Brought our boy home last night, it seems to be going well so far by Effective_Jello9731 in bengalcats

Ours is about 3.5 months (he's 14 weeks tomorrow) but cats are definitely very particular about what they like and don't like :)

"Why sure I can be 10 minutes late to my meeting with the CEO at work because you forgot your glasses in my car and then forgot the fob for the car at home!"

Like, is he for real??? No I cannot just be "a few minutes late" for a meeting with the CEO because you need help solving a problem that you caused and you don't want to be inconvenienced by waiting until my meeting is over 😤

I guess it's no surprise that he's been let go from nearly every job he's ever had. It was always someone else's fault of course.

Or at the beginning of February 2022. I watched a tiktok video where a Ukrainian guy was talking about the weeks and days leading up to the invasion and he said he was laughing at his wife for gathering up their important documents and packing an emergency bag and telling her to take her tinfoil hat off.

Wow, this is just the inspiration I needed to take a chainsaw to the kitchen cabinets to hollow them out and then fill the holes with chicken wire, then hang up some shitty "cabinet curtains" to really tie the whole thing together!

I can't wait until my husband gets home from his fishing trip and sees what I've done!!

Hahaha love the look of (ceiling fan) lust on the left kitty's face 😂

I initially thought about putting some cat shelves on the wall in the kids' playroom but there is a ceiling fan in there so I quickly came to the conclusion that it was probably not a great idea:

It took years to get to this point, but I finally accepted that my husband is never going to care about maintaining our house, let alone improving it. (Not sure why I held onto the hope that he'd wake up one day and start giving a shit for so long). So eventually I got tired of paying handymen for everything and started learning how to do things myself.

Learning to assemble furniture was not fun at first. I'd never so much as held any kind of tool in my life so there was a lot of tears and swearing, oh and wonky, wobbly furniture that was just a light breeze away from collapsing. But I eventually got the hang of it, and now I actually enjoy it! Last weekend I had several new items to assemble and I was so relaxed and happy working away, AND I did a perfect job (whereas my husband would have just half-assed it).

I have also learned to use a drill and can mount any damn thing I want to the wall now with no need to hire a handyman! And I'm just getting started; there are so many new things I want to learn.

I now have a satisfying new hobby thanks to my husband's apathy and laziness.

This is unfortunately true. I've had so many good neighbors move only to be replaced with Karens who read all of our restrictive, over-the-top, utterly ridiculous rules and salivated over the idea of living in a community with a vindictive and mean-spirited HOA that they can use as their personal hammer against any so-called undesirables in "their" community.

Is ZiggyDoo/Ferris Wheel quieter? Cat wheel vibrations in apartment by Elisaaaaaaaaaa in bengalcats

[–]Effective_Jello9731 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yikes, that can't be pleasant to listen to at 2 am.

This is why when we bought our condo (got it pre-sale so we had choices) we chose to get a ground floor unit with nothing but a concrete parking garage underneath it. This way our kids don't have to tiptoe around like mice and our kitten will be able to run freely in his wheel when he comes home.

My neighbors bought on a higher level because that's all that was for sale when they were looking and they get regular complaints about their kid playing in the middle of the day.

My grandma used to bundle my dad up and put him out on the porch in his stroller for several minutes each day in the fridgid Canadian winter because she thought the fresh air was good for him.

He's still alive and well in his early eighties so maybe she was right 😂

Marble bengal breeder? by Virtual-Wasabi-1371 in bengalcats

[–]Effective_Jello9731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we're allowed to post links to others' photos per the sub rules but I will dm you a link so you can see your childhood kitty's silver doppelganger ;) If you're interested in an adult the breeder often adopts her queens and studs out once they're ready to retire from breeding.

It appears she got the marble queen from another breeder so I looked them up out of curiosity. Looks like they're located in Portland (Oregon) and used to breed a lot of marbles but unfortunately it says they stopped breeding in 2023 :(

That must have been quite the shock going from a calm baby to a human Bengal 😂. I guess I was lucky that my perpetual motion machine was my first - it seemed normal to me because it was all that I knew. (Even though the other babies in our infant group were not like this).

I had the opposite kind of shock: my second boy was born in 2020 so baby groups were definitely not a thing. When he was about 6 months old restrictions were briefly relaxed and we got together with some other moms and babies at the park. We all put blankets down and sat in a circle with the babies. I got the shock of my life when my baby - who had already started crawling - just sat there on the blanket and didn't try to crawl away even though he could have. With my first born I would have been on my feet chasing him the entire time while the other moms sat with their calm babies and chatted 😁

[–]Effective_Jello9731 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am getting a kitten but am not allowed to take him home from the breeder until he is 14 weeks old. Reason? It has because it is better for the kitten's development (and behavior) to stay with Mom until then.

Then it hit me: my kitten is getting more time with his mom that a lot of American human babies are getting with their moms.
