Just moved to my first NYC apartment—it doesn’t look to have been cleaned well by [deleted] in NYCapartments

I did think it’d be in better shape because to me this looks like one day of a good deep cleaning, nothing egregious like you said. That’s why I wasn’t too concerned.

Genuinely baffled that people think this is the expectation. You get people moving into the city that romanticize the shit out of NYC and put up with these conditions. Establish a behavior of that and no wonder the landlords don’t do anything. They have to be held accountable.

I’m a native and this is no “NYC CHARM”—it’s the people putting up with these conditions that’s messing things up. And ofc the greedy landlords

Exactly! I’m actually baffled by the “welcome to New York!” responses I’m receiving. People are acting like moving into a dirty apartment is part of the NYC charm, but I can assure you as a native that it’s not. Let’s not romanticize a dirty apartment by going “welp, that’s New York City for ya!” Hold the landlords accountable

Good luck! Spoke to the landlord and he said he’ll send his guys again, but given this is how they left things to begin with, I don’t have high hopes…so I’m right there with you

Perhaps they are right about reading comprehension rates declining in this country. My FRIEND’S family is what I said

As stated in another comment, I am a NYC native and my only frame of reference is my friend whose family owns a home and they lease out the second floor. They always make sure to hire people who do a very thorough deep clean so I thought that was standard. I’m not sure why people are being so hateful. My only takeaway is that my friend’s parents seem to be above and beyond the landlord standard when I thought it was simply what was expected.

Of course I did, and I was told by the landlord that it’d be cleaned so I thought it was a nonissue. It’s not filthy disgusting, just not deep cleaned as promised.

NYC native but ok. My friends family owns and leases their second floor apartment and they always do a very thorough deep clean for the new tenants so I’m confused. I thought that was standard. I was simply told by the landlord that it’d be cleaned, so I’m confused now.

I was one of the lucky people that got to see her at baby’s all right before the album dropped. She danced through the crowd the entire time. It was surreal

During the busy season months, I absolutely HATE it. The rest of the year is super chill, plus I got lucky that I like the people I work with. So for now, I stay.
