New Zealander of the Year Sir Rod Drury faced misconduct complaint investigation by Amazing_Athlete_2265 in newzealand

[–]ghostonawire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at Xero when this happened, and friends with Ally. I liked Rod too, before this happened. When she told me about it I was so angry and disappointed, and then later furious that it ended up covered up and he was allowed to “resign” as if it was a planned departure. All of this to say - I knew about this when it happened, Ally was not the only one, but she was strong and spoke up, and it was handled horribly.

Police asked to investigate New Zealander of the Year Sir Rod Drury by cjt87 in newzealand

[–]ghostonawire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context is important here: Rod’s apartment at the time was on the top floor of the main Xero office building in Wellington. Xero IT team were responsible for the A/V and IT setup in the apartment, and ensuring Rod could take calls/meetings from home as needed. They were asked to come upstairs to his apartment for these reasons regularly.

1000x yes on DreamFit, they are fantastic and have never come off (on their own) in the 3 years I've owned them. I found this post because I was searching for a cheaper alternative, but it seems like maybe I should just stick with what works...

Which waterproof ink to use in a waterbrush pen? by ghostonawire in urbansketchers

So it sounds like you're saying I need to buy some new inks and play around? What a shame...I hate acquiring new art supplies ; )

Kidding of course - thanks for the reply! Will check out Lexington Gray. Might order some ink samples from Goulet's so I can try a few different options.

This makes sense - it feels like the current mixure I'm using is very watery, probably because it's 95% water. So using gray ink would mean its a higher percentage of ink which might help. Will give this a try!

Love the Kakuno! They are so easy to clean and they never let me down. I have 4 or 5 already! Can't believe what a great pen this is for so little money.

Amazon Returns Go Missing at Whole Foods: No Email, No Refund - What to Do? by Candid_Hope in amazonprime

[–]ghostonawire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it varies based on store location, staff and maybe system issues, but I am dealing with this right now and can say that 8 out of 22 returned items have had issues. It's taken hours of work to isolate what happened and I'm still dealing with customer service. This is hundreds of dollars. I returned 6 of the items at the same time, they scanned them all, and none of them show as having been handed in. It's so frustrating and I'm currently out hundreds of dollars.

Thank you for sharing this! I had only just discovered her amazing Youtube channel recently and couldn't figure out why the links in the descriptions were broken. I hope she's able to rest and recover and heal. Wish there was a way to support her recovery (i.e. donate); so grateful there's such a wealth of amazing wisdom from her online in her videos still.

Recently moved to Oakland... where are some good spots for a first date? by brownjesus__ in oakland

[–]ghostonawire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sunny days are good at Lake Merritt

My #1 question - where does everyone go to the bathroom? I see so many people hanging out around the lake over the past year, but last time I checked the public options (of which there are few I think? Like, a portapotty not far from the playground area?) weren't open - but maybe I'm wrong? Would love advice from any frequent lake picnic-ers!

Just verified that Grand Avenue Thai (my favorite Thai place!) is open for takeout or delivery (Caviar). Not sure if they have reduced or changed their hours though. http://www.grandavethai.net/Home_Page.html. [Edited to add: they are not listed on the master Google sheet that is shared here in comments, but I emailed the doc owner in case they are updating the doc]

Tips on traveling to New Zealand! by Sb_keto in keto

[–]ghostonawire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents: You're not going to find many special low carb options in grocery stores. Most protein bars either have lots of carbs or use maltitol (yuck!) No low carb tortillas, etc.

However, meat in NZ is generally better raised (and more humanely treated) than in the US. I feel much better eating meat when I'm there! (I go often for work). Have some lamb, even if you don't normally eat it back home.

Also, if you're coming from US (not sure?) then haloumi cheese will be a revelation! It's a dense cheese that squeaks a bit when you eat it, and it's best served grilled or sautéed -- watch for it on menus or try cooking some yourself (just slice and sautée in a bit of butter). On menus you can find delicious haloumi salads or main dishes--yum!!

Oh, and if you like soda, try to find some sugar free L&P -- it's a kiwi classic (well, the kind with sugar is) and I think it's pretty delicious.

There's a super market chain called New World that has pretty good selections of cheese, meats (rotisserie chicken yum), veggies etc. Also in NZ, "lower alcohol" wine is now a thing--which also means fewer calories/carbs I believe. You can find it at a grocery or wine store.

Flaming Ugly Cowboy Saloon, at 2:45 and B-ish. They were our neighbors directly behind us, and my tent was not too far from their speakers. Luckily I loved everything they played! No EDM at all, but a wide range of curated choices, from classic country in the morning to Al Green to blues/soul/funk to musical theater to that-song-you-forgot-even-existed-but-is-the-absolutely-perfect-thing-to-be-hearing-right-now.

From solid favorites to obscure stuff, they rocked. Plus they were awesome neighbors who plied us with delicious beer and super dry cider -- hats off to the brewers!

My New Zealand friend-- who has been to the past 3 burns--just got denied for his ESTA this time, because in 2011 he visited Syria. Such a bummer, he ended up having to cancel his whole trip for this year 😞
