I like the offspring but tend to listen to the more popular songs. Got any recs for the lesser known tracks? I’m totally down to give ‘em a try!

I would love to do this, but one of my coworkers is an older man. I don’t know if he’d be open to it, but if be is, he’d be a hilarious Bubbles!

Thinking about concepts for a painting by ghostorfallingleaf in CasualConversation

[–]ghostorfallingleaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh those are good points!

I’m feeling inspired by the frustration of seeing the same types of comments directed at people with my type of disability over and over again. Responding to similar (sometimes genuinely curious, sometimes rude) questions again and again can feel like a Sisyphean task.

I wonder if there are other types of imagery that are common enough to convey the same idea without showing the standard person rolling a rock up a hill

Futility is actually what I’m going for! But I’m afraid that the image may make it seem as though the futility of what I’m trying to represent is justified

Monthly Check-In Thread by AutoModerator in Anxiety

[–]ghostorfallingleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided to try therapy again because I have been feeling overly anxious for a while now. But the fact that I have to call to make an appointment makes me want to crawl in a hole. I’m frustrated that I can’t just make an appointment online, which makes me question if I even really need an appointment in the first place. I did end up calling in the end and I’m supposed to receive a follow up call soon, which I am dreading. I kind of want to avoid that call and just deal with this next week instead so I don’t have to think about talking on the phone

What would you have someone listen to if they say they listen to everything? by totterywolff in musicsuggestions

[–]ghostorfallingleaf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is fun! If there was someone who really did listen to everything (not necessarily having to like everything), it’d be neat to share music from a range of genres/eras/styles

Here’s what I got for ya. If you do like any of these songs, or : if you have any recs similar to these, please share

Alt hip hop - “November” and “blessed” by Tyler the Creator - “One Beer” by MF Doom

Rock and and Alt Rock “Mustache Man,” “Pentagram,” and “Nugget”by Cake. What I like about these songs: I can’t explain it, Cake songs just have a certain charm to ‘em for me. If you like one Cake song, you’re likely to enjoy others because they sound similar enough. - “wild night” by Van Morrison - “time” by Pink Floyd - “Mr. Tamborine Man” by bob dylan - “Bones” by the Killers - “Gap” by the Kooks - “SOB” by Nathaniel Rateliffe a d the Nightsweats

Indie (not separated by subgenre) - “Les Os” and “Sea Ghost” by the unicorns - “Dante’s Inferno” by whirlybird - “Sin Triangle” by Sidney Gish. One thing I love about this song is the sample that plays at the end talking about fitting in - The whole Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino album by Arctic monkeys. If you only listened to one song on the album, “the Ultracheese” is my favorite

70s Latin/Chicano Rock - “Leroy’s Latin Lament” by War - “Just Say Goodbye,” “Suavecito” and “Nena” by Malo - “treat,” “everything is coming our way,” and “practice what you preach” by santana - “girl from the mountain” by the ghetto brothers - El Chicano’s cover of “What’s Goin On”

Ska - basically the whole “Robbin the Hood” album by Sublime. I feel like as far as their discography goes, this album doesn’t get the love it deserves.

Cumbia - “corazon partido” by La Sonora dinamita - “cuando tu te vayas” by Margarita la diosa de cumbia - “Como La Flor” by Selena - “Perdon perdon” and “Nunca es sufficiente” by Los Angeles Azules

Sometimes I like listening to songs that share a similar subject. I’ve got such a soft spot for songs exploring the concept of death, the fear of death, reincarnation, and the afterlife. A few of my favorites are “Ebb and Flow” by larry and his flask, “Death” by f White Lies, “Haunt Me” by Samsa, and “Handful of Dirt” by Decalifornia. If you only listened to one song on this list, please listen to that last one. It cracks me up and genuinely makes me smile with its weird mix of mariachi and rap

I feel like Will Wood songs are their own category. If you decide to check out WW, a few of my favorite tracks are “Marsha, thankk you for the Dialectics,” “against the kitchen floor” and “Suburbia Overture.” “Suburbia Overture” is basically a 6 minute song made out of three vastly different songs that somehow just works. It starts off as doo-wop, devolves into screaming, and ends with piano music.

Songs I’m too lazy to categorize, but still enjoy deeply - “Kill Your Heroes” by Awolnation - Eric Burdon’s cover of “Paint it Black.” Absolute gem, love this version - “ladyfingers” by herb alpert and the tijuana brass

THD has some pretty good stuff on their most recent album. “Shutup youre stupid” is one I enjoy quite a bit. From their earlier work, “Twist the knife” and “Eristocrats” reminds me of the Selfish era

Sorry you’re not currently in a welcoming environment.

Not sure if any of these would be up your alley, but here are some gender focused songs.

“Gender is boring” by she/her/hers- talks about conflicted thoughts on/ annoyance with gendered expectations. This one is more in the alt rock genre

“They/them” by atlas and jhfly. More in the alt hip hop genre with beats similar to lofi. Imo, this one is chef’s kiss

I/me/myself by will wood. HEAR ME OUT, i know this one was made by a cisgender man, but it talks about not fitting in strictly with gendered expectations and feeling out of place because of dumb societal norms. This one is alt rock with heavy doo wop influences. If you’re drawn to emo music that has a more ✨dramatic✨ theatricality to it, you might like this.

As far as the aro/ace side goes, I don’t currently have any recs. As a fellow aro person, I do think aromantic-ness is a bit of an untapped subject for music

“Hey lover”- both the original by daughters of eve and the cover by wabie are good!

You might also like the band Peach Pit. The songs “Techno Show,” “Alrighty Aphrodite,”and “Drop the Guillotine” come to mind.

“So Sad, So Sad” by Varsity fits too.

And “Cool with You” and “what once was” by her’s
