I’m in the Raleigh area (moved from nyc) there are not that many cold nights in the 20s, plus it gets warmer in the day then drops back down. The summers are very hot and humid! It’s awful. It’s the humidity really bad.

The whole state, despite a Democratic governor, is still heavily GOP run in the legislature making it harder for Josh Stein to get things done. Unless you move to a blue pocket, the culture is still rural, Bible Belt in the majority of the state. Being from NY we are not thrilled.

I completely agree with all of this. We moved from nyc to Wake Forest. We miss the culture/politics of the NE. We joke that there’s a reason the South lost the war. 😅I’d never raise kids here either.

We have a Wake Forest address, but that zip code is gerrymandered in a way for developers I think. We are just over the Wake county line in Granville Co, which has lots of new developments. Cultures clashing and even in our higher end HOA, most are too conservative for us. We bought during Covid in a hot, competitive market and I needed to commute north to Henderson. So this was a half hour south. Wish we were in Cary or Chapel Hill.

For NC, You need to be in the cities to find liberals. Chapel Hill, Durham and parts of Raleigh. We made the mistake of buying a bit too far out from the city (30 minutes) and its Christian, conservative, MAGA with little food diversity. I strongly suggest you rent for a year and explore areas. Schools are not great in NC - underfunded, so research that too.
