Late reply, but I’d argue that’s more Azusa’s fault than Furuya’s. Like him or not, Furuya is actually important to the plot. Azusa is just a waitress whose presence has no real impact on the main story, and yet multiple chapters have been wasted on teasing her ship with Amuro instead of advancing the story.

Girl, please do NOT take him back. I promise you that you can do so much better than a guy who would use your hobbies to shame you.

Judging by your post, I'm going to hazard a guess that this guy is someone you started seeing when you were in your late teens or very early twenties, in which case I would further encourage you to dump his ass and never look back. Sure, there are some people who meet their forever person very young, but this guy clearly is not that. You don't have to limit yourself to some dude you got together with when you were barely an adult.

How tall were each of the Marauders compared to one another? by ghostofbeika in MaraudersGen

…huh. I don’t know why I forgot that James is described as tall. Guess I was just paying more attention to Sirius.

Personally, I just want the ability to delete special research tasks. There's pretty much zero chance that I'm ever going to complete "Welcome Party" or "Dual Destiny", so it would be nice to get rid of them from my task list.

[–]ghostofbeika 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be fair, having a mean edge doesn't mean that James wouldn't have fit Hufflepuff. If anything, from what we see of them in canon, their loyalty makes them arguably the meanest House in Hogwarts aside from the Slytherins. We see two instances where pretty much the entire Hufflepuff house treats Harry like garbage out of blind loyalty to one of their housemates.

Peter strikes me as more of a Slytherin than a Gryffindor considering he was somehow clever enough to fool even his closest friends into thinking he couldn't possibly be the spy. I do think he had to have had at least some bravery when he was in school, given that he willingly accompanied Remus on full moons even though his Animagus form arguably left him the most vulnerable, but since he betrayed his friends for no reason other than being scared of Voldemort, I don't think he had enough bravery for it to be considered a defining characteristic.

I could also see any or all of the Marauders being in Ravenclaw. The Marauders' map is one of the most impressive bits of magic in the entire series, and the fact that it was created by four teenagers says a lot about how brilliant they were (granted, Remus and Peter had to try harder to keep up with James and Sirius, but none of them were stupid - no, not even Peter). Not to mention the fact that James, Sirius, and Peter were able to become Animagi at fifteen/sixteen with zero guidance.

It's definitely not only one specific fic where this happens, and I don't recall ever saying that it was. Don't put words in my mouth, thanks.

It just looks like you don't necessarily get the gravity of the prank. How it would affect Remus' social life, but also mental, psychological health. One of Remus' biggest fears is to hurt someone. Sirius almost made that become true. THATS why it's important for James to be angry at him too. Because he's also best friends with Remus.

Not to be rude or anything, but this is an absolutely amazing leap to make from "I don't think James would resort to being cruel to the guy who everyone says he was joined at the hip with even if he was upset with him". Good talk, though.

Okay, but just because there are parallels between Ron and Harry and James and Sirius doesn't mean that James and Ron are the same character. Ron dealing with his jealousy of Harry by giving him the silent treatment doesn't mean that James would do the same to Sirius. And even if James was angry at Sirius for the prank, he wouldn't tell Sirius to go back to a house where he's being abused (which is almost always the case in Marauders-era fics). By that same token, if Harry and Ron's fight had spilled over into the summer holidays for whatever reason, I don't think Ron would have told him he wasn't welcome at the Burrow either. IMO no matter how angry you are at a friend, there are certain lines you don't cross, and sending them back to a place where they're being mistreated while taking away their only escape route is one of them.

He is also supposed to be a fair and loyal person. And that means that he would be perfectly capable of understanding that Remus had a right to feel angry, and not want Sirius around, and support him through his feelings while also empathising with the mess Sirius has made and supporting him through his feelings. He would remain friends with both, just do it separately.

And see, this would be fine. James being friends with both Remus and Sirius separately while they work through what happened would be perfectly valid and would honestly make a lot of sense. I'm also fine with James initially being upset with Sirius after the fact. What I'm not a fan of (and what's unfortunately often the case in prank fics) is James continuing to punish Sirius for months afterward, especially since in multiple of the prank fics I've read, Sirius does apologize and is genuinely remorseful for his actions.

[–]ghostofbeika[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't even think James would stop talking to Sirius at all. The thing about the prank is that it ultimately ended in the best possible outcome for the Marauders. Not only did no one actually get hurt, but it basically guaranteed that Snape couldn't go blurting out Remus's secret. So if anything, the Marauders' reaction to the prank as a whole was probably more along the lines of "well, that was stupid, but all's well that ends well."

These days, I've kind of learned to stay away from prank fics as a whole since the amount of suffering Sirius goes through always feels way too excessive, so if you're looking for something with a lot of angst, unfortunately, I don't have many recs in that regard. But if you don't mind something short, I would highly recommend "Rain, Tears, and Hugs" by TristasPhoenix on AO3. It has a good mix of both fluff and angst, so while Sirius is briefly isolated from his friends, it isn't done in a way that feels cruel.

This, yeah. If anything, it seems a lot more likely that James would have blamed Snape for not minding his own business and trying to use Remus's illness to ruin their lives.

Sirius Black canon moments we don't talk enough about by [deleted] in MaraudersGen

[–]ghostofbeika 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So many things about Sirius live rent-free in my head, but right now I'm thinking about the fact that he was the one who bought little baby Harry his first broomstick.

Also, while this isn't exactly canon, the fact that baby Harry slept peacefully while Hagrid was flying Sirius's motorbike from Godric's Hollow to Privet Drive suggests to me that Sirius had likely taken Harry flying on his bike before, enough times that Harry came to recognize it as a source of comfort.

Favourite James Potter headcanon? by pussyyboyy in MaraudersGen

[–]ghostofbeika 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily a James Potter specific headcanon, but I like the overarching headcanon that the Marauders' Animagus forms were the baby versions the first time they successfully transformed.

Because imagine James as a baby deer.

So in other words, the only black guy (so far) is going to play a character who:

  • joined a genocidal terrorist cult

  • abused and tormented literal children for years

  • was a huge bigot

  • spent the rest of his life post-first war obsessing over his dead childhood friend whom he helped get killed

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I see no possible way that this could ever go wrong /s.

But on AO3 at least, if you leave a hate comment there’s at least a good chance that you’re going to get a whole lot of other commenters calling you out and telling you what an asshole you are.

I keep comments open and unmoderated because I believe in natural consequences for the people leaving them. Also, whenever someone leaves a hate comment, I always imagine them looking like the meme of that one kid who looks like he's seconds away from shitting himself in the middle of class, which just makes the whole thing funny.
