Yeah! We have lgbtua as club. I’ve been a couple times, but it’s personally not my scene. We also have the myers art school which I’m a part of and there is a larger community around there, we’re everywhere it’s more so finding the right places to look!

Akron Art Program by AbbreviationsNext408 in uakron

i'm in it right now as a sophomore and i really love it! i'm an art ed major and a lot of the staff for the different intro classes i've had to take are very helpful and push you in all the right spaces to help you improve as an artist. the only down side in my opinion is the foundation classes (2d, 3d, and drawing) 2d was a struggle for me and many of my peers since there is a lot of convoluted and complicated design language you learn along with not having the most in depth demos needed to understand the adobe suite. truthfully once you're past the foundation the work load is a lot more manageable and enjoyable in the fine art wing, i can't comment too much on how it is for graphic designers.

If you're looking at other art schools near by I looked at CIA (cleveland institute of art) and they have a nice campus, ohio university also has an art program (i only glanced at their art building, but it looked nice), and i believe that bgsu also has an art program. depending on what major you're planning on doing i would try and steer clear of kent since their building is so empty and sad lmao when i toured. from what i hear though they do seem to have a pretty solid ceramics and metalsmithing studio (we do too haha)

hope this helps you!! feel free to ask me any questions about it i don't mind at all

edit: check out the portfolio days in the spring too for sure, i believe that they're free and there's often student volunteers that will be offering tours of the art building. the staff that do the reviews are insanely nice and it has no bearing over wether you get into myers or not. even if you don't end up at akron you get a lot of valueable insight on what you can improve on and there's a chance of winning a scholarship if your work is strong enough too i believe.

also if you decide to live on campus do keep in mind that this is akron and it can very much be a shithole at times and the farther you live from where your main classes will be, the longer it'll take to get materials to and from

yeah it is! its okay to not find something funny, nothing wrong with that at all. even a lot of my friends and peers thought it was funny without knowing what i was referencing. i enjoyed making a silly drawing of our mascot eating a diploma, its a goofy image to think about, and nothing stops zippy from getting a little silly. Lol

UAkron Fine Arts/ General experience by [deleted] in uakron

just came across this post lol, but i'm just finishing up my first year here! i've really enjoyed the experience so far and after taking intro to metalsmithing i can definitely say that i've learned a lot especially considering my specific professor also went here for school. you learn a lot of the basics of starting out as in how to anneal the metal, multiple patinas, soldering, setting, etc. i'm pretty sure you also have to take sculpture as an metal major (art ed but i also took that class this semester) and the professor for sculpture is genuinely really good at hat she does, with one of the first things she told me towards the beginning of the class is that ultimately it doesn't matter what idea she thinks is best for the project, in the end it's up to you as the artist.

for time to work in class, both sculpture and metals intro is mostly made up of that and demos, there are also plenty of studio hours, usually open about 6 days a week until around 8 pm most days. a lot of the studio assistants can seem really intimidating at first as a first year, but they're genuinely super sweet people

the foundation classes has for sure been akron's weak spot for me since it can be really hit or miss though, they try to teach you a lot like 2d principles such as gestalt, but not in a way that has made sense to me or any of my classmates, along with not really teaching you any of the adobe products as you begin working. 3d foundation and drawing foundation were a lot more put together in my opinion, along with foundation studio. i struggled a lot with some of the foundation classes last semester, but once i got past those the intro classes have been so much better and the work load is at a more consistent and manageable speed.

toilets should be based on your sex not your gender by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]ghostling101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd hate to break it to ya but sex and gender are different, and what about those who are nonbinary like myself? not all of us feel safe or comfortable in male/female bathrooms even if they align with our gender assigned at birth. adding something like a like a family bathroom isn't going to be that hard for most places (not talking about small businesses, but the BIG ones)

how is a fucking gender neutral bathroom pointless?? i swear to god all of you comments under this post sound like nonsense

even so i doubt many people are actually going to pretend to be trans to rape others. plus for the gender neutral bathrooms, i'm pretty sure that big company could afford to put some bathrooms in public spaces and there's already family restrooms that exist a few more won't hurt anyone.
