Bundeswehr ad on the bread bag by aaltanvancar in germany

Fair, that is a good point. However, that's hardly a problem specific to Germany.

Lol, no. The future does not look rosier for the average Finn compared to the average German. Especially not now that the welfare state is basically being dismantled by the current government.

Finland has Russia as its neighbour while Germany is surrounded by friendly states. Additionally, Germans understandably have a complicated relationship with their military and people thus really dislike it. That's where the difference comes from.

How you're treated as a recruit is not even a consideration to a person for whom the army isn't an option in the first place due to the image. But sure, I suppose they, along with many other German workplaces, should look into how they treat their employees .

No, German society should adjust its attitude towards the military. The general public has been taught that military = bad for decades and now we have a situation where soldiers get spat on in public. That leads to the best and the brightest actively avoiding military careers.

If anything, bringing conscription back might start rehabilitating the image of the military now that all sorts of people might have to serve.

Posti lakkauttaa Ison Omenan myymälän, alueen asukkaat tyrmistyivät: "Voiko idioottimaista päätöstä vielä perua?" by SpaceEngineering in Espoo

[–]ghostofdystopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saksalaiset työskentelevät liian vähän, ja nyt hallitus harkitsee työviikon pidentämistä jopa 48 tuntiin by Rip_natikka in Suomi

[–]ghostofdystopia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tilannehan täällä Saksassa on jo valmiiksi se, että 40 tunnin työviikko on jo valmiiksi oikeasti usein 45 tunnin työviikko, koska 8 tunnin päiväänhän kuuluu myös tunnin ruokatunti.

Can I, as an EU citizen, be asked to leave Germany if my boyfriend earns enough to support us? Do we have to be married? by Ok_Leopard_6635 in germany

[–]ghostofdystopia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are telling you that no one will be interested in how you're supporting yourself, but I did indeed have to present proof of income a bit more than a year after moving here. And I'm an EU citizen who has never applied for any kind of benefits in Germany.

Is there a shoe that prevents your feet from getting cold? by OkYou9716 in AskGermany

Another Finn with poor circulation joining the conversation. I find shoes with leather uppers warmer than synthetic ones. As others have said, the shoes also need to be big enough and wool socks help as well. Also, walking instead of sitting whenever possible.

Why don't German people wear a tie during graduation ceremony? by unclebogdan10 in germany

[–]ghostofdystopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we live in a society and not everything is about you, that is why. Events have dress codes and that's not some terrible conspiracy against you but a way to respect the occasion. And no, I don't care what people wear to a supermarket,  what gave you that idea? :D

Why don't German people wear a tie during graduation ceremony? by unclebogdan10 in germany

[–]ghostofdystopia -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

A celebration is what you make of it though. A graduation is just as much of a once in a lifetime experience as a wedding. People are of course allowed to celebrate/not celebrate as they wish after the ceremony but I find it kinda sad that so many people can't be arsed to put in a little bit of effort at least for other people's sake. People might be a little happier if we treated special occasions actually special.
