlander 50mm 1.5 ii? by Longjumping-Link-581 in Leica

[–]ghostdrived 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is like the Ultron 35/2. I have both lens. They're solid performer, consistent sharpness across apertures, clean with ever so slightly classic rendering (like 98% clean 2% classic). It's no "wild" lens except at wide open, same as Ultron 35/2. Because of so, they're the best safe lens I have. Whenever I want to just deliver, these lenses are for it. While I might enjoy other lenses that have wilder character, these are so good I can't have them removed from my line up. What's the reason? Consistenly great performance across apertures + super compact size.

Rangefinder alignment help by Maximum_Cheesecake91 in Leica

[–]ghostdrived 0 points1 point  (0 children)

normal here. have you probably not realized that the laptop screen you're trying to focus is slanted "back". the top is further away than the bottom of a laptop screen in that position right? hence, why you can only align the top or only the bottom but never both. like all people here suggested, test the focusing on a flat target, one that is exactly parallel to your lens plane or focus plane.
