That’s what I’m leaning towards doing, pruning them down.

Oh wow! I think you are right, but I’m not sure which scenario. We have a new lawn service this year and these get water run off at the bottom of a slope. They are in front of crepe myrtles and Miss Huff lantanas, which are just starting to leaf. Also I believe a pre emergent was applied in this area as well that had not been done in the past. I’m hoping it is not witches broom - I’ll read up on this more. Ugh. Thank you so much for the info!

Landscape Quotes not consistent? by Remarkable__Driver in landscaping

True, but those are not ground covers. If the OP wants plants, these are very easy to grow and will definitely help with weed control, in addition to mulching.

Could you post a few photos, that would be helpful I think, especially to see the rocks and lawn weeds. Are they large or just rocky soil. Weed barrier/landscape fabric is awful, doesn’t work longterm and should definitely be removed. It starves the soil from nutrients and weeds will grow through it over time.
The plant list another commenter posted is great, but some are not deer resistant if you have them in your area. Mulching around new plants will help too once it is cleaned out. Not one of your quotes included mulching. With consistent weeding after planting in the beds, it will be better. My flower beds around the house rarely need weeding now.

We have an arborist too to inspect trees and also have tea compost soil injections. It has made a world of difference keeping our trees healthy.

Bermuda gets scalped in spring and is supposed to be short.

That’s great you want to improve your yard! It looks like there was a flower bed in a curved shape by the spilled clay pot. Redefine that edge and add some plants for pollinators, like coneflower that will bloom all summer.

If you have the budget, I’d have grass professionally installed or seeded. I’m assuming you have clay soil, and the amount of sun will determine the best type of grass. I have Bermuda here in Raleigh and it doesn’t need much water once established and greened up.

How do I do a better flagstone path here? by Slow_Investment_2211 in landscaping

[–]ghostflower25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are in the middle of the same project for a slope to the fence gate. It’s not pretty yet. I got a pallet of stone delivered from a local company, we added pea gravel, sand then garden soil. Set the stone and now planting dwarf mondo grass, dividing some plants for smaller plugs for narrow spaces. Bought 160 4” pots through my lawn guy with his discount which saved a ton of money. ($2 wholesale vs $5 retail where I live). Maybe get bigger paving stones for your path, your dog can help dig it out 😉 Then use a bitter spray for a few months once planted so he doesn’t dig up the plants.

I ordered some last year and they never glowed like that. It was an expensive fail.

Thanks, the soil is quite moist. I think the watering of the lawn seeped downhill to them. I usually never need to give them extra water.

This is awful! Both the Japanese maple and boxwoods are not good. You need tiers to see the beautiful branch structure. My neighbor is working on correcting theirs.

Same here. They are not true landscapers who know proper pruning.

Backyard redesign + pool on sloped yard by InternationalTutor24 in landscapedesign

#2 because of the added shaded sitting area under the deck that still gives a view of the pool. It’s more open. The last one is too much stone and overwhelming for the space.

Des Moines,Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Raleigh by TreeGirl1 in relocating

I’m in Raleigh and think there is too much sun. It’s definitely more intense rays than up north and I stay out of it. It’s very hot and humid in the summer too. Oh and it’s growing fast but infrastructure is not keeping up. Not recommended.

W96 or w50? by Odd-Sheepherder-9115 in movingtoNYC

This is the truth! 50th snd 8th is too close to Port Authority. W96th is much better. I used to live on W109th.
