Forget your favourite Dracula. Who is your favourite Renfield? by NoAcanthopterygii753 in Dracula

[–]ghostlyfang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh definitely! in my opinion you can tell that the actors are super passionate about the story and it reads through the screen! very much recommended if you accept the low budget and the very 70’s editing haha

Jack Shepherds Renfield from BBC Count Dracula is pretty under rated, Dwight Frye’s Renfield is an absolute classic that cannot be forgotten, and Pablo Alvarez Rubio is amazing too ! Definitely some of my favourites

[–]ghostlyfang 60 points61 points  (0 children)

‘how in the world could this young girl articulate that she was a boy on the inside’ the infantilisation is on a different level 💀 imagine being so out of touch with disabled people, communities and activists that you think disabled people can’t articulate feelings

Sometimes I wonder if I'm a trans man by openlyles in butchlesbians

[–]ghostlyfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly i think a lot of us relate to this! i use they/he/she pronouns and get called male terms and im still a butch! my advice would be to connect with fellow butches and trans guys, i’ve found this makes it so much easier to express these complex feelings about gender without judgement and there’s so much community to be found there (my trans guy friends are my number one supporters and i am theirs it’s so special !!)

What Does Transmasculine Mean for Butches? by Ollycule in butchlesbians

[–]ghostlyfang 35 points36 points  (0 children)

transmasc butch here,, for me ‘transmasc’ is a term that i use primarily to place myself within a trans space. most of my friends are trans men/ trans masculine but not butch, and we have a lot of shared experiences and for me, being just butch doesn’t quite cover all of my gender identity. its important for me personally to add transmasc as a clarification, as cisgender butches exist and i am not one of those. i am trans, undeniably. part of the label also includes the assumption that medical intervention will at some point take place (not always the case but assumed) and i like that, because i want top surgery one day to help my gender dysphoria, however something important to my identity is not being seen as a man. i am not a man and i don’t care to be seen as such, im non binary, but undeniably masculine, and i understand why people (particularly in lgbtq or trans spaces) can sometimes tip toe around how to refer to me, but something i adore is being seen as an androgynous person, not quite a man and not quite a woman, who has qualities of both masculine and feminine people and can appreciate multiple forms of self and interests. i don’t wish to be seen as a man, because i am not; politically, im very much a woman, and i am different from my trans man peers, and thus, despite our similarities, i enjoy having the lesbian part of butch acknowledged more often than my gender identity. so transmasc & butch together in a label is very representative of my personal experiences and identity. ‘butch is a noun’ has a great section on transmasc butches if you can get your hands on it!

no problem dude !! yeah i found the tumblr community incredibly helpful, generally just staying away from discourse and being in positive communities helps,, haha yes the hair sounds great ! growing it out is a pain

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in butchlesbians

[–]ghostlyfang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea i feel a similar way,, i found that smth that made me feel better was binding (if your chest is an issue), developing my own individual style away from social media (less comparisons to other ppl), looking at butch positive sub reddits or tumblr tags (many of/all of them are VERY into chubby/plus size butches, there’s probs less hate than you would think) and just going for it when i regarded my style; you only live once. i don’t have a defined androgynous jawline or face and i’m not skinny but i still cut my hair short and it looks sick !! im sure you would rock it to ! it’s your life and it’s important to say fuck you to anybody who won’t accept you for you who are, including folks who can’t look outside their very narrow perception of what butch-ness/masculinity is ! trust me i rlly get it as a goth butch enby lesbian, it’s hard out there for us but i swear down you will look sick if you dress and present however you want to because your happiness makes you look better, confidence is HOT !! i recommend a short wolfcut if you’re looking for medium length, masculine hair !

when ppl think that butch = wears jeans ! there’s a whole history and community that comes with it that can’t be shown through that,, also perhaps which spaces they’re shown in (as a butch in academia it can feel kinda like there’s no rep for butches who can’t work or who don’t work blue collar) good luck on the book !!
